Today saw Mariah Carey kick off the Good Morning America ‘Summer Concert Series’ — diva style.
Backed by a full band, the ‘#Beautiful’ singer rocked the crowd of thousands with her latest hit (bringing along guest Miguel). Premium Mimi also gave a nostalgic nod to her catalogue of classics, performing ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘We Belong Together’.
How did she fare? The answer awaits after the jump!
Hmm…
We love us some Mimi, but no, no, and no to those vocals. It’s “Mariah”, so even on her worst day, rare moments of brilliance will shine through. However, in one too many instances here, she sounded like she was gargling concrete. Again, we adore Mariah as much as the next, yet we’re dealing with facts here — her voice wasn’t up to par.
Interestingly, Ms. Carey-Cannon now has this consistent habit of blaming the sound, her mic, or her dress for the so-so’ness of her modern-day performances. However, the more she tries to conceal this with a giggle and a laugh, the more apparent her performing “issues” become.
Harsh sounding? Perhaps. Yet when, like Mimi, you throw your hat into the rat race that is today’s charts, the said artist opens themselves up for the same critique everyone else gets. As such, for yours truly, the inevitable “she has nothing left to prove” BS is just that…BS.
Here’s hoping future showings get better from here on out!

I don’t agree with Mariah having surgery to repair her voice…her voice has deterioriated,well it happens,but she still can work with what she has.Don’t forget she still does justice to some of her older hits (make it happen,dreamlover,underneath the stars) than her newer hits (TMB,TRIUMPHANT)…I don’t care whether she’ll eventually be limited to studio singing,all i know is that any surgery that can risk her losing her singing voice (see Julie Andrews) should not be entertained….let her work with her new voice like Whitney did on that modern classic I LOOK TO YOU.

This is very honest! It’s so honest that you’re either a big fan or a little bit of an hater (I’d go with the former). Many Mariah Carey stans gloss over anything Mariah does that isn’t acceptable and they’re often the first to criticize (esp if that name of that artists they’d go awf on was Whitney, Beyonce, Xtina or Jlo). Their brutally “honest”, but one of the most sensitive stans you can insult with the truth. I love Janet, but her stans are the same way. it might be a legend thing. I still feel like you must be very honest sometimes because that artists will indeed believe that there’s nothing to correct if all their getting is praises for messy performances. I hate when people expect 90’s vocals from Mariah. I do give her a pass because she was simply one of the best voices I ever heard (along with Whitney, Celine and a few others), but she should be doing better than what she’s doing now. I dont think you all were listening or watching the same performance as I was. Cuz she f****** SLAYED WBL!!!!! Sure the verses were a little rushed or out of breath, but the ending was pure raw grandness, which is what I/we love about Mariah. I’ll just say this i was there at the GMA concert and it was the sound that messed up the beautiful performance. Her vocals were amazing and she slayyed all of the songs she sang. Even during her rehearsal and random riffs and runs. She sang baby doll for us and she slayyed it. Her voice is definitely back so if you weren’t there to see her do it then Shut The F*** Up !!!!!
