Now That You’ve Heard Them: Britney Spears’ ‘Work B*tch’ Vs. ‘Roar’ Vs. ‘Applause’

Diva domination is upon us!

As fans know, the last few weeks have seen the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus take turns ruling the Hot 100 with their respective efforts while pop veteran Britney Spears prepped her newest single for battle against the trio.

Now that the net has gone wild in response to the ‘Circus’ singer’s latest dance-heavy track ‘Work B*tch’, we want to know:

How does it stack up against the competition?

We asked you last week if you thought Britney’s forthcoming release would hold its weight against ‘Roar’ and ‘Applause’.  While ‘Roar’ has so far made the loudest noise on the charts (pushing nearly 600k of downloads in its first week and enjoying a two week reign on Hot 100 to date), ‘Applause’ has garnered it’s fair share of critical acclaim and buzz for its parent album ‘ArtPop’.

And, of course, let’s not discount pop princess Miley Cyrus’ whose newest tune ‘Wrecking Ball’ just set a VEVO viewership record for the most views in 24 hours. A feat, according to this report, that will boost it to next week’s #1 position on the Hot 100 (ousting Katy Perry).

Now, that you’ve heard it…have you changed your mind?  We expect the coming week to show us if Spears’ will trump Perry’s sales, but judging on sound alone:

Your thoughts?

      • …….. September 15, 2013

        Lady Gagarbage.

      • BeyQueen September 15, 2013

Gaga is an attention seeking idiot.

The flash in the pan will die out soon!

Her music is boring and predictable.

She has no talent so she goes for shock
        value.

And Monsters are the most universally despised stans in the world.

    • Tino September 15, 2013

      RIP Lady Gaga 🙁

      • Mimi4life September 15, 2013

        Gaga sucks and the worst.
This is what happens when talentless musicians take the stage. They need shock value in order to make up for how terrible they are musically.

Lady Gaga is the epitome of filth. She’s nothing but a role model for women with no self-esteem, and she believes everything she does is out of “art.”

Everyone knows she’s a new age Madonna. There’s so many trends in this world, and she’ll just be the flavor of the year. Then of course there will be some other p*** poor musician that will come in and take her spot light.

Lets just hope this happens soon.

      • POP-FAN September 15, 2013

Sorry but gaga is the most talented artist over here she has the vocals, she plays piano very well and she can dance too the other are good but cannot put on a good show britney lost her abilities and perry is a mess in live

      • irene46 September 15, 2013

        @ pop-fan 650pm…

these comments hating on gaga while praising these lessors show these people wouldn’t know real talent if they tripped over it. the woman can do all the things none of the others can without being overly produced or auto-tuned.

lady goofball shocked her audiance ?

      what a shocker..whats next ?
she reveals she is really an old gay man ?

  5. Ross September 15, 2013

What’s interesting about “Work B****” is that it sounds like everything on the radio AND like nothing on the radio at the same time. These dance anthems that are massive in the UK are just DJs, Brit’s the first mainstream artist to take the risk of putting her name to it….. It’s a fun track! She seems to be having fun with it again, it’s good to see… And anyway, comparing a house/EDM song to “Roar” or “Wrecking Ball” is never gonna work out lmao

    • irene46 September 21, 2013

i like ‘work’ but i love ‘applause’ so much more!!!

  15. POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] September 15, 2013

So Far We have Seen the Music Video for “Applause” and “Roar” and they Were “Boring” and “predictable” to say the least, so I Won’t vote for them , I didn’t like what they released.

    BASICALLY:

    LADY GAGA – APPLAUSE
    KATY PERRY – ROAR

BUT I’m yet to see Britney’s Video for “Work B****!” and I want to see what she gonna do in it, and The song, while not my Cup of tea and being a Mess of a song 🙄 , is the Kind of Song people Will like with Every Play on the radio, Britney Still has her fanbase Excited for her comeback too since “circus”, so…

My Vote is For Britney Spears.

  16. Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ September 15, 2013

Britney just hit today so we haven’t had an opportunity to let it soak in yet but, if I had to pick right now:

    1. Gaga- Applause
    2. Britney- Work B**** (GOOD song- loving it)
    3. Katy- Roar (I’ve only heard it once-generic as hell)

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 15, 2013

I definitely agree. Applause is a fun song. Don’t get y ppl are bashing it.

      • Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ September 15, 2013

Applause is absolutely a fun song. It’s the “beg” song mainstream Gaga fans wanted her to make.

        “Rock With U” by Janet.
        “I’m Addicted” by Madonna.
Then, listen to, “Work B****” by Britney.

THESE songs represent modern pop. The best as they come.

  17. SLAY_HIVE September 15, 2013

I really don’t care for either of them :/

    • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

Bey’s most generic tracks “RTW” easily slays these lessors!

    • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

But they all charted higher than that FLOP though.

      • SLAY_HIVE September 15, 2013

Bxtch the Generic charts are nothing to brag about, when Viley and LATEY Perry are topping it! Epitome of Generic! Like your taste in music

      • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

They are nothing to brag about because YOUR FAV CANNOT CHART ON THEM.

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 15, 2013

Don’t see how this is risky tho. If anything it sounds like it was recorded in 5 minutes. But cannot deny its a fun song.

  20. SLAY_HIVE September 15, 2013

Roar is the worst though! Im still shocked it’ s a number 1 single! It’s a shame whats tops the Hot 100/Generic 100 these days! Smh

    Talent is so unneccesary now!

    • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

What is shocking is the last time Beyonce had a #1 single, does she even know what that looks like anymore?

Roar slays the generic mess Beyonce tried to push. That run the world flop is what Satan plays in hell as a punishment.

      • SLAY_HIVE September 15, 2013

NO actually it’s not too shocking, because like ive stated..TheHot 100 has been Basic and Generic for the past few years!

And RTW actually had meaning, lyrics, VOCALS! ALL the things Basic Perry could NEVER deliver!

      • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

It’s basic to you because Beyonce cannot chart there.

      • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

And your fav is not?? Diva, Check on it, Run the world, Bow down??? Sounds basic and generic to me.

      • SLAY_HIVE September 15, 2013

Hun the difference between QUEEN Beyonce and your faves is that their ENTIRE discography is GENERIC! None of the people you stan for can sing!! Which is why they are stuck “singing” Generic songs

      • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

You mean like “stay” which slayed all your favs ballads?

      • SLAY_HIVE September 15, 2013

      • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

But the so called “nocalist” outdid your vocalist.

      • Beyhive September 16, 2013

they all make me want to throw up! The fact anybody thinks any of these songs are fire or original, etc….is a f****** joke!

It’s sad that it’s this kind of music that kids, teens, and gays want to hear these days.

Come on Adele. Show these generic basic b****** how it’s done!

  22. xedos September 15, 2013

So much hate towards gaga its just funny. Its ironic though because she is one of the few that stands up for equality and you just cant stand her wtf ?? She is a real talent like it or not.

    • Cream pie September 15, 2013

Just because she stands for equality doesn’t mean she is releasing good music. maybe she should just become an activist instead.

      • Slaydy Gaga September 15, 2013

Thats the thing she is not releasing bad music well maybe not as good as her past releases but still she isnt the worst.

Sound like y’all are upset over Beyonce . Hmmmm I wonder why?

Since when did Rihanna pick out her own song?

‘as if BEYONCE even writes or produces her tracks’

Moment: Beyonce Becomes First Black Woman To Win ASCAP’s Songwriter Of The Year Award
Over the course of her 16 years in the business, Beyonce’s literally done it all and continues to captivate. Growing into her roles as wife to Jay-Z and mother to baby girl Blue Ivy, folks shouldn’t forget that Queen B has been at this for a while. Back in 2002, the Destiny’s Child singer snagged ASCAP’s coveted songwriter of the year award. The songs she penned that gained her the top honor were “Independent Women Part I,” “Jumpin Jumpin” and “Survivor.” With an upcoming album, expect the Houston bombshell to reclaim her throne.

What were you saying again? Now pop you know better so you should do better.

