As anyone who’s been to a Rihanna show (that wasn’t cancelled) will agree, performing isn’t where her “wow” factor lies. Indeed, even her staunchest supporters will be the first to confirm that it’s her catalogue of hits that make her, for better or worse.
Therefore, it’s little surprise that her new ‘777’ tour documentary has been unceremoniously slammed by critics.
Set to air on Fox on May 6th, the fly on the wall special chronicles the 25-year-old’s 7 shows, in 7 cities, over 7 nights promo push for her hit album ‘Unapologetic’. The ‘Diamonds’ led set, which is her 7th LP, became her first chart-topping project in the US upon release last November.
And while the album’s success may relay a triumphant narrative, its accompanying docu-movie reportedly boasts little in replay value. Not a good look when the full 77 minute version of the hour-long special will be released on DVD a day later (May 7th).

Entertainment Weekly (Rating: D+)
Last November, Rihanna invited dozens of journalists on her 777 Tour, consisting of seven concerts in seven countries in seven days, via a 777 aircraft. Headlines during the extravaganza deemed the trip a ‘fiasco,’ with press complaining that Rihanna was unavailable and they were tired (boo-hoo!). Not shockingly, this one hour special about the whole shebang is even less interesting than those grumpy on-the-scenes reports. Bless that extremely cute, streaking Australian near the end, or there’s be no reason to turn in.
Digital Spy (Rating: 2 Stars)
In the absence of any drama, newsworthy moments or interview time with the singer (“give us a quote” they all chant), the only highlights were an Australian DJ streaking on the plane and a performance from Rihanna in each country; though even these eventually grow tiresome.
“I can’t please everyone… as long as my fans are happy that’s all I f**king care about,” Rihanna concedes at stop number five in Berlin, looking fed up, exhausted and desperate to free herself of her unwanted guests so she can get on with her day job”

In fact there’s not a lot of “the real” Rihanna in the documentary at all. Apart from a short intro at the start of the journey and a thank you once it’s finished, it doesn’t seem like her passengers got to spend much time up close and personal with the Diamonds singer… certainly not half as much RiRi time as they would have hoped.

Given how “majah” her movement is at the moment, one would expect she’d be able to generate positive press with the cut of the right cheque. However, it’s clear that the media won’t be manipulated this go round. No putting a pretty bow on her usual BS this go round.
Perhaps it’s time to stop ‘pouring it up’ in the club, tailoring her life to the tabloids, and outrightly refusing to realize her potential. Because it appears her era of “automated” success is nearing its end.

Lemme just put my two cents in here…
I’m sure some critics loved this Doc, but I am not surprised if this got bad reviews. There is no insight and there is nothing revealed about Rihanna that we already did not know so I believe. It is a documentary about a plane flight with multiple stops, fans and journalists on that plane and Rihanna’s promotional machine.
If, say, it was about her and Chris from their point of view or the toll that touring can take on someone who also wants to enjoy their life like Rihanna does and the balance that somebody has to achieve and/or things they have to give up on to be in the public eye then maybe this would’ve received better reviews.
Life is but a dream did have it’s mediocre reviews. And there were plenty of them. The documentary in itself, personally, was very bizarre I thought. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t appreciate what I took from it. I also don’t think any of the LIBAD reviews were as harsh as the ones here because Beyonce revealed things about her father, her miscarriage, relationship with Jay-Z and it gave us all an insight into her life that we never had before.
Rihanna will be fine. I hope she does another documentary in the future, because her story would make for great viewing if it was done right.
By the way, I’m a through and through Beyonce fan.
That doesn’t mean that I cannot be critical of her or indeed totally hate on her rivals. I can understand that there is PLENTY room in the music industry for everyone that is there and on the come-up.

I know more about Rih’s personal life than I do my fave, Christina’s, because unlike Rih, Christina does not exploit her personal life for publicity and engage in controversy after controversy. At least when Christina goes through a rough time, she handles herself with dignity and maturity unlike Rih who pops a crack pipe in her mouth, posts naked pics on instagram, cancels shows citing illness but really because she wants to party.
No matter how much evidence arises that Rih does not care about her fans and is very ungrateful for everything afforded to her, her fans remain the most delusional

It’s basically a Beyonce fan site, that also promotes Roc Nation acts, and singers associated with Beyonce and

Rita Ora, Azaelia Banks, Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj, Frank Ocean, Mariah Carey, Kelly Rowland, Justin Timberlake, anyone associated with Beyonce and Jay Z, or managed by Roc Nation.
They are rude to other acts, especially white acts, why Nicole Scherzinger gave you an interview with her, after several insulting articles on her success, i don’t know.
That Grape Juice is one of the few sites that still supports Beyonce,
Billboard have openly criticized her stealing ideas, one after another a long list of them,
She was criticized for trying to steal the limelight at the swearing in of President Obama,
for the animals who died to make her luxury sneakers,
for her Queen Beyonce shtick, and Bow Down which was heavily criticized,
criticized for inappropriate dancing at the Superbowl, which wasn’t suitable for a family audience in a lot of people’s eyes,
criticized for her documentary life is but a dream, which was called self indulgent and uninteresting
criticized by Mitch Winehouse for stealing Back to Black, she only paid the right’s to use the song, after he complained about the issue and it caught attention through twitter.
But not a single comment on That Grape Juice about it.
It’s all positive, so while That Grape Juice might not overtly lie, it doesn’t exactly the truth, and also embellishes a lot.
