Major: Lady GaGa To Open The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards

Published: Monday 19th Aug 2013 by Sam

This Sunday’s MTV VIdeo Music Awards are set to be a must-see from the onset.

Stacked with performances from the likes of Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, and Robin Thicke, the night’s most anticipated performer Lady GaGa has been confirmed as the first to grace the stage at the show’s 30th anniversary.

Full story after the jump…

The revelation came courtesy of MTV.com following the premiere of the superstar’s ‘Applause’ music video on Good Morning America today.

As earlier reported, the DJ White Shadow track is the number the singer will perform, with the VMA slot serving as the song’s first live showcase.

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards takes place live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Be sure to keep it locked on That Grape Juice for the net’s most robust coverage of one of Pop’s biggest calendar nights.

Her 2nd time doing so? This is going to have a lot of haters pressed! (As they should be)

I’m sure it’s going to be a spectacle. I don’t think a lot of artists can say they opened up the VMAs twice within a short span of time.

    I’m excited for it.

      right!

while KATY IS GLOWING on the Digital Songs Chart

i shall be laughing to the pits of hell when i see her perform the ANTHEMIC ROAR

katy Perry and her stuggle voice shall put her fans to shame.

      i shall be waiting .

  2. GAGA IS OVER! August 19, 2013

    NO LONGER GOGO FOR GAGA?

WHAT??? Who woulda thunk it. It just seemed like yesterday when Gaga was the reigning pop queen, and everything she put out turned multiplatinum. That is until Katy Perry with her #5 consecutive #1’s made her the ultimate “Singles Queen”. Still, when both pop artist announced that they would be releasing new material, the world expected Gaga to stomp all over Katy. This couldn’t have been farther from the truth. IT all started when Katy released her single, on time, even after a leak threatned to trouble her sales. Gaga, who hadn’t tweeted for months, took to her twitter and started warning fans of a “911 pop emergency” and telling of “leaks” that were “going” to happen (even though only a small snippet of the chorus seemed to have come out). Still Gaga, in her true fashion, did her best to bring attention to herself with her some 39,000,000-twitter followers. So both pop divas went head to head releasing there singles (Katy one day ahead of Gaga), but still the world watched closely. Within 9 hours, Katy had stormed to #1 and thanked her fans in true fashion. Once Gaga put out her song the next day, fans struggled to watch it tip toe its way to #2 before falling within a few days, where it now sits at #7. What happened? In my opinion both songs are amazing. While “Roar” has much more commercial appeal. “Applause” is still very experimental and Gagaish. But even with the week in advance push that Gaga had, we still expected to see her dethrone Katy, who is STILL #1. Gaga released her music video to “Applause” on GMA this morning and has been assuring fans that her single isn’t “flopping” due to it’s radio deal that goes into affect this morning. Still numbers do not lie (see @rihanna) as Katy is expected to push a staggering 550k and Gaga a small 225k. WHAT? “Born This Way” pushed double that in just three days! Has Gaga lost her touch? Will her music video rebound the song? I personally do not think so. Rushing a single and a music video so close together is only going to make the song die prematurely because there is no more to look forward too. Her VMA performance isn’t going to help much because she is opening the show, and after JT, Miley Cyrus, Kanye, and even Katy perform, she will most likely be forgotten by the end of the night (See 2011 VMAS when Beyonce “Love on Top” stole the show).
As a former Gaga fan it is not a surprise to see her fall from public favor. Her “Born This Way” era did her much more bad than good. It exposed her as a fame hungry and desperate (her exploiting the gay community for sales). She overhyped her album calling it the “Album of the Decade” when Adele proved her to be nothing but a liar. “Born This Way” won no Grammys, a few VMA’s, but not the usual reign that Gaga has over the industry. Now with this new era, I believe the world was hoping to see a Gaga more focused on her music than the antics she usually pulls (outfits, dramatic videos that make no sense, ect). But it didn’t take long before she was doing ANYTHING for attention. Now her “fake” public fued with Perez is gaining headlines, instead of her MUSIC! Yet just a week ago she told her fans to “stop the drama, start the music”. Really Gaga? Seems like you’re the one who is starting all the drama. Meanwhile Katy seems unbothered. She is gearing up for the VMA’s while her song sits comfortably at the top and because she is #winning, she hasn’t had to do any “attention seeking” media ploys to get people interested in her music. What happened to Gaga? Well the truth is she is a very competitive woman and a bit of a liar. She tells fans that she “hates money” but she tours around the world, signs lucrative endorsement deals, ect. Eh? Her attempt to seem like the “girl next door” is a weak marketing strategy. She was very used to being Pop Musics “it girl” when now she is far from it. “Born This Way” was able to do 1,000,00 plus in first week sales due to the “hype” and “Fame monster” wave she was riding, but I’m betting “Artpop” will struggle to see 300k. Her die hard fans will defend her to the end, which is coming sooner than later. I once used to see Gaga as someone who would be a force to be reckoned with. But will she have longevity? She came out in 2008 and five years later she is struggling to keep headlines. Sure her song went #1 in 500 countries within a few hours, but it fell shortly after. After all the “costumes”, “hype”, “dramatic video concepts”, “dressing up like a man”, “twitter ranting about her sales”, “attention seeking ways” , it seems the world is truly no longer GoGo for Gaga. But when you bulid a house on sand, it can’t stand for too long. She is one of the most talented women in the industry, but because she spent more time dressing up in meat, then showing the world how amazing a talent she is, we no longer care. It’s too late. Don’t’ get me wrong. Gaga will always be able to tour and have “mediocre” success in sales. But this is Gaga we are talking about! She’s used to so much more. Those days are over and done. As a matter of fact, I can bet you in five more years, we won’t even be writing stories about her.

