Robin Thicke Set For First #1 Album, Rocks ‘America’s Got Talent’

Published: Wednesday 31st Jul 2013 by Rashad

It’s shaping up to be a good week for Grammy winning singer/songwriter Robin Thicke.

With the weeks past affording him his first #1 single on Billboard Hot 100 ‘Blurred Lines’, news has now surfaced that the top-selling, Pharrell/T.I.-assisted number is assisting Thicke to his first ever Billboard 200 reign (to be reflected upon the chart’s refreshing next week).

The ‘Sex Therapy’ performer, who has been on a weeklong promo of the new critically acclaimed album, made his most recent stop aboard tonight’s episode of ‘America’s Got Talent’.  Rejoining former ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood’ co-star Nick Cannon, see Thicke show ’em how it’s done with his show-stopping performance below:

Projected 1st week sales: Robin Thicke – ‘Blurred Lines’ (130k)

Yay!!!!!!! So happy to hear this!

Meh. That’s not an impressive #. Considering the success of the BL song, the album should have opened with **at least** 300k. At this rate the album will probably struggle to go Gold, while that song ends up going like 10x platinum or whatever. How F***** UP is today’s lopsided, misguided music climate?

TBH the album isn’t all that. All the songs on the album sound the same to me. Except “Give It 2 U ft. Kendrick Lamar” which is the best from the album. Blurred Lines is played out, but congrats on the success of the song, can’t hate on that.

Lol truth must hurt. RT got all these people buying and playing BL (even country radio is spinning it) but is being almost totally ineffective in getting them to trust that his album is worth the measly 10 bucks. lol A year from now he’ll be still trying to go Gold with this, while JT (yep I went there) will be triple platinum in the US alone. Ouch!

      Shut up

He’s mainly had only a black fanbase since he sticks with R&B. Sorta like Teena Marie and Lisa Stansfield use to be.

TBH, “Blurred Lines” is the hottest single of the year and that is going to carry him to new heights as it has. It’s #1 for an 8th week now and will be #1 for probably two more weeks at least. Only thing that’s gonna take that from #1 is the Katy Perry single that drops August 9 and the Gaga single that drops August 19th. Next week, Robin will have a #1 album no matter what the exact figure is and will have the #1 song also at the same time. I doubt it will be as low as 130k when it’s all said and done next week that would really make me mad! But he has longevity on this project. Damn near every one of these songs is single worthy. The next single is “Give It 2 U (feat. Kendrick Lamar)” which I’m not a huge fan of! That will probably peak at #15 or so. Won’t be a #1 for sure. Once that starts falling off, which will be VERY fast compared to Blurred Lines he needs to drop “Go Stupid 4 U” ASAP! Again, won’t be #1 but it will give him something nice to have for the fall. Once that’s done for the November time frame he needs to put “Feel Good” as the single for the pop audience and also send out “Get In My Way” for the urban single. He can get this album to platinum status if he does it right, no doubt. All the videos need to be on point and he needs to show his urban base some major love & actually record videos for his “urban” singles. I wasn’t happy how he put out “4 The Rest Of My Life” and didn’t drop a nice video with Paula like he usually does. Would have really helped especially now that Billboard is counting Youtube streaming in their chart tallying. I could see his “Blurred Lines” song fans clicking on a related video and really maybe even blast that RnB single right onto the Hot 100 at least somewhere in the mix not even top 80 but somewhere.

  10. Navy nick August 1, 2013

Robin so deserves a #1 album: my favorite song after blurred lines is go stupid for u., man i just left gym & played it 3 times in a row, its a good cd to play while working out, pressure oh la la & some more im feeling it

  11. S****** Blonde August 1, 2013

I’m so happy 4 him, he f****** ds, this is just the bg for him.

  12. QueenB August 1, 2013

Y’all are forgetting that despite him being white and gaining some mainstream exposure, his core fanbase is still the urban market. Blurred lines may be a hit but the rest of the album is quite weak. considering that he’s an RnB act , that’s still relatively unknown to white people, those numbers are very strong. Compare them to other RnB albums that have come out in the last 2 years and he actually did really well.

  13. RB August 1, 2013

    1. He’s still a RnB/pop act so those numbers are good considering the genre of music. One of the best first week numbers for an RnB act in the past 2 years
    2. He might be white but his main fanbase is still black coz just a few months ago he was still relatively unknown to white folks
    3. A #1 is still a number 1

Thats what yo dad told yo mammy

  15. Dev August 1, 2013

His dancing always kills me! Soul when singing, no rhythm-less when dancing.

Anyway, i like Robin but this is his worse album as far as i am concerned but he deserves the success and its well overdue. I hope he returns to the old Robin before too long

  16. please b**** August 1, 2013

Congrats to Robin! He is really a deserving talent.

  17. truth(the new and refined TRUTH. f*** icki she done now i just slay a b****…yew mad??) August 1, 2013

This white boy is hot honey!! Loooove da song btw

  18. POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 1, 2013

Ok First Week Numbers, I knew that will happen to him…

he Is Yet to build a Major Strong fanbase, More power to Him.

But Congrats for having a #1 Album and a HIT. 😀

Loved his album, So Fun. 😀 4/5

  19. JER August 1, 2013

Good for him, but it won’t make that mediocre album any better.

  20. pat August 1, 2013

Blurred lines is a smash and he’s white so I was thinking at least 200k, but 130k decent for an r and b artist who has never had crossover appeal.

  21. amar August 1, 2013

he needs to go back to making music like he did on the evaluation, i hate how artists like usher, now robin thickie leave behind their roots

  22. Absolved August 1, 2013

Playing down bad or mediocre numbers like they’re “ok considering…” Is one if the reasons why the music business is in shambles now. I dont care if Robin is a polka singer, Blurred Lines is arguably the biggest hit of the decade so far, so his album should have sold more out the gate. These numbers are weak.
