While her US fans may have hailed the show as one of the greatest moments in her career, South African fans who attended Rihanna‘s first ‘Diamonds World Tour’ in Johannesburg have rocked her Navy’s boat with reviews some are billing the worst of her career.

Much like many a member of the general public, attendees of the show found themselves fooled- or rather fooled themselves- into buying tickets, convincing themselves that the star’s epic discography equated to her being an epic performer.
Unfortunately, as many have learned all too well over the years, that simply isn’t the case- with that discography being little consolation to any who were expecting energy, impressive vocals and the ‘wow’ factor the likes of Beyonce serve up with ease.

The tickets were bought for my anniversary I wanted to see Kendrick Lamar but he postponed (to my birthday month nonetheless) So Rihanna it was…I knew she couldnt really sing live so I wasnt that shocked on that part. Rihanna made history on Sunday night when she became the youngest performer ever to sell out the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. But South African fans will remember the show for another reason: Concertgoers were in an uproar post-show, complaining that Rihanna’s low energy and alleged lip-synching did not justify her high ticket prices.
“Ri-Ri Rip-Off!” blared the front page of The Star Johannesburg newspaper on Monday morning. Calling her performance “below-par,” the article cited “allegations that Rihanna was miming some of her songs, did not perform a single costume change, had not performed some of her biggest hits and lacked vitality.”
“It was obvious,” staff photographer Sharon Seretlo told the paper of RiRi’s supposed lip-synching. “You when when someone is lip-synching. I was in the Golden Circle [close to the stage]. I could see it.”

“I’m a die-hard Rihanna fan, but I was disappointed,” Seretlo continued. “It was like she didn’t give the energy we wanted from her.”
Fan Nicole Contini added, “… I don’t feel the ticket prices were fair considering the level of performance.”

Honestly, I am a Ri Ri fan, but I don’t feel sorry for any of the idiots that pay all that damn money to go see her. Her music is excellent and I even like her bad girl image from time to time; and the videos are great. But every time I YouTube her live performances….it pretty much lets me know not to buy a ticket to see her live! Unless I’m just wealthy and bored!!! Sorry fans you get no sympathy from me!!!
I am not a Rihanna fan but most of the people I know who went to her show said they loved it. It was what they expected. The people who hated it are those who refuse to let anyone other than Beyoncé be great. Beyoncé and Rihanna sell two totally different things. Bey is amazing but believe me when I say that what Rihanna does, no one can do it better than Rihanna herself. And when Bey has her moments when she tries to channel a bit of Rihanna’s style, she fails dismally just like when Rihanna tries to pull off a live show, the singing is not nearly as fantastic as Bey’s. Point is they can both coexist in the industry and both be good on their own merits. Stop comparing the incomparable.
