VMA Chart Check: Katy Perry, Drake, Miley Cyrus And Lady GaGa Enjoy Award Show Wins

Published: Monday 26th Aug 2013 by David

Now hours removed from last night’s explosive showing, the 2013 VMAs has gone some way to gift its performers a ‘thank you’ of sorts today.

A thank you, the sings to tune of chart glory.

Chart check below….

After closing the show with a rousing performance of her new single ‘Roar’, Katy Perry watched the number fight off intense competition to hold its spot at #1.

Kicking dust in the face of every other single on iTunes USA, the song surpassed sales of Miley Cyrus‘We Can’t Stop’ which shocked its way back into the top five, earning the #2 after the star’s eyebrow raising delivery at the show, now available to watch here.

Meanwhile on far more gifted ground, Lady GaGa‘s ‘Applause’ sits pretty at #3, holding its Top 5 position as fans rushed to the outlet to purchase the release, fuelled by what many agree was the strongest performance of the night.

Lifted from her hotly anticipated LP ‘ARTPOP‘, the smash hit single’s success on iTunes as pre-orders for the LP saw it rocket to #15 three months before its November 11th release!

Elsewhere, one month his new LP ‘Nothing Was The Same‘ hit shelves on November 24th, Drake‘s ‘Hold On We’re Going Home’ speeds to the Top 20 and finds a spot at #10, while his Platinum number ‘Started From the Bottom‘ reenters the Top 40 and holds court at #38!

Well done to all!

So, T***** Caca is still not #1 like the suicides said she would, lmao. That’s all the news I needed to hear, T***** Caca getting outsold by a Rihanna tribute act, OK lmao.

I think #3 is pretty good. Basicness seems to reign on itunes charts these days. So it´s nothing to worry about. I would be worried if I were a Katy Perry fan cos I wouldn´t know how to handle an entire career of non-singing crap. She´s almost 30 and makes music a 15 years old girl would make, not to mention how the teaser for her new video looks. Why does to rely on heavy backing tracks when she is not dancing at all? Girl DO SOMETHING! LOL
The song is better (nothing too great) and after last night´s performances it´s clear Applause deserves the #1 song in the USA and not Roar (which I suppose will get it eventually) Common sense.

      • Anne August 26, 2013

Both songs are basic. Guess that’s why they are reigning on the charts in the top 3. As you said, it’s a sign of the times in music, with a few exceptions here and there.

  2. The Perrylicious Is Taking Over… August 26, 2013

Applause will drop form the Top 3 any minute.
    Roar will continue to slay.
Gaga is over and get booed at VMA.

    • B**** I Can’t Even Spell Welfare August 26, 2013

Gaga DID NOT get booed! Only the simpletons don’t understand the recorded boos were apart of the performance. The recording was lifted from her “Lady Gaga Is Over: A Film By Haus of Gaga” video.

But I wouldn’t expect a Katy Perry fan (who was HORRIBLE last night by the way) to understand.

    • JOHNVIDAL August 26, 2013

But she didn´t, it was part of a very demanding performance and I´m sure people appreciated it. What did Katy Perry did? She sure didn´t dance, or did something innovative or sing at all.

    • truth(the new and refined TRUTH. f*** icki she done now i just slay a b****…yew mad??) August 26, 2013

      Shut up s***…imma drag yo ass!! I remember u from 2010. #perryliousgongetherasskicked

  3. Jenny August 26, 2013

    What??
Apllause was suck during VMA lol.

  4. Tisha August 26, 2013

Gaga’s era is off to a rough start if folks would rather buy Miley’s single after that performance.

  5. castrobabytiger August 26, 2013

Someone give me a link to Applause on iTunes…..I need another blowjob real bad 🙁

  6. Truth August 26, 2013

GAGA’S performance was wayyyyyt better than Katy Perry’s though. So lets not

    • Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ August 26, 2013

WAY BETTER! Katy could only dream of having a performance as good as Gaga’s.

She’s as basic as they come.

  7. ABC August 26, 2013

Miley made me throw up, and Katy put me to sleep with this corny dead performance. Gaga’s performance was average and the song still sucks. I think it’s pretty safe to say that people are over her.

