‘Do What U Want’ – the newest gem to be lifted from Lady Gaga‘s November 11th-due album ‘ARTPOP’ – has surfaced in full a day before its expected release.
Enlisting R&B royal R. Kelly to play assistant on the bass driven number, does ‘Do’ do the trick as an appropriate follow-up to the album’s megahit first single ‘Applause’?

Gaga is playing approximately no games with ‘ARTPOP’ if ‘Do What U Want’ is any indication of its content. For, while many discount and discredit the diva for her “gimmicks”, her talent can never be negated and the vocal demonstrations in ‘Do’ ring true as proof of that.
A suitable follow-up to ‘Applause’, ‘Do’ sees Gaga venture back into Urban territory to maximize play on many-a-format. Her new music video OMG isn’t art. It is an epic moronic hot mess and commercialism trying desperately to make her song so addictive, and it lacks all the warmth, emotion, depth and accessibility to a 18 -yo jobless teenager and Monster to watch YouTube. Applause is the 1st single and just imagine the rest of the songs in Artpop.

Forgive me everyone but I really like it. I like the Mariah-esqe vocals and R.Kelly’s part. Is everyone aware that iTunes album pre-orders affect singles positions? Everytime someone pre-ordered Artpop -Applause was credited with a single’s sale. Same for Do What U Want, and next week with Venus, and after that the next promo single.
Once the album is released, all of the singles “sales” will be deducted and instantly become album purchases through the complete-my-album feature. What this means is that Applause has been BUOYED all along by the pre-sales of the album. This is also why Do What U Want appeared to have strong sales from the start, but in reality, those were just the automatic downloads for people who had pre-ordered the album. In other words, next to nobody actually purchased the song as a single.
Watch and see when Venus blasts off on iTunes exactly the same as Do What U Want did, even without a single person buying it. And, the following promo single, rumored to be Dope, is also guaranteed to make a big splash on iTunes. It’s already “in the bag”. Afterwards, she will act all surprised by the “overwhelming” response to the tracks, even though it has absolutely NOTHING to do with actual single’s purchases…
Now, Gaga isn’t the only one who gets to take advantage of the ridiculous policy. Katy Perry’s album pre-sales also enhanced Roar and her two promo singles. The difference, of course, is that Roar would’ve been a huge hit even without the assist, whereas Applause has literally been kept afloat by the iTunes albums pre-sales. and would have vanished from the top a long, long time ago without them.