      • RICHIE_RICH September 15, 2013

An executive producer (EP) enables and backs up the making of a commercial entertainment product. He or she is concerned with management accounting and possibly with associated legal issues (like copyrights or royalties).[1] They also contribute to the film’s budget, and do not work on set.[2]

Nowadays major record labels distinguish between an executive producer and the actual music producer. The executive producer is just responsible for business decisions, whereas the music producer produces the music. [7] Even so, sometimes the executive producer is supposed to substantiate the creative visions of featured musicians by managing the timetable including the employment of sound engineers or session musicians.[8]

An executive producer doesn’t mean you write or produce tracks. I swear you people reach for moon. Hence the reason she is always on FB, IG and Twitter. That’s her Executive producer alright.

      • Lovebird (PRISM – 10.22.13)) September 15, 2013

I never said an Executive Producer means you write or produce, you failed. An Executive Producer is like the Project manager of a record of film. An Executive Producer is the main boss in charge of that record of film, they make the final decisions.

An Executive Producer can decide which songs go on the record and which songs do not, so whether Rihanna write or produces her songs or not, she is in charge of the creative process.

Rihanna, as an Executive Producer, picks which songs go on the album, the theme of the album, visualization, imagery…etc, she makes the final decision as an Executive Producer.

That dismisses the whole “label s****” theory you tried to cook up, especially seeing that you brought up a wikipedia definition _/

  36. kat deluna *pop princess* September 15, 2013

Britney has the best song. Gaga has the worse.

    • POP ROYALTY [RUDE BOY] September 15, 2013

      hi @H2O.

  37. Michael September 15, 2013

Katy Perry has the most catchy song and it showcases her vocals more.. Britney sounds good but the production overtakes her vocals. Gaga… I just dont like that song.. It always seems like Gaga tries to come up with this pop chant songs… hey I guess plenty people like it, just not my cup of tea… While Miley is doing good numbers, I dont think she has yet proved herself to be compared to Katy, Britney, Beyonce, or Gaga… Maybe if she ever gives a serious performance then I will. But Miley does make GOOD music, just doesnt translate visually for me.

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 15, 2013

I think Roar is the weakest and it sucks we are comparing two dance/club songs with a inspirational type of song or whatever u wanna call it. It’s kind of a stupid comparison. If we were comparing Roar to any other inspirational song by the likes of Beyonce/Kelly Clarkson/ Christina Aguilera, Katy would lose by default.

  38. POP-FAN September 15, 2013

People in this site are kids or what the critic the artist they hate and praise the one they love that’s so ironic because all of the singles are good.
Gaga’s Single is a good dance song maybe her best alongside with Born this Way and Bad romance
Roar is a good pop song like the others katy realeased in Teenage dream for britney i don’t even listen to Work
and miley she is very talented “Wreking Ball” is a good ballad with lots of emotion the s** is just use to make people see her but that’s it

  39. RICHIE_RICH September 15, 2013

Beyoncé is an artist capable of whipping the world into an obsessive frenzy with just the slightest twitch of her hand—literally, she turned that very gesture into a global pop phenomenon—in turn bringing music listeners to their knees, bowing to her Tina-Turner-by-way-of-the-Tasmanian-Devil on-stage ferocity and star power.

    • Drew September 15, 2013

Ha I read this. Why don’t you comment more of often? I’m guessing its because you actually have things going on in life?

      • RICHIE_RICH September 15, 2013

  40. Lana the legend September 15, 2013

  41. Mark111 September 15, 2013

I don’t see this being my jam at home, but in the club? Yes!!!!! I thought she was gonna bring us Brit tho, every era she always “she’s gonna dance, she’s gonna sing.” and it never comes.

  42. JER September 15, 2013

Britney’s song is E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G honey!!!!!!!! I cannot believe BritneyBot5000 served us fire yet again. I cannot. My life is got

  43. Mary Mary stan September 15, 2013

None of the above!!! Xtina will destroy them all with her new era tbh

    • irene46 September 15, 2013

it would be possible if she got the media and tgj support she deserves but they don’t like her so it probably won’t happen.

  46. Mary Mary Why You Buggin’ September 15, 2013

    Take heed:

    “Rock With U” by Janet.

    “I’m Addicted” by Madonna.

Then, listen to “Work B****” by Britney.

Note: If your dance music isn’t at this level, don’t bother. Masterpieces.