  8. JARED (WHITE DUDE) August 26, 2013

All of the headlines this morning have been about Miley Cyrus’ DREADFUL performance.

She was desperate for those headlines and the notoriety and, by all means, she got them… in spades. Her new single was briefly #1 on I-Tunes yesterday (it’s #3 now) so I supposed it paid off.

I find it hilarious because ….Gaga is so used to being the centre of attraction, notoriety, and controversy… She must be SEETHING that she got upstaged by ‘Hannah Montana’ – Raw Meat transposed into a Dress, Aesthetic Horns and Clown Costumes etc. aren’t what’s “Hot” anymore.

The media attention/spotlight has moved on to another pop wannabe and I think for such an attention-w**** like Gaga, that burns more than having an under-performing single.

I thought her performance last night was the perfect summary of her five year career to date – a series of, circa. 1977 – 1984, circus costumes [ala. David Bowie, Grace Jones & Freddie Mercury], Bad Wigs and pre-recorded vocals.

Also… Katy Perry’s “Roar” was taken off I-Tunes last night and, when re-uploaded, still managed to surpass that of Gaga’s.

    😉

    • Lovebird (dark horse – prism – 10.22.23) August 26, 2013

True, Rihanna tribute act and Pop darling Justin Timberlake stole the show last night, T***** Caca must be seething, oh and the announcement of Eminem’s album which will come out a week before her album, meaning no #1 album for the t*****, I live, yassssss.

    • JOHNVIDAL August 26, 2013

And how about their talents and music? Cos Gaga destroys those two for damn sure LOL
Hey what happened to you? I heard you were missing for a while cos something happened with you and other commenters. Some of them were saying you embarrased yourself after you left. But I really don´t know what happened LOL

    • truth(the new and refined TRUTH. f*** icki she done now i just slay a b****…yew mad??) August 26, 2013

      U white inbred b****! @jared

    • S****** Blonde August 26, 2013

      @Jared
      I love you, i f****** love you.

      • JARED (WHITE DUDE) August 26, 2013

        I absolutely love you too @Dear S******.

      • S****** Blonde August 26, 2013

You should come more often here, i miss u + i will be less hated if you come here cuz they hate you too.

  9. CIARA FAN August 26, 2013

    • Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 26, 2013

Beyonce’s Super Bowl was better than everyone’s tho….

  10. POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 26, 2013

Look at the Poor thing who copied and pasted Some s*** from another “Blog” ….

Anyway, the music is Dead, all those songs are disappointing.

    people are over GAGA. #fact

    • Lovebird (dark horse – prism – 10.22.23) August 26, 2013

And apparently FLOPause is the best song on that s***** disc, meaning the rest is worst of a mess than express yourself this way, I cannot.

      • POP ROYALTY (F*** Yeah Rihanna) August 26, 2013

        I Didn’t hear “Artpop” , did you ?

But I am so over GaGa since she got N*** in the forest, then I knew she’s desperate for attention.

      • Lovebird (dark horse – prism – 10.22.23) August 26, 2013

I didn’t hear it but I read it somewhere that she played the entire record for her and they liked FLOPause because it’s the best song on the entire thing, which is why they chose it.

        Caca is so done.

  11. Fierce & all -Not here for b****** that can only slay in studios August 26, 2013

I will wait til I hear the rest of the songs and videos from artpop before I become a fake b**** like shitbird and the rest *cough* yeah the Gaga performance coulda been better. But that was only becuz it seemed like she rushed and she was nervous. I’m still here for her.

    • Lovebird (dark horse – prism – 10.22.23) August 26, 2013

Honey, Britney’s VMA performance of gimme more > what Caca served.

      There’s no excusing that mess.

      • Fierce & All August 26, 2013

Lol Ur kidding me, right? Even BEERGUTney doesn’t believe that herself…

  12. I throw Shots August 26, 2013

The show was overall a 2/5
    Gaga was mehhh
    Katy was ……….
    Justin was great
    Miley/robin were a mess
    Bruno was cute
Kanye was having a attack or something on stage

    S*****!!!!!

  13. sandra92 August 26, 2013

    She still didn’t top beyonce

  14. molly August 26, 2013

Will applause ever reach number 1? Katy is holding it down!

