Chart Check: Miley Cyrus Reigns, Katy Perry Gains

Published: Friday 27th Sep 2013 by Rashad

Despite quite the competition on the digital front from acts like Lorde and ‘SMS’ co-star Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus extends her reign above the Billboard Hot 100 with her latest single ‘Wrecking Ball’ – her first #1 on the tally.

But, if the moves made by Katy Perry‘s former chart champion ‘Roar’ and newest tune ‘Dark Horse’ are any indication, Cyrus’ ride at the top may be short-lived…

According to Billboard:

“Miley Cyrus holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Wrecking Ball.” The song wins a close race with Katy Perry’s former two-week topper “Roar”. Lorde…remains at No. 3 on the Hot 100.

“Ball” drops 1-3 on Digital Songs with a 36% fall to 301,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan; last week, it rocketed 10-1 with 477,000, a 312% rise.

While it reigns for a second frame, “Ball” deflates by 50% in overall Hot 100 chart points. As Perry’s “Roar” (2-2) is down by 8%, the songs are separated by just 2% in points. Last week, “Ball” boasted an almost two-to-one points lead.”

“Perry additionally debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 17 with “Dark Horse” (featuring Juicy J), a preview song from her album “Prism,” due Oct. 22. It begins on Digital Songs at No. 4 (194,000).”

As the three ladies continue to duke it out for the top spot, little change is seen elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10.  See the full tally below:

1.  Miley Cyrus – ‘Wrecking Ball’

2.  Katy Perry – ‘Roar’

3.  Lorde – ‘Royals’

4. Avicii – ‘Wake Me Up’

6. Jay Z featuring Justin Timberlake – ‘Holy Grail’

I remember how Rosie was bragging about Gaga getting stomped by Lana a few weeks ago. Where is she now?… Karma…

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

I still like both artists though.

    • Twerk 4 Miley September 27, 2013

But Applause still struggling to get back in the top 5 i see… Lmao

      • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

It’s a top ten hit. Not every good song makes number 1. But u can thank VMA’s for making Miley relevant again cuz I assure u that basic ass “When i look at you” part 2 song would not be number 1 without it….

      • Twerk 4 Miley September 27, 2013

B**** you sound stupid! How did the vmas make her relevant? When We can’t stop peak at number 2 before the vmas even happened Miley was already slaying you dumb h** i know your mad that Mileys taken GaGas shine lol you cant handle it… Cacas old news…. Mileys that b****!

      • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

Who said anything about we can’t stop? We’re talking about the other song WB. The publicity boosted the sales of it obviously. How the VMA’s make her relevant?? Don’t make me laugh. She was on the brink of obscurity hadn’t not been for that stunt. Bye.

    • Rosie September 27, 2013

B**** I haven’t bother to log into this ghetto ass website in nearly a damn week and I’m still on you and the rest of the ape bottoms’ minds. The obsession is real with you f***.

      • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

And funny how u show up out of the blue when I mention which must mean u r reading which is no different. Lol

    • Slayty Perry (PRISM) September 27, 2013

      Lets compare though
Summertime Sadness was released last year compared to Applause that was released in August

Applause has received top notch promo while Summertime Sadness has had none

Lady Gaga uses to be relevant in the US while Lana never happened here.

      • Molly September 27, 2013

        clock ha!!!!!

        lana> gaga

      • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

It’s still doing better than Lana’s song tho and despite ur claim it’s such a flop it hasn’t fallen out of the top ten since it’s debut. So fail….

  4. Twerk 4 Miley September 27, 2013

Congratulations to Britney & the girls said work b**** was a flop it already outpeaked all of Beyonces 4s singles, & Mariahs beautiful lol

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

Girl bye. U can congratulate Flop B**** but biased against applause which is doing better. Have a couple seats.

      • Twerk 4 Miley September 27, 2013

Work b**** is a better song with a better production applause is so reductive… im sure when that hot s*** video for work b**** comes out the song will chart higher than flopplause….. hahaha!

      • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

B**** plz. It didn’t even last in iTunes tho. Even the Britney fans are saying she could have done better. Nice try. Better production? Not when it sounds like a rip off of “I’m s*** and I know it.” I don’t argue with opinions tho so have it ur way.

    • Beyhive September 27, 2013

Remember when femme fatales singles out peaked 4’s?
But then 4 outsold femme fatale in a shorter amount of time,? Lol

  5. LORDE STAN September 27, 2013

    Applause still flopping lol

    • GAGATHETRUTH September 27, 2013

      • Mark111 September 27, 2013

It is a flop, cause you b****** were screaming “#1!!!!!!!!” the first week. Just like the Spear Mints, your fave failed. Katy and Miley done great and with ease to get a #1. And Roar and Applesauce came out the same day. HA at Nana thinking she could ride Katy’s coat tail. Your b**** was flashing her ass for attention and a lil b**** with no ass out shined her.

  6. La Perra September 27, 2013

Lol! Lorde is the only real artist on that list.

    • Twerk 4 Miley September 27, 2013

  7. Barb 4 lyfe September 27, 2013

Not Miley slaying Gaga so effortlessly tho… Katys real competition is Miley not lady flopga..

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

And Garbaj hasn’t had a hit since Starshits and pound the floparm so sit, watch, and learn…

  8. Queen Brit Brit September 27, 2013

Yasss!! Queen Britney looking to add yet another top 10 hit to her string of hits! 13+ years later and still slaying. When will your favs? BTW, what happened to that one Eminem stan who thought he’d slay Britney? Only ahead by one position with sales, streaming and airplay behind it while Britney is charting solely from digital sales. LOLOLOL!

