‘Same Love’: Macklemore Speaks Out On Homophobia In Hip Hop With ‘Hot 97’

Published: Thursday 11th Jul 2013 by David

With ‘one hit wonder’ talk of his cause well and truly dead, ‘Fake ID’ Rapper Macklemore made his way to Ebro Darden‘s ‘Hot 97‘ for an interview many are calling a must see.

Packed with a freestyle and nothing but honesty from ‘Thrift Shop’ purveyor, his time with station saw him speak openly on his stance on homophobia in Hip Hop, and how his new single ‘Same Love‘ seeks to push the equality he thinks the field is missing.

An interesting watch below…

On homophobia in hip-hop: “That’s my community [hip-hop], that’s who I see to be oppressing gay people. The f-word and saying “that’s gay” are still rampant. Homophobia is still rampant in the hip-hop community and it just gets the co-sign.”

On hip-hop’s progress: “It’s getting better. The last year has gotten a lot better, but for so long, it was just an issue that nobody touched on.”

On being a white rapper: “You’re immediately going to get placed in the box, you’re immediately going to be corny. That’s the first place that you go. I do it too. I, for the most part, don’t like white rappers either. I think that most white rappers are corny.”

I wish this blog would stop being lazy and transcribe these interviews just in case there is someone who is I able to play the videos for whatever reason or rather not sit through a whole interview. The topic of this post was his view on homophobia in hip hop. That part should at least be written out. This happens quite often on this blog and its quite annoying.

    DO BETTER PLEASE.

This white homosexual is not a rapper or part of the hip hop world. Blacks have more to worry about than homo nastiness. George zimmerman’s bro is HOMO..

Blacks are not oppressing anyone, just the out of wedlock kids in the hood. F*** this white f**. Em dissed more f*** than any black rapper. And he made millions doing it.