  15. Love on top August 26, 2013

Something doesn’t seem right Katy Perry ROAR fell so quick to #27 on itunes and then it was #6 and now its #1 I know her clear channel deal and Performance gave a boost but I mean 27 and people bashing gaga that bish buying her s***

    • JOHNVIDAL August 26, 2013

They like to talk about Gaga´s gimmics but Katy´s single is doing strong cos of her “antics” like faking a 15 years old attitude, releasing basic crap she knows young kids who buy songs on itunes will purchase, rushing the new era so she could debut before Gaga and the biggest radio deal of the year. You can´t fail with that. Gaga should be #1, but #3 on itunes atm is good too, and she has the worldwide status Katy has not. We know Gaga will be more an albums and tours artist in the long run than these singles “queens”.
Did you see how Katy didn´t even attemp to sing her song? Damn I was anticipating the moment she would struggle for dear life, but I didn´t even get that, she just didn´t try… hilarious that she gets a pass.

      • WTF August 26, 2013

lol are you kidding? im from the uk – which is the 3rd or 4th biggest music market in the world. katy perry is more popular here than lady gaga

      • JOHNVIDAL August 26, 2013

More poplular I´m sure she´s not. Give me a f****** break. Gaga has been the most popular pop star around the world these last 5 years sorry. In teh UK Rihanna maybe is more talked about right now, cos she has special success there. But just that.

      • Fierce & All August 26, 2013

Lady Gaga’s sales are more impressive than Katy’s in the UK TBH.

  16. JOHNVIDAL August 26, 2013

Gaga´s Applause should be #1, it is a better song (not too great, but good pop-dance track) and after last night´s performance… come on we know she is a real star with talent. The others are laughable. I´ve always been so hard on Beyonce and she is very unoriginal, etc but as time goes by it is so damn clear to me Gaga and Beyonce are the best thing out right now. It´s a big decrease in quality if we think about what we had in the 80´s and 90´s but damn, they are the best pop/dance/R&B stars from the last generation. The rest of the girls are laughable. And among men, of course we have great ones like Bruno Mars too. Apart from that we have to go a little bit more indie or rock to find great music and talents.

    • Anne August 26, 2013

WHOA! Do my eyes deceive me or is Beyonce finally somewhat winning you over? That’s the thing, you have to go back in the day to find decent competition for Beyonce overall performance and talent wise. Glad you seem to be catching on.

  17. Love on top August 26, 2013

To @poproyalty if Lady gaga is over? Why is rihanna 3rd or 4th single a Generic dance song Failing to even reach the top 30? Tho are people over her? Unlike Riri Gaga can take a break and applause was never gonna do good any1 cus people don’t relate to the lyrics

  18. Random August 26, 2013

Why are Katy fans failing to acknowledge that ROAR fell to 27 and this performance saved it? I’m sure katy buys her single to Roar is toooooo basic I would understand if it was Teenage dream cus dat song slays and plus roar is a Sara Brave rip off

  19. Belladonna1363 August 26, 2013

I had so much fun last night at my annual VMA party watching my Mother Monster out perform everyone Like I told everyone she would that performance was THEATER at its Best ! Even tho The VMA’S will always be my favorite award show I wish Beyonce would have performed as well as Ciara that would have made it in my top3 VMA moments! Lol But Gaga saved the night. Lol

  20. Dev August 26, 2013

The VMA’s were officially a mess! and the best parts of the show were bitter b**** Swifts comment and Lil’ Kim giving an award.
I see in this article there is nothing about Robin Thicke’s record sales after this preformance!? what Mr THICK doesn’t understand is that white America have just accepted you and after that they will disown you, i think his stock will go down after that mess that he was a part of, and to be honest he should be ashamed!

  21. Belladonna1363 August 26, 2013

I’m so proud of Gaga for last night I couldn’t be happier people everyone have been saying her & Justin was the best of the night! & her KIA CAR COMMERCIAL WAS PLAYED 3 times & APPLAUSE HAS SHOT UP EVERYWHERE so now I can’t Waite until November 11th when I can get #ARTPOP !!!! LONG LIVE THEATER !!!! Side NOTE- No other artist other then JT Album PRE-Oder went number1 everywhere this year Like ARTPOP.

    • Fierce & All August 26, 2013