    • JJFan1814 August 19, 2013

I didn’t even bother reading this goddamn novel chile. Not here for it.

    • FRESH NAVY August 19, 2013

      OMG THAT ESSAY THOUGH!!!!

      GaGa has you so bothered.

its funny you think GaGa isnt the pop queen because katy perry new single will block her from number 1

GaGa was never a singles artist

look t when Rude Boy blocked her and and BEY from getting a #1 with TELEPHONE

none of your faves will ever sell a milli again….

BTW Outsold all of KATY’S albums.

      and prisim will flop watch

      • . : : h 2 o : : . August 19, 2013

It’s not like I could give 3 shits on singles and $1 track sales … but how does that “blocking” make any sense when “Telephone” went to outsell “Rude Boy” worldwide?

      Awwwww,salty little b****,pressed much?

  4. hh August 19, 2013

I’m sick of seeing her open the show. I was thinking Jay Z/JT with holy grail and then bring out beyonce for her new single with him or Part II. Applause will still be fallin off the charts.

  5. JOHNVIDAL August 19, 2013

I swear 10 or 15 years ago slow kids weren´t as hateful as they are nowadays. Now the bigger you are the more hate you get. In the past the media was the one who hated on artists once they made them uber famous (Michael, Whitney, they tried it with Mariah but failed, etc). Now it´s just the silly kids for no damn reason, apart from the crazy reason of defending talentless acts.

    • Rellz August 19, 2013

I am sure it would have been the same if people were as internet savvy back then as they are now tbh. Because come away from the blogs and internet, no one gives a f*** as much.

    • Iconic cici August 19, 2013

sit down b**** i dont see how you can be a Mariah stan & yet support some so generic attention seeking as GaGa who’s honestly becoming the biggest joke in Hollywood

      • BEYHIVE_MINAJ August 19, 2013

Biggest joke in Hollywood? I needed that laugh, since you Stan for Ciara

      • Rellz August 19, 2013

Ciara is more BET though @Beyhive Minaj, not really Hollywood 😉

  6. Twerk 4 Miley August 19, 2013

Im so over her… her song sucks& the video is forgettable

    • JJFan1814 August 19, 2013

Well sis, at least Applause has lyrical substance unlike We Can’t Stop

      • Twerk 4 Miley August 19, 2013

Lyrical substance? like what i live for the applause ? put your hands up make em touch ? Sounds pretty generic and basic to me atleast Miley is exploring new songs and evolving as an artist why gaga keeps putting out the same edm crap!

