She’s the charismatic Female MC with an army of loyal supporters and a UK smash hit single to her name. Unfortunately, that smash hit single wasn’t enough to silence the controversy brewing around the Australian star…thanks to messages she allegedly posted two years ago on the social networking site Twitter.
Some of the language you’ll see below is likely to offend, so please consider this your warning.Array
Months before she’s set to storm the MOBO Awards 18th anniversary ceremony, Iggy has been confronted for reportedly racist remarks she made rising to notoriety…as seen below:
In response to the above, some users on the social networking site responded with:
As fans of the performer, we’d be lying if we said weren’t repulsed and disgusted by her remarks, and now find ourselves wondering what may happen once the US campaign for her debut album kicks off.
So, as to explain herself, she tweeted (from the bottom up):
While it’d be easy for us to say the Rapper meant no harm by her remarks, there is something unsettling about the way in which audiences are expected to take racism and bigotry lightly when its spewed by their favorite acts.
Indeed, much like when Rick Ross thought it cool to allegedly glamorise date rape, the offended minority is expected to ‘let it go’ all in the name of art, or in Iggy’s case…the name of time.
To Iggy, the problem seems not to be her own supposed racism, but the ‘immature ppl’ who dared to call her out on it- cheeky by any standard.
So, while we’ll continue to enjoy her music, here’s hoping this incident encourages more acts to keep their more controversial opinions to themselves, and take responsibility for their actions….even if they are two or so years old.
