Azealia Banks Slams Gay Rights Organizations For Sensitivity To ‘Homophobic Slurs’

Published: Monday 18th Feb 2013 by Rashad

The snap above could not be more fitting for the succeeding story as the last month has seen New York-bred beauty Azealia Banks serve (and be served) a seemingly neverending platter of beef.

From newcomer Angel Haze to Perez Hilton and other highly documented showdowns, the ‘Van Vogue’ vixen has definitely dished a dollop of PR disasters that seem to grow in number weekly.

Now, after the backlash received from last week’s renewed tweet beef with Hilton, a recent interview saw Banks come to her own defense in a tirade aimed at gays rights organizations and sensitive readers.  Read the rapstress’s rant below:

On her use of the word f*ggot:

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

“It’s kinda bullshit, I feel it’s kinda like hypocritical”. “For some reason this word faggot is still so offensive, it’s just strange to see why. There are all kinds of people who are against the N-word in hip hop music, there are all kinds of people who are against hip hop music in general because they see it as a negative influence on African American culture, you know what i mean?

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

Why are all these other things like murder and sex and violence and all these other things accepted, but as soon as I call one gay white man a faggot, his feelings are more important… Freedom of speech, you know, and with freedom of speech comes the freedom to be offended, you know?”

On the gay community’s response to her use of the word:

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

“Fuck being a faggot, fuck being a nigger. Fuck being whatever,” she raged. “There are such bigger problems… and then you’ve got organisations like GLAAD [Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation], which are fucking complete bullshit.

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

“I mean let’s look at it, it’s gay and lesbian alliance against defamation, or whatever…. that’s what it stands for, right? I mean would you agree that homosexuals, and the homosexual community, have bigger problems than the word faggot, you know what I mean?”

On her bisexuality:

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

“Some people are Satanists, some people are Christians, some people are Jews, Buddhists, you know what I mean? Some people are still Nazis… there are some people who are still KKK members… Come on people, please. If you’re trying to call me a homophobe, you’re basically trying to imply that I’m insulting you for having sex with men. I have sex with men too – what the fuck?

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

“I have sex with men and women, do I have to take a picture of my licking a fucking pussy? What the fuck! It doesn’t make any sense. It’s so stupid. It’s so stupid and it’s so evil. And it’s just like this stupid fucking media shit, you know what I mean? It’s the media shit. And this is why I go about myself the way the way I go about myself, and I do whatever the fuck I want. If the media is going to build me up to tear me down, you motherfuckers are not going to tear me down.

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

“I just make these fucking raps, and I’m just gonna wear these outfits, and fucking live my life. I can’t deal with you motherfuckers, I don’t have time for this shit.”

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

On moving on:

Video In-Article Ad (Desktop)

“The fact that we’re even having this conversation means that it’s gone on too long. It’s just like, no. You know what I mean? Let’s talk about something else. This is just going to go in circles, you know what I mean? In 212, when I’m talking about licking pussy, and I’m like, outing the fag on 212, come on, let’s get over it. I mean end of fucking discussion. Next.”

    *Gives A round Of applause*

  4. CHUDDS February 18, 2013

This b**** is so annoying!!!!!!! Her album will flop simply because she’s made too many enemies.

  5. ShadeNoShade February 18, 2013

This Girl Has Been F****** Up From Left To Right Most Of Her Press Lately Has Been Negative And About Beef. She Has To Know That She’s An ARTIST, Learn How To Carry Yourself And Learn When To Pick And Choose Your Fights And Think About How She’s Saying Things Before She Says It. Yes She ABSOLUTELY Has The Right To Defend Herself. But Everything So Far Looks Bad On Her Part. #ShadeNOShade

  6. Vanity February 18, 2013

you guys make me love her even more. I love anyone that insults people like sam and patrick. you guys want a cookie for being fudge packers? Get over yourself you’re not immune to insults

  7. miss marvel February 18, 2013

Someone send this A** back to Africa :-\

  8. FentySoSnatched February 18, 2013

Real talk at the same person coming at Sam under different aliases, how are you criticising his opinion when he didn’t even give one in this thread. I can sit here and drag tgj all day long but the guys who work here and good writers and are nothing but nice to people even though they’re lil kim and rihanna are shade is low down and pathetic.

  9. AzealiaBankable February 18, 2013

B****** are so fake. Perez uses that word all the time. Oh, and f*** the homphobic commenters in here. WE ALL can tell you like the peen too.

  10. thetruth February 18, 2013

Now what record label is out here cosigning this? Not a good look. At all.

