American Idol is drawing to an end tonight and – depending on which reports you believe – so too is Mariah Carey‘s time on its judging panel.
Whatever the case, the diva supreme ensured she used the millions watching this evening’s finale to her advantage to promote new single ‘#Beautiful’.
Watch below as Mimi performs the Miguel assisted cut together with a medley of her biggest hits including ‘Vision of Love’, ‘Hero’, and ‘We Belong Together’.

While leaps and bounds better than some of Mimi’s recent live showings, the medley and its editing was at best bizarre. It’s clear the motive was to remind the masses of her bevy of hits. Yet, in doing so, she spread herself too thin, serving up morsels of material rather than anything meaty enough to get into. A mistake, from our vantage point, given that her new single should have been the main priority (perhaps one classic track + ‘#Beautiful’ would have made more sense). Add to this the fact that her vocals were “iffy” in places and this felt like a bit of a let-down.
Still, better than most of her recent-ish showings…which must count for something…right?

A really good performance overall, but I can’t help but feel that her diva “moments” are a bit much in those medleys. With the wind machine and the way she keeps on flailing her arms/hands, there’s too much going on – makes it hard for people to relate to her. Besides, it seems that she’s lost her vocal range, since it’s not as good as it used to be – which I guess is common with aging. I love that she just stood there for a good two minutes after the performance. She wants to see that standing ovation goddammit (which of course she feels she deserves – if not the entire audience bowing down to her majesty)! Ugh… #typical

The “Delay” was because you watched in online. I did notice they chopped the best vocal cuts from her 3 performances and pasted them over the visual edit. Aint nothin wrong with that but the choppiness of the medley only exposed that. When she got into the songs, it was great. Especially “WBT” she sounded FLAWLESS. Effortless. We’ve heard her struggle thru the WBT verses but this was just snatched for life perfect phrasing YESS!!!

I went to the taping and she did 3 takes so this is a combo of the best vocals of the 3 which makes it look like she’s lipsynching and her mouth is a little off. She sung most of it live, and the belting on My All, Make It Happen and We Belong Together was different every take so it was live. She sung a lot acapella between takes and sounded great. There was a backing track (meaning no band, I don’t think Randy was actually playing) but I guess it was for consistency since they were doing more then one take. The medley was weirdly edited and sounds like there wasn’t an instrumental of #Beautiful ready in time so she sings over the original track. She looks stunning.

i do not get why everytime mariah carey has a good performance she has to be lip syncing? this performance was obviously live. i hate people that can’t give anyone credit. because even on mariah’s worst days she can out sing RIHANNA, NICKI MINAJ, KESHA, BRITNEY,AND HALF THE OTHER B**** OUT THERE. so hush and recognizze greatness. she did seem rushedthough , but she had a five minute time slot to fil, so tough titty. mariah at the end of the day gets a 90% out of a 100% for this performance.
