Justin Timberlake Tops UK Album Chart / Out Sells Top 5…Combined

Published: Sunday 24th Mar 2013 by Sam

It official.

Justin Timberlake‘s blockbuster chart takeover is not only a US phenomenon.

The 20/20 Experience, the singer’s first album is seven years, has blazed its way right to the top of the Official UK Album Chart tonight with numbers that cement his international Pop royal status.

Details after the jump…

The set, which birthed British #1 ‘Mirrors’, was announced as occupier of the top spot tonight after selling through 106,000 copies – a figure which is more than the rest of the top five combined.

As previously reported, the 32-year-old  is gearing up to unleash a sequel to ’20/20′ later this year.

************

While congrats are certainly due for Justin, we say more homage should be paid to those promoting the project. For, not in a long while has there been a campaign for an artist of JT’s caliber as on-point as this. Indeed, questionable material aside, those spearheading the project’s push paired their pockets with their brains ultimately resulting in the success the LP is enjoying now. If only more teams could follow suit.

Justin Timberlake returns to the UK this Summer for a headlining stint at the Wireless Festival in July. US fans can catch the star on the Legends Of The Summer Tour with Jay-Z – which also kicks off in July.

  6. Holy Hive March 24, 2013

106k really?. Is the UK really dat small

    • BubblePopElectric March 24, 2013

Yeah. 106,000 is just shy of Gold status in the UK.

      • Matthew Charlery-Smith March 25, 2013

100k IS Gold status here in the UK. Higher figures than Gold in the rest of the Europe. To get platinum here is 300k though, and that’s a jump!

  7. Holy Hive March 24, 2013

People buy into hype = Adele JT&The IPhone

  8. Lydia March 24, 2013

    Anyways

  15. Theman March 24, 2013

His promo was strategic. He has a huge fan base that are loyal. Y’all need to stop with the Adele and Justin thing. A lot y’all don’t support real r&b anyway. His album is great. Be happy that another album is doing great. If his album didn’t perform the way it is, people would complain that his break was the main problem. He’s doing his thing.

  16. Lovebird March 24, 2013

    Congrats JT.

  17. the real xoxo March 24, 2013

The album is not overrated, it’s overexposed.

      • Mark111 March 24, 2013

It too was over hyped, remember the Ye Vs 50 battle. Well played marketing.

The white girl, Iggy Azalia WORK failed to chart in the UK, even though she is signed to a UK label. Azalia Banks debut single peaked at 12 and charted decently in EUROPE

  20. ZIGGY STARDUST March 24, 2013

I have to admit, Justin has one hell of a marketing team behind him! This is one of the best marketing teams I’ve seen in a very long time. Let’s not forget the man behind the music, Timbaland! He’s an excellent producer and has good chemistry with Justin. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right? I actually like the album. And, I like how all of the songs are clocking in close to 7 or 8 minutes long. It makes up for the fact that there are only 10 songs on the album. You don’t have many songs that do that nowadays.

  21. Mark111 March 24, 2013

Didn’t Rihanna do 300K in the first week of TTT? And Loud of it’s 5th week did 306K, so JT’s numbers can’t be all that good.

  22. IM A FREE B*TCH March 25, 2013

i found the album to be really draggy :/ but congrats to him anyway

  23. mezzy March 25, 2013

Sales is one thing, but critical acclaim is another. The music is alright but it’s not “out-of-this-world” or “groundreaking.
JT’s alright but I personally prefer Bruno Mars & his music.