  47. Lil Mo Stan and trey burkes husband (Kendricks d*** game wasnt on point) September 15, 2013

Lol at this post. I dragged beyhoece in the other post, but come on, now. Yall know sweet dreams, rtw(girls), and check on it slay everyone of these songs. I love Roar for the breakdown and last chorus, but Sweet Dreams and Whats my Name (I know. Random) will always be the hottest pop songs ever made. F*** the b*******!

  48. GRUMP September 15, 2013

As generic as britneys song is I cannotstop playing it. OMGGG

  49. Stop the drama Start the music September 15, 2013

Applause and Werk B**** wins my vote. They are both catchy and fun to dance to.
Sorry Roar is alright but Katy tried to do a Christina aguilera with an inspirational song and it was just boring and a fail.

  50. Nichole September 15, 2013

All 3 songs are f****** basic as hell to be honest.

    There are no real winners.

  51. C*NTY BREWSTER September 15, 2013

    I like ALL three songs.

But, let’s see the Work B**** video and live performance. Britney Spears at her best is better than any of these pop girls (Gags, Perry, K$, Cyrus). YES even when she’s lipsyncing! I’m talking back in the days when she actually tried. Le’ts see how this pans out.

  52. Sheesh September 15, 2013

    All 3 songs are terrible.
I mean Applause clearly has the better vocals of the 3, but it seems like a leftover that could’ve come from any other Gaga album.
Work b**** is a sad attempt of an artist past their prime trying to compete with the newer stars. There is no excuse, people are way past tired of the lame ass dance music and britney is a zombie as of late.
Roar is the lesser version of “Brave”, made by a way more popular artist..

If this is what we have to look foward to from all these ladies,I’ll buy songs I like from the albums and not the whole album.

    • Stop the drama Start the music September 15, 2013

Yeah that’s true that applause sounds like a leftover but I don’t mind. It’s still a good song. And it helps that Gaga’s vocals are really good on it.

  53. irene46 September 15, 2013

how unreal that the most untalented of the four is way ahead with the most votes. all of these crazy comments criticizing gaga, the one who can do it all better than the rest put together. her video is awesome (love the swan) and she can sing without being auto-tuned all to hell. she dance for real (miley needed to sit her non twerking ass down somewhere, plays piano and writes songs. i guess talent seems to be getting less and less important in the game. it’s now about who the media can mind f*ck the public into thinking who is worthy.

    • JOHNVIDAL September 16, 2013

      Exactly! It´s truly sad.

  54. Hamptonee September 15, 2013

  57. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! September 16, 2013

Katy perry Roar is my favorite!!

    Britney’s song is crap.

    Lady gaga’s song is okay.

  58. Selenator93 September 16, 2013

Britney is slaying everyone here in my office!
    Work B**** is mad!!!

  59. perhaps September 16, 2013

britney keeps giving more! love werk!

  60. JOHNVIDAL September 16, 2013

“Applause” obviously. No amount of delusions or kids can change the reality: Katy and Britney are basic as hell. Oh and “Loved me back to life” would be the other best song 🙂
Overall the ebst music released this month has been Janelle Monáe´s and John Legend´s new albums.

  61. MISHKA September 16, 2013

So Beyonce can’t say “beetch” but nobody minds Britney saying it. Mmmmkay.

“Wrecking Ball” is still better than anything else at this point.

  62. YourMom September 17, 2013

Stfu about Beyonce…she’s nowhere in this post because she is irrelevant at this point. When her single finally comes out then mention her. Damn..she is not the only artist out getting it and #WorknBitch////you crazy d*** riding h***.

  63. irene46 September 17, 2013

britney leading gaga in this poll only shows what little regard the public now has for true talent. gaga may be overly gimmicky and an attention w****, but she definitely has the talent to back it up. so much so i can ‘somewhat’ let her get over for the crotch kick she gave to chrisina’s career. now karma has reared it’s head and gaga’s being overshadowed by the over hyped female subject of this post whose career is kept alive by those continuing to resurrect her ‘t*** queen’ accomplishments. it’s pathetic that the media chose to focus on that sad stiff flat saggy assed performance put out by miley and ignored gaga who was amazing. britney’s song is surprisingly pretty good but she doesn’t come close to gaga…and never did.
