Robin Thicke Tops British Albums Chart With ‘Blurred Lines’ / Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ Spends 140th Week In Top 40

1 million units sold in the market made Robin Thicke‘s singles ‘Blurred Lines’ one of the highest selling singles in the country of all time.

Last night, in extending his winning streak, British audiences took its supporting album of the same name to #1 on the Official UK Albums Chart!

Full story below…

Knocking Jay Z‘s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ off the top spot, ‘Lines‘ now sits at #1 but- despite being an R&B album- is not listed as such on the chart, so misses out on topping the Urban tally, where ‘Carta’ still reigns.

Likely to enjoy similar heights in the US, Thicke’s run atop the chart comes after the aforementioned Urban chart saw Rihanna’s ‘Loud‘ score a brand new feat, three years after its November 2010 release.

For, despite being outsold by Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday’ in the US, it has outperformed the #1 album in the UK, spending its 140th non-consecutive week in the Urban Top 40.

Certified 6x Platinum in the nation for sales of over 1,800,000 units, spawning the #1 singles ‘Only Girl in the World’, ‘What’s My Name‘, and the Soundz produced ‘Skin‘!

    • POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

+1 for the direction, -10 for the Execution.

    • KING RIH July 22, 2013

Loud is f****** flawless. It really is. The era, the album, the tour…Like there was nothing wrong with that era. Rihanna was literally everywhere for promo.

She really should have another writing camp like she did for Loud. Damnit!

Damn….!!! Then came the mediocre uncohesive Talk That Talk, but so glad she made up for it with Unapologetic.

Damn! Rih is great! To be quite honest!

    • POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

Why you All hate “TTT” ? 😥

it gave you “We found love” and “Where have you been” to say the least.

    • KING RIH July 22, 2013

TTT was actually a good album. It was just not promoted plus too much Ester Dean.

      • blue July 22, 2013

it gave us DO YA THANG

      • MuiMui July 22, 2013

Rihanna Music gives Us Hope, and no matter how she might not please some, she still manages to please many. And there is a article floating around that says she was not late, like people are lying and saying.

She is still the Youngest to do some Stadium this early on Her Diamond Tour, and say what You want ,that much has made Music His-To-Rih already.

    • Lovebird ( Bow out b****!!!!) July 22, 2013

TTT is actually pretty good, the promo was just sloppy. Plus AKA spilled the tea that it sold 4.2 million.

  3. JOHNVIDAL July 22, 2013

How many copies did he sell? I mean, is it a huge #1 album or is it just a #1 by default? It´s interesting to know cos it will give us an idea of how good or not the album will do in the USA and if he is here to stay on top of the charts with future singles (or maybe it was just a once in a lifetime worldwide hit single).

  4. LTM July 22, 2013

Oh how I do miss the LOUD era. I know most fans stan for Rated R but LOUD is my fav album/era. I hope her next album is more like LOUD and not TTT or Unapologetic. Sam I can’t with you clinging to the irrelevant fact that PF outsold LOUD in the U.S when everyone knows LOUD sold 3x as much worldwide where it really matters. Hell it outsold both of Nicki’s albums combined.

    • POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

LOUD is the Era she gained New Fans, Was more focused , best Looks, etc….

      Love everything about it.

      • blue July 22, 2013

Loud gave us that Bon Jovi Performance…Rockstar!!!

      • POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

        @BLUE:

it gave US a lot to be happy about DECADES to come.

    • Lovebird ( I want to eat Cassie’s poonani) July 22, 2013

I’m still on a LOUD high to thisis day, I’m still here for what’s my name.

  5. Navy nick July 22, 2013

Is this Robins 1st #1 album ??? Sooo happy for him

  6. LTM July 22, 2013

And congrats to Robin Thicke on his U.K success. I wonder why they didn’t bill his album as an Urban release. Hopefully he’ll have similar success in the U.S. Can’t think of anyone else releasing that week.

    • blue July 22, 2013

He is white…there for either pop or soul or pop soul
or they might just go with alternative like they do rihanna.

if he was local they would know how to classify him

    • CiCi fan July 22, 2013

Yeah. it is odd b/c blurred lines is clearly r&b pop. hE IS EVEN MORE R&B THAN RIHANA. odd that the UK would not put him on urban charts??

i wonder if JT was on urban charts over there? His album is absolutely r&b

  7. POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

    Everything about LOUD Slays.

I Loved Every Moment of This Era.

Congrats to the two Robyns. 😀

  8. POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

    @Sam:

they had a photoshoot Together back in the day, why don’t use any photo out of it ?

