With American Idol wrapped, it’s back to business for Nicki Minaj.
The Young Money madam joins R&B crooner Mario as a guest on his comeback single ‘Somebody Else’ – which hit the net last month.
As the old age adage goes, time waits for no one. Hence, in a bid to give the track an added push, the pair came together to shoot its accompanying video.

Tidbit: Did anyone else wince a bit during Mario and Minaj’s super “formal” greeting and at other select points of this preview? Of course, not all artists are BFF’s, but I guess this drove home the “business” side of the industry. For, this collaboration (like most) seems more like a mutually beneficial “transaction” – one which sees Mario benefitting from Minaj’s mainstream appeal in his bid to “comeback”, and Nicki able to combat the “sold out” chants by keeping her Urban presence felt at a relatively ground level. Nothing “wrong” with this (if anything, it’s the reality of most collabos), it’s just that here it’s more apparent. Anyway, enough of my rambling…

Love this song by Mario. Reminds of his music before that last album. This preview seemed like it was more of a Nicki Minaj diary than a preview/behind the scenes of Mario video. IMO but I ain’t mad. You gotta get the hype somehow.

With little to no chemistry in the song and video, this won’t help Mario build an identity for himself. It might do good for the short term, like “Break Up”, but Mario really needs to extend his focus and have a long term plan.