      • BEYHIVE_MINAJ August 19, 2013

But Miley sings about shaking butts like she’s at a strip club and getting lined in the bathroom. So sit.

      • Common Sense August 19, 2013

Lyrical substance?! LMAO I can’t breathe LOL!

  7. Rellz August 19, 2013

I am genuinely intrigued to see what she’ll do so i’ll be watching.

  8. Iconic cici August 19, 2013

GaGa has ran her course.. People claim she’s a real artist i don’t see it her discography is more generic than katy perrys nothing but electro pop trash

    • dustin August 19, 2013

and yet gaga could literally fart for 3 and a half minutes to a “generic electro pop trash” track and still sell more than your fav doing the MOST.

lady gaga has an incredible voice and is (aside from a few clumsy lyrics here and there) a pretty damn good songwriter.

call me when ciara actually gets some breath control and buy a proper hit.

    • Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 19, 2013

Well a real artist can write and compose their lyrics, produce, put on a great show, and not just nab any song a songwriter hurls at them. I agree gaga may need to make her music not have the same dance beats but she’s definitely a true artist.

  9. DIGGER BEY August 19, 2013

Lmaooooo @ Gaga is Over. She can’t b over, hence the reason your dumb illerate ass just wrote a book about her bwahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahhhaahahahaha. #SLAY ON GAGA

  10. S****** Blonde August 19, 2013

    Interesting…..

  11. Molly August 19, 2013

When is GaGa guna mature as an artist? She has more talent then Katy & Rihanna but her music is weaker than theirs… I feel like people don’t remember gaga music they only remember the crazy outfits & antics its the sad truth. You can only try to shock so much until people get over it.

    • FRESH NAVY August 19, 2013

      KATY HAS STRONG MUSIC?!!!!!

      IM DEAD

the only person with STRONG MUSIC IS RIHANNA

      hit machine

KATY PERRY MAKES SAFE PERFECTLY PRECISED POP MUSIC

      NOTHING OUT OF THE BOX

      • Molly August 19, 2013

*Checks Itunes* Its obviously stronger then gagas music!

      • Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 19, 2013

Katy’s music isn’t strong. It’s convenient and filter. Good for her that she’s #1 on iTunes but it was expected since she takes the safe route….I will agree that Rihanna’s songs are better than Gaga cuz they all have different sounds. But Katy’s music is more basic than Britney.

    • Miami August 20, 2013

Correction she has more talent than katy and rihanna combined

  12. Tea Drinker August 19, 2013

    SEETHE!!!!

Gaga is opening? That just means Katy, JT, Kanye, Miley and others will have time to outshine her. Nobody remembers the “opening act” see (2011 VMA’s Love on Top)

    • Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 19, 2013

Love on top was remembered tho and the best performance of the night. Ur dumb. No one remembers opening acts? (See MJ and Madonna’s performances then)

      • Tash August 19, 2013

That’s what she/he is saying, Love On Top was NOT the opening act.

    • Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 19, 2013

And dead at Miley and Katy outshining anybody…u tried.

  13. ABC August 19, 2013

I’m sure shell pull out the big guns (attention seeking antics) for this performance. Yawn.

  14. DIGGER BEY August 19, 2013

  15. Beatriz August 19, 2013

f*** you h***!!! beyonce is done bet that

  19. BEYHIVE_MINAJ August 19, 2013

I’m ready to get snatched gaga always delivers

  20. christinastherealtalent August 19, 2013

Im laughing at how this site has the title of this article starting with “MAJOR”….Gaga has built her career on sabtoaging other artists and creating unncessary controversy just for publicity. Nothing about music these days is “real” and will have no longetivity nor will be remembered in many years to come from now. Adele is the only artists in the recent years who has put out an album of quality and substance that will be remembered as a legacy.

    • Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 19, 2013

Adele doesn’t have an extraordinary voice like Whitney, Aretha, or MC tho. Her voice can only hold her over for so long. I think folks will get tired of her after a while. If all her songs in the future r the same self-pity and heartbreak she can keep that cuz ppl will eventually move on….

      • POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 19, 2013

b**** F*****’ please, Adele need less to Sell More, she depend only on her Actual Talent(s), Everybody is here for a Good Love song, She Got The voice, people are here for Adele and only little monsters are checking for gaga.

“19” kept selling years later, I don’t see anyone got tired of adele.

and who THE F*** are you to talk in the name of People ?

  21. Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 19, 2013

Robin thicke’s performances as of lately of blurred lines have been terrible. JT’s performances have been forgettable. Katy perry is not a good performer and that’s always been established. Miley will be the same ol same ol and mediocrity at best. Kanye West’s antics will be too complex for anyone to care….these the artists you think will outshine Gaga? We’ll see. I highly doubt it though. Only way Gaga would have competition is if Beyonce was performing.

  22. JER August 19, 2013

Good choice, get it out of the way early.

    • Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 19, 2013

Get it out of the way before we see the other bland performances you mean…

      • JER August 19, 2013

not you accidentally dragging your fave

  23. BEYHIVE_MINAJ August 19, 2013

I wish bey was performing though. She would be the only competition for gaga.

    • TurnUp4cici August 19, 2013

shes not B**** get over it

      • BEYHIVE_MINAJ August 19, 2013

Lol b**** you’re one f****** joke. F*** outta here h**,don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out

  24. DIGGER BEY August 19, 2013

Lmaoooooo Jer is mad that all of Hoeianna’s performance are “Get It Out The Fawk Way” bwahahahaahahahahahaahaahahahha. R**** and the other lessers wish they can deliver magic on stage like Mother Monster. #WISH ON C*NTS

  25. Lovebird (roar – prism – 10.22.23) August 19, 2013

So the monsters have convinced themselves that Caca is invincible when it comes to album sales…lol…we’ll see about that.

    • Beyond Amazing (Cause Bey really is!) August 19, 2013

I really wish your would STFU sometimes. You talk to damn much. I’m pretty sure you got your ass beat alot in school.

  26. Lovebird (roar – prism – 10.22.23) August 19, 2013

I am enjoying this so much, the fall of a generic nonsensical, sadistic, arrogant diva. I love seeing Caca fail, it brings me so much joy. I’m really enjoying this.

  27. mulaah August 19, 2013

how you enjoy sum1’s downfall is beyond my understanding…well i know most people will watch to see gaga do her thing…if only Beyonce was performing then this years ratings would be so high..where is riri with the new video..um so thirsty for beyonce new music coz SOTS,grown woman and epic have run their course for me……..it will be so good to see who wins at the end between gaga and perry coz they got the most talkative fans you could find in the world….heh ma-america ke lisatane hle!!!

    • POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 19, 2013

I’m here for beyonce, gaga ? not so much.

  28. Rosie August 19, 2013

Kinda sad I missed the mess today because I had to do college s*** 🙁
    The drags were hilarious.

I missed it too, sorry for having a life. 🙄

  29. North west stan August 19, 2013

  30. POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 19, 2013

    I’m Not Watching.

  31. Sterling Infinity #MentalHybrid August 19, 2013

    Bring it B^tch!

  32. mr.m August 19, 2013

I’m not sure about letting her open the show!
She did it already two years ago 😐
AND it was a very bad opening. #FACT
MTV should give chances to another artist!
JT should do it, I guess
Anyway, I prefer a “live” Gaga to Katy
At least she can pull a show with some vocals ..
Katy Perry is just a disaster LOL!

    • Beyond Amazing (Cause Bey really is!) August 19, 2013

Right, a HORRIBLE disaster. But I still like her songs though.