The Queen of the Charts Katy Perry is coming for that saggy ass Miley! Roar is holding strong on digital sales and streaming and #1 on Airplay. She’ll likely dethrone Miley unless Lorde climbs in airplay and streaming. I love a good chart battle 😀

  9. Slayty Perry (PRISM) September 27, 2013

I can’t hate, Miley is slaying. I thought Selena snatched her weave with Come & Get It after Cant Be Tamed flopped but she came back and snatched her weave back. Demi has faded into oblivion and Ariana is struggling to keep the hype going. Miley’s only competition is Taylor. Next week should be interesting with Roar #1 on Radio, Royals #1 on iTunes, and Wrecking Ball #1 on VEVO. I think Roar will take it’s third week at #1 since its #2 on VEVO and iTunes. Royals and Wrecking Ball aren’t even close to Roar on radio either.

Not surprised to see Work B**** underperforming. Britney doesn’t care anymore and neither does the public. Everyone thought Eminem would stop Katy too but that failed too.

  10. Molly September 27, 2013

I know it must kill GaGa stans to see Miley Katy & Some random b**** named Lorde slaying their fav like that lol you girls said applause would slay everything boy was that a lie…

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

And Cierror will never see a top ten hit so this conversation isn’t for u, Hun….

      • FAF September 27, 2013

        & 8 top tens later 😆

  11. Lorde is lord!!! September 27, 2013

When will ur flop fave????? 😆

  12. Rosie September 27, 2013

And as always it’s cute to see the Borde bandwagon trying it while Locals is only top 10 in 3 English speaking countries on iTunes. And absolute death @ the UK and the rest of Europe paying her dust.

    • Molly September 27, 2013

      lana couldn’t reach top 5? #oh

      • Rosie September 27, 2013

Cierror hasn’t had a top 5 in almost a decade though?

      • Molly September 27, 2013

Ciaras first single reached number 1 and lanas?? lol

      • Rosie September 27, 2013

And Lana’s album still outsold Cierror’s discography worldwide, oh?

      • FAF September 27, 2013

yassss stan more for Cici than that basic ducktale lookin gbitch !!

I know u was anticipating logging into TGJ to see ur fave mentioned (which she rarely is on anything RELEVANT)

      • FAF September 27, 2013

        looking ****

        DEAD @ molly

and LMAO @ the inflation when Ciara has a 3x platinum plaque in the US alone for her debut while 700k Del Gay could NEVER !!!!

        Im rolling over #DEAD

      • Rosie September 27, 2013

LMAO @ that inflation. F** bye. Cierror had yet to have a 3 million selling album. And kii @ your illiterate ghetto ass not understanding WORLDWIDE. Lana sold 5 million worldwide, Cierror could never.
You should be worrying more about him already falling off the Billboard 200 (where it REALLY matters) than about whether Lana is being posted about on some irrelevant ass poorly designed Urban music blog.

  13. JOHNVIDAL September 27, 2013

The amount of trash in this week´s hot100 top two is unbearable.
#nowplaying – “What an experience” by Janelle Monáe.

    • Molly September 27, 2013

Yet you live for number 8? girl bye applause is the worst song in the top 10 right now.

      • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

U live for cierror’s last three flop albums. U can only wish Ciara was in the position gaga is in so #next

      • FAF September 27, 2013

^ But Gaga doesnt even have a 3rd full length album , though?

LMAO Ill still wait for the sales on that one 😆 😆 😆 😆

Not looking too good for ya girl

        Ci sings R&B whats POPga’s excuse ? 😆

Tgj KEEEEEPS me in stitches 😆

Damn at robin thicke still being in the top five. Congrats to him.

  15. the truth September 27, 2013

Well done Miley Cyrus. Wrecking ball is a top pop song and deserves number 1

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

Stop lying. No it doesn’t and the video was trash.

  16. navy Nick September 27, 2013

u guys a re a hot mess…..I do wanna see Britney & GAGA higher, and EMINEM! love those songs! I love MILEY tho, she is killing it—cant even hate!!

  17. Lovebird (Prism – 10.22.13) September 27, 2013

Not tranny Caca being outdone by 300K can’t be tamed Mikey.

Tranny Caca wishing she was getting the attention Mikey is getting, so reductive.

Not Mikey having to grop Robin Thicke to get a hit, this whilst being Mike Will Made It’s s**** bank, with interest quadrupling everyday.

Two reductive whores, yawn. Glad Lorde, Katy and Britney are slaying though.

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 27, 2013

Britney charted below Gaga so ur invalid. Don’t wanna admit Gaga beat Britney….

  18. HOWYOULIKEIT September 27, 2013

So sad Lady gaga is not in the race this time.

    • LOL September 27, 2013

  19. Mark111 September 27, 2013

    I guess Britney’s single didn’t work, b****!

  20. Marcus Steward September 27, 2013

Where are all the spear heads? They were talking reckless a few weeks ago.

  21. Selenator September 27, 2013

Yay for Britney! I bet the video will take her to the top 10. Work B**** is a club banger! Sad how Miley had to go completely naked and m***** Robin Thicke for a #1. Cheap shock antics will get you a cheap #1. Glad her days on top are numbered. She doesn’t deserve it.

  22. Lovebird (Prism – 10.22.13) September 27, 2013

So I’m scratching my head, where the hell is Celine Dion’s flopping ass with her Flop me back to retirement song?

The French horn has blown her last distorted note, THANK GOD.

  23. Lovebird (Prism – 10.22.13) September 27, 2013

Not Celine FRAUDion lip syncing that FLOP ME BACK TO RETIREMENT song on every stage that could tolerate it only to not even make it on the bubbling under charts, I thought the French horn was a legend.

I guess it gets boring hearing the French horn sing karaoke on every CD.
