Watch: Kelly Rowland Shows Norfolk Her X Factor {Full Set}

Published: Sunday 3rd Nov 2013 by Sam

Kelly Rowland is currently nurturing tomorrow’s talent on FOX’s ‘The X Factor USA’, however that hasn’t halted her own music hustle.

The R&B belle took front, stage, center in Norfolk, Virginia this weekend, rocking the house with tracks including the 2011’s Platinum smash ‘Motivation’, ‘Like This’, and ‘Dirty Laundry‘ – which is lifted from the 32-year-old’s latest studio album ‘Talk A Good Game’.

Watch K.Row in action after the cut…

Vocally, this was a solid showing. However, we’re a bit jarred that Kelly cooled the choreography – opting to fall into it rather than all-out beast it.

Of course, as any seasoned performer will confess, dancing (hard) and singing at the same time is a magicians trick of sorts, one that is tough to master. Just look at the mass of acts who employ heavy backing tracks and pre-recorded vocals.

That said, we’ve long felt Kelly’s biggest strength lays in her ability as a complete Pop package. Put simply, she’s a performer. Hence, from our standpoint, every performance needs to be on-par with her BET and Super Bowl showings. Be at the VMA’s or at a nightclub in the A. Therefore, if the occasion calls for it, we want to see her whip out the wind, dominate like a diva, and if select performances would benefit from it…pre-record. For natural stage blazers such as Kelly, it should be all about the spectacle. All day , every day.

    Kelly needs to do more movies to make people interested in her other projects (Like a new album) and better marketing team.

      I also really think she’s a cool girl but I hope she does more R&B infused with pop and less EDM like she did with her last album. Her “Here I Am” album in my opinion was terrible.

      Her last album just wasn’t carefully dealt with properly, Dirty Laundry should of been the third single and she should of released “Stand In Front Of Me”, “Put Your Name On It” or “I Remember” instead.

      I think by now it’s clear Kelly doesn’t make music to be on Beyonce or Rihanna status, she does it cause she solely likes music. It’s her career and her path, comparing her to everyone else and calling her lazy is redundant at this point. Kelly clearly has aspects of her life that are more important to her than doing what Rihanna does who has no life outside her career….#justsaying

    Kelly’s vocals have definitely improved this era. I do after with Sam that I wish she would do more choreography. Sometimes it’s like she’s trying to be her own hype man on stage instead of just singing the song and inserting a little choreography in there. I wonder if she forgot how good of a dancer she is. I’m still waiting on Lose My Breath and Commander Kelly to return.

      the only decent act on that black girl rock stage was Ledisi, and jennifer hudson. the rest were all flops. that show is not for A list entertainers.

    Love Kelly! Less DC stuff or no DC at all! IMO I wish she would just focus on her current and previous albums! We all know she can dance but maybe she just wants to take it easy, esp with her hair in a bun (kinda out of place for a concert)nope she aint dancin too hard! lol

    Why can’t she ever have some production? Why can’t she hustle her own tour ? I mean hell even Brandy did shows. And IIII LOVE brandy but from a production stand point it was basic as hell. But at least she BEAST every f****** night!!!I mean come on Kelly you got to get out there . You want Diva Bitxch status then you gotta present yourself as one!If you only can headline a 3000 seater you better light that b**** up with production like MSG!!! I mean hell borrow some lights and video screen from your sis B if yall so tight. Arrrrggghhh I just want So much better for Kelly!

    Kelly is so basic and lazy it’s sad. Other R&B b****** would kill to be in that b****** spot. I will say her BGR performance was cute, but she’s still lazy and a disgrace.

  14. What? November 5, 2013

    Was Kelly sick or something? Her energy was non-existent. It was as if she didn’t want to be there or something. If they weren’t paying you enough for this gig, you should have said no, because once you step on that stage you’re expected to give your all. Appearance wise, performance wise and vocally. Kelly looked like she’d just done her soccer mom duties before jumping on stage with them overalls on and that top knot bun. She don’t have no kids. She had no band. Her performance was lackluster and her vocals while solid, were not the best that she could do.
    I wanted to go see her at the Howard Theatre in DC (live for the first time ever), but now I’m apprehensive, because if I pay money for THIS I’m going to be all sorts of T’d off.