  11. KissingU February 18, 2013

Am i only the one who got mad at the dickhead who dissed Sam. I’ve grown to love him after using his threads kii kii.

  12. NOBITCHASSNESS February 18, 2013

She’s portraying herself in such a bad light it disappoints me as a fan.

She needs to stop everything she’s doing and focus on that pushed back album.

No more beefs. No more BS. Just music please Azealia, you are amazing at that!

  13. ƸӜƷ MC ƸӜƷ February 18, 2013

    Two things.

First: I applaud you for being honest about what you feel and not sucking up to anyone.

Second: At this rate, you are digging yourself the biggest grave their ever was. Shut that trap, just shut it. You talk so much b******* instead of focusing on your craft. At this point everyone is more infatuated with your personal life and beefs than they are with your music. Where is your single? Where is the information about the album?

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR. You once said you wanted to retire from rapping because it was “not lady-like”, well by the looks of it you don’t have another option.

I can’t at you being such a dumb b****. Another day, another Beyonce post, another Rihanna post, another tired shade, another Azealia beef. #getcholife

  14. Jay Jay February 18, 2013

Tbh the word “F*ggot” is not that bad it’s just a word. I don’t understand how some gays take it offensively when they say the words b****, c***, or n*gga etc.

Remember: it’s not what your called, it’s what you answer to.

  15. d February 18, 2013

f****** fool this girl is a dumb b**** i shall no longer support her music

  16. Monstarebel February 18, 2013

THE DUMBEST B**** R.I.P. TO THE CAREER YOU’LL NEVER SEE

  17. THE GREAAT LACEFRONCE. February 18, 2013

SHE’S RIGHT THESE SISSIES ARE WAY TO SENSITIVE NOWADAYS

JUST LIKE BLACKS CALLING EACH OUT N**** BUT GETTING OFFENDED WHEN OTHERS SAY N**** OR N*****

  18. My Forehead Tho February 18, 2013

    Somebody hand this b**** a chair -_-

If she only knew that she was fighting a battle that she will never win, whether she’s right or not, she wouldn’t be f****** up her career right now.

  19. PSA (FAF) February 18, 2013

she will be dropped if she keeps this up! bad enough her album’s been pushed back with no tentative single release date!

AS FAR AS “F*****”… U CAN USE IT BUT DONT BE UPSET WHEN PPL DRAG U & STOP PLAYING YOUR MUSIC! U ARE NOT A PERSON ON THE STREET! U ARE AN UP & COMING FEMALE MUSICIAN WHO MUST PROVE HERSELF WITHOUT ANY TOP TEN SINGLES OR EVEN AN ALBUM TO HER NAME!!!

Sam, do a post on her trying to DISS diplo AND CALLING HIM A SNAKE, SHE ALSO GOT INTO IT W/ THE CREATOR OF “HARLEM SHAKE” YESTERDAY! SHE IS A FLOP!

  20. Seriosly February 18, 2013

I can appreciate someone calling the media out on their bull but her explanation couldnt come off any more ignorant if she tried. She’s allowed them to back her in a corner and she wasnt ready. I highly doubt she’s homophobic. She went to the most know performing arts school in the country…She’s frustrasted and it doesnt mix well with her lack of media training. Save the rants for the studio. Once people take you seriosly as an artist no one will hold you accountable because it will be on wax and considered your craft. So until then shes better off shutting it unless she wants to p*** off the demo most likely to purchase her music.

  21. JEFFFFFF February 18, 2013

    She’s just sounds so ignorant.

Call me whatever, but I just cannot support an artists like her.

  22. L-Boz February 18, 2013

I hate when people say “you know what I mean” after each sentence.

  23. BeyFRAUD Armstrong (Beyonce’s Weave) February 18, 2013

I support her on her onslaught on Perez, he is an ugly disgusting fudge packer who is too old to get a boyfriend and takes it out on celebrities he wishes he was. However, even though she has my support on Perez, I’m not here for your music Azealia, I’m only here for Nicki Minaj. All the other rap flop b****** should fall in line because the Pink Print is coming and no one will be checking for their flop she ba ba mess. You have no choice but to deal.

  24. dstrock February 18, 2013

I just don’t think she’s very good at giving interviews, know what i mean? It’s like she’s doesn’t like know how to f****** speak professionally. You know what I mean?

Sidenote, the shade at how many downvotes FentySoSnatched’s comment got…I can’t.

