Indeed, while her latest effort ‘New Life’ wasn’t as strong as 2009’s ‘Still Standing’, the ‘So Gone’ vocalist stands in the unique position of seeing all of her LPs receive critical acclaim, even when they are unable to do so commercially.
Now, as to ensure ‘Life‘s follow up surpasses her prior efforts, she has enlisted ‘Use Me’ singer Miguel to help craft the project, as seen in snaps released to fans today.

Monica needs to stop trying to be Anita Baker/Oleta Adams. Ever since she got clowned for going a little too far left with “Every Time the Beat Drop,” she’s been on this hardcore Urban-AC kick and it’s not doing anything for her. She was never a peppy poppy singer, but her hooks used to be stronger and more memorable. She’s only 32, but acts like she’s 50. She doesn’t need to be working with Miguel. And she needs to get back together with Dallas Austin and JD. What Kelly Rowland is doing is basically what Monica needs to do.
I disagree. I personally believe one should stay true to who they are. Like you, I never viewed Monica as Pop. She is one of the few artist who have stuck to their R&B roots. She may not be a commercial success anymore, but if you listen to her interviews she will basically tell you she doesn’t care. Her music reflects her life. Kelly Rowland on the other hand decided to take the “Heaux Route.” Don’t get me wrong. Kelly used to be my fav in DC, but once she realized that being innocent Kelly was getting her no where, she got a boob job, took off her clothes, and started singing about s**. Now I can’t stand her. Every song is about s** w/ her and I’m tired of it. Monica: Please stick to your guns. Poppers may not buy it, but you got a buyer in me.
I totally agree with you. That is why I love Monica. She stays true to her audience and that is what I love about her. She does not need to conform to whats in. That is why after all these years she is still in the game and people still call her and book stages. She not only rock out at Hip Hop concerts and performs with (T.I, Gezzy, etc, but also Jazz Festivals and R&B Concerts) Why? Because she can still SING LIVE! Go Monica!

She charts on other people’s songs but Monica first week was bigger than hers Brandys and more. I do feel Monica is so authentic that she will be fine. I think Monica should focus on something else other then singing because what if she gets sick then she might have to take a break because of her singing.