  9. FAF July 22, 2013

Worldwide sales are a matter of opinion the US is the birthplace of rap of course foreigners don’t always get it !

    • The Way July 22, 2013

      What’s Cierrors excuse ??

  10. FAF July 22, 2013

A rap album is like country music it has a niche audience I wouldn’t expect ppl in Venezuela to bop to Toni Braxton no more than I would expect Nicki to go 6x platinum ww over A pop singer

    • POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

I am always 🙄 , so when do you decide Nicki is a rapper or a Pop Star ?

so when she flops you use the ” she’s a rapper” excuse and when she FINALLY gets it after releasing trillion singles you use the ” She’s more than a rapper, she’s POP” ?!

Nicki Was never successful Thank Ke$ha, let alone Rihanna.

LOUD outsold Everything she released, and she still has a successful career, unlike lil-kim Lite, she can stay local In US and even Sell 10 millions there, she will still be LOCAL.

Rihanna is POP and she Dominated Everything she had her sight on, Your nicki is still struggling with the “Rap or Pop” question. 😆

3 years and the b****’s career done gone flushed in the toilet, where it belongs. (see her latest attempt of an album)

      😈

  11. POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

B****** need to be grateful, Rihanna helped this Bleaching trainwreck called Onika to get a hit for her album. “FLY”

Rihanna is So Nice, She was So Amazing to this Flopped 12345666789666-singles-per-week-releasing H**.

    • blue July 22, 2013

i love fly…love the i believe i can fly/fly mashup glee did, which riri, nicki and r.kelly could just decide what the hell and give us a treat at some award show

  12. Mark111 July 22, 2013

That awkward moment when both artist has the same name.

    • blue July 22, 2013

      oh yeah, robyn and robin
just goes to show how little planning sam puts into his post if he couldnt even play or their names or get a pic of them together

  13. FAF July 22, 2013

Unlike R**** nic and ciara gets all their cheques as they contribute musically 😆
*plays what now written by nickis artist Parker*

And I’m not reading the excuses of h***** navi

    • blue July 22, 2013

if you right, then riri must be making crazy money with her music to be able to make more money then your two favs that write their own music

imagine how much money riri would be making if she actually did write…thank god she doesnt contribute anything musically(according to you), cause the size of her cheque then might just help you do the world that lil fav, and give you the push to jump

    • POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

That is why ciara is performing at homosexual rituals for 10K and getting sued while doing so…….. Instead of getting PAID.

and that is why Nicki Is Local and Flopped.

FYI : Rihanna Contribute to her music , Go and Check the critically-acclaimed RR’s Credits, when did those 2 flopped h*** you stan for got that critical acclaim for something they CREATED ? not Like RR. 😛

      😛

GURL I forgot you was homophobic.

        bye

    • . : : h 2 o : : . July 22, 2013

Last time I checked, Dickie Garbaj and C-ommercialDisaster aren’t getting enough “cheques” to even share a Top 1000 position on Billboard’s Music Money Makers or Forbes, much less be Top 15 with $40M+ earnings …..

    • The Boy Toy July 22, 2013

      *checks Forbes List from 2004-2013*

Nope, I don’t see Ciara anywhere. Guess those royalty checks (which Rihanna receives) aren’t THAT great. 😆

  14. POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] July 22, 2013

then Go there, he is also biased when it comes to mariah and BEYONCE, what @sam is doing to rihanna , the “oThER” is doing to Beyonce.

    • REASON July 22, 2013

yes cause i asked you for you input right? f*** off stupid arab

  15. REASON July 22, 2013

NOT AT SAM REMOVING ALL MY COMMENTS JUST FOR TALKING ABOUT THE OTHER GUY, INSECURE H**

  16. . : : h 2 o : : . July 22, 2013

    Wow! Grats to them

  17. Lovebird (I want to eat Cassie’s poonani) July 22, 2013

Congrats to Robin Thicke, you truly deserve it though I’m not buying this album until I fully listen to it. After JT and Lil Wayne, I’m no longer buying albums on hype.

I also see the UK is still on a LOUD high, I know, we all miss it.

  18. Lovebird ( I want to eat Cassie’s poonani) July 22, 2013

And you cannot compare a rap album to a pop album Samantha, Pink Friday is a rap album that had an accidental pop hit Super Bass. It’s Rap all the way.

  19. Rihyonce July 22, 2013

Congrats Robin & Robyn! To me LOUD is her best album.

  20. Monstarebel July 22, 2013

    Loud is a masterpiece.

  21. stacey July 22, 2013

So Sam, how come you haven’t mentioned Ciara only sold an additional 5k WW outside of the 58k she sold in her debut week?