  25. ladylady February 18, 2013

She obviously just likes to hear herself talk. But it is a shame that she just talks herself into a nonsense BS hole half the time. If anyone is taking her bait, shame on you.

  26. Shaquinisha-Rose February 18, 2013

Well, Freedom of speech is one thing. But there is no such thing as freedom from criticism. So deal with it MS. Banks. If you are going to dish out hate speech then expect at least someone to be hurt by it. SMH

  27. eric February 18, 2013

“Know what I mean?” No, I really don’t.

  28. LA LA February 18, 2013

YES! I love this Woman! These Gay H**/A*** F**! Community need to forever perish. They can’t even produce LMFAO!

  29. Tuhh February 19, 2013

Now was it freedom of speech when she was all up in arms about Iggy saying she’s a runaway S**** master?? I don’t condone that comment nor how Azealia tries to make her point but let’s call a spade a spade. You can’t be pro-freedom of speech when you’re called out on what you say but be all up in arms about others when they exercise that right. The same way Iggy’s comments were offensive to a group of people, in this case it easily be said about Azealia’s. she needs to stop using it if it’s going to offend her fans. simple. This girl’s career died before it even got started. Smfh such a shame because she’s talented.

  32. nick February 19, 2013

im gay & i agree wth her 100000%., i dont giv a dang wat u call me, i dont care wat u think, its all bs words.,..

  33. @taimiicel February 19, 2013

i like her music sometimes.. but

this is the girl that ya’ll think are gonna take my queens throne this girl cant even have a respectful interview that was such a boring read #grr

  34. the real xoxo February 19, 2013

Is she not allowed to have an opinion?

  35. xxx February 19, 2013

so, in her eyes i can call every black human a n***** from now on?

  36. MELODY2012 February 19, 2013

As long as people keep on lying to her about being talented she is going to continue with these beefs. She really thinks that she is a star, she is as famous as any youtube cover artist with million views. Her album will not be released in March, it will be pushed back again.

  37. MELODY2012 February 19, 2013

Her ugly attitude shows on the outside aswell

  38. Gary C February 19, 2013

industry people say she has talent. shame she talks a lot of crap.

  39. Mr. B February 19, 2013

A nasty attitude overshadows any talent you may have EVERY TIME! All this is to be controversial so people become aware of who she is. Me and many other are still NOT checkin’ for her…sorry boo!

  40. Tisha February 19, 2013

The thing to me is, I don’t agree with her using the word, I think her justification is b*******. But if you’re going to have a point be able to INTELLIGENTLY defend it.

She’s tossing all these words and anyone with half an education can see she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Acting like her being bisexual means she can’t be homophobic? What? Does she also think self-hating blacks don’t exist?

All I can say is she better embrace the gays, who else is gonna listen to that lame ass house music rap she puts out. Be real Ze, no one can understand half what you’re saying, slap a good beat on it and let the Queens work it out on the dancefloor.

  41. truth is February 19, 2013

i mean am i the only one who sees her point.

people get so bent out of shape over a word that they fail to realize that the emphasis put on the word is what makes it so bad smh

i know your parents have told you that if you feed into what someone says about you that they are only gonna keep saying it because they knows it will get to you, you’re giving people power over your feelings when you let a “word” put you down

Instead of trying to moderate others words, you should help kids and adults understand that words mean nothing. they don’t make or break you for its only a word…. she’s right no one’s exempt from insults, instead of trying to correct peoples wrongs help the ones affected to be stronger i’ve been called many names but i learned to ignore it and can barely remember any of it today

  42. truth is February 19, 2013

an insult is an insult no one is exempt from them… she’s right there’s more important things out there than worrying about someone being insulted, a white person can call me a n***** all they want, i wouldn’t like it but i’m not about to start a rally over it you give people power over you when you let a word get you so bent out of shape YOU CAN’T CHANGE PEOPLES FEELINGS, EVEN IF THEY DON’T CALL YOU OUT OF YOUR NAME THAT DOESN’T CHANGE WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT YOU… PEOPLE WILL ONLY GET TO YOU IF YOU LET THEM POINT BLANK PERIOD

  43. yeah… February 21, 2013

I guarantee that it would be a HUGE debate if a caucasion used the word “n*****” in a song. So why shouldn’t it be a big deal that she said f*****. No specific form of discrimination is greater than all others. Sexual orientation, race, gender…it doesn’t matter. It’s wrong POINT BLANK! She can go f*** herself! And did anyone else notice how many times she said “you know what I mean”?

  44. yeah… January 14, 2014

    Typical n*****….enough said
