Published: Tuesday 31st Dec 2013 by Rashad

The annual “Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Eve festivity is happening as we speak on ABC.

With acts like Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, and Jason Derulo hitting the stage to ring in 2014, fans are glued to television sets Stateside to countdown the arrival of the New Year on each of the country’s coasts.

But, before viewers could get a glimpse of the night’s performers, ABC shared a special countdown “30 Greatest Women in Music” to honor and rank their favorite dynamic divas. While the expected entries like Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Barbra Streisand found interesting placements on the tally, it was their younger counterparts (i.e. Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga) whose appearances on the list polarized fans.

    Whitney THE VOICE Houston

The Greatest Singer Of All Time.

    That woman was something else.

She would take a song TARE IT APART & leave it for thew birds to nibble on…

    Whitney Houston: 1985
    (25,000,000+)Worldwide (13,000,000) USA

    Whitney: 1987
    (25,000,000+) Worldwide (10,000,000+) USA

Also, nippy paved the way for BLACK females. Being the first BLACK woman to sell out stadiums around the world not just in the USA…

The first woman to have her first 2 albums go diamond & sell 20+ million worldwide…

The only BLACK female that ALMOST has a 2x diamond selling album in America

  7. JARED (WHITE DUDE) December 31, 2013

Realistically speaking, the ‘Top- 10’ should be as follows:

    1) Ella Fitzgerald
    2) Aretha Franklin
    3) Diana Ross
    4) Madonna
    5) Tina Turner
    6) Dolly Parton
    7) Whitney Houston
    8) Mariah Carey
    9) Janet Jackson
    10) Gladys Knight

(Beyonce, Rihanna & Alicia Keys are NOT YET qualified for such a title although they are on their way)

Nonetheless, ‘Taylor Swift? Katy Perry? Lady Gaga? Celine Dion? Blondie (A Group)’? etc. LMFAO.

  8. iconic cici December 31, 2013

And trash swift at number 9 this list is the biggest joke.

  9. iconic cici December 31, 2013

Its a joke to see Rihanna in top 15 and Beyonce in Top 5 smh they just kiss those two h*** ass and im over it.

  10. RealNegro December 31, 2013

    Taylor Swift and Katy Perry….

  11. cierror December 31, 2013

    lol Slayriah where you at?

  12. RealNegro December 31, 2013

Dude she is ranked number1. Bye.

  13. applause December 31, 2013

They have Beyonce way to high maybe number 12-18 would be more accurate.

Congratulations GaGa you should definitely be higher than the basics (Katy Taylor Rihanna)

  14. Anne December 31, 2013

3 of my all time favs made the top 5: Aretha, Beyoncé, and Madonna! (Love Tina & Whitney too; also Chaka, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox, Tina & Diana.)

  15. Walllee December 31, 2013

WTF is this? Beyonce should be #1 or #2 at least. She literally is the BEST FEMALE PERFORMER ALIVE and one of the best vocalists EVER.
Lady Gaga should have definitely been in the top 20, Celine Dion shoud have been in the top 10 and Taylor swift shouldn’t even be on this list.. The rest of the list otherwise, is good.
I guess the list is more than Talent, but also sales, tours, live performances and influence in music that’s why it’s the way it is.
Anyway Congrats to my girls Beyonce Rihanna

  16. applause December 31, 2013

Beyonces music is f****** basic… she doesn’t deserve to be higher than number 10

  17. kchan January 1, 2014

I disagree with almost this entire list. Some of them are great, however where is Shirley Manson?

  18. MuiMui January 1, 2014

When I see where Madonna,Adele ,and Cline are listed ,this list is the biggest Joke this year
And almost as bad as the Grammy Committee.

  19. 2014 January 1, 2014

Taylor Swift above Queen Janet? And I’m surprised Madonna was #5…….

  20. Molly January 1, 2014

Beyonce shouldn’t be above legends like Mariah,Janet and Madonna smh i can’t take this list seriously at all.

  21. Stephy Tha Lambily January 1, 2014

Hey Jared, I loved your list. Excellent choices.

This my top 5 female artist EVER

    1.) Madonna: She defines ART/POP..

2.) Aretha Franklin: She is GOSPEL! Her notes in songs like AINT NO WAY & AMAZING GRACE are rare. She sanged from a place only a person that prays to GOD to the point that it hurts comes from… HER VOICE IS SOUL!!!

3.) Mariah Carey: Her voice WAS one of the most unique & unreal voices in all music history. Her songwriting also should be noted. Instead of just picking other people songs to sing. She took it a step further & pinned HER OWN CLASSICS unlike her peers… TALENTED, WELL WAS UNTIL NOW…. *CRIES*

4.) Whitney Houston: She simply SANGED!!! SHE JUST FLAT OUT SANGED!!! Also, a stunning woman…

5.) Janet Jackson: Her albums are just FULL LEGHTH POP MASTERPIECES.. She made 5 of the best Pop alubms ever. I think her tone & voice is soft/calming. She inspired a whole lot of girls with weak voices to still go after thier dreams…

  22. Al Oram January 1, 2014

Taylor Swift? Please. Not Enough Time In Life To Even Be ConsiderEd. What Joke!!

  23. Sarah January 1, 2014

    Where’s Britney?

  24. um January 1, 2014

where’s britney though? no way you do a greatest list and exclude her. regardless of what she is today, no one can deny that she was unstoppable from 1998 – 2005, on a level that had never been seen since madonna/mj, and none of her peers could even compete. her legacy far outwieghs so many of the b****** on this list..
love love love whitney and bey, but they are a bit too high on the list, just a little bit too high..
taylor swift for the f*** what?…
    that is all

  25. Amelia January 1, 2014

Whitney’s number UNO, now bow Dow b******

  26. Kelly January 1, 2014

This list is awful! Who compiled it? Where are Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Patsy Cline, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks…Heck, I would even vote for Kelly Clarkson as more proven than many of those placed on the list.

  27. MC!!! January 1, 2014

well atleast whitney is #1 they been trying her this year with these “list”

  28. Beefy January 1, 2014

No Streisand Really? It must be the “Rock n Roll” distinction because outside f “A Star is Born” she is not a “rock” performer but has be and still is the VOICE of a generation and clearly THE Greatest Star and best voice .. but I guess that was not the question

  29. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

MooMoo behind KING B??? LMFAO Where is Flopiah Tour de Flop. Your fav may have sold more but THE QUEEN WILL ALWAYS REMAIN ABOVE HER AS A ARTIST! And damn right H***. KING B should bey n the top 5! No other B**** under the sun can a SLAY A STAGE like her. #SUCK IT UP H*** AND HAPPY BEY YEAR

  30. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

R**** only got that far due to single sales. Other than that, her ass would of been outside the top 25 and Taylor lmaooooooooo. #NOT HERE FOR H***

  31. Vi January 1, 2014

How does Janis Joplin not make the list?

  32. Randy January 1, 2014

    Crazy without Carrie Underwood

  33. A***** January 1, 2014

    Where’s Britney???

  34. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

Death @ the pathetic human being that compiled the struggling mess that is this “list.”
A particular B***** is way too high on it when they shouldn’t even be on it period.

    @DIGGER H**

Let’s talk when Beyonce makes and album appear on the list of best selling of all time. You know… The lists that actually matter. Or when she has a single that has sold 14 million worldwide. Keep clinging to this irrelevant list like how you’ve been clinging to DC sales. Lol

  35. Britney stan January 1, 2014

How do they forgot Britney? smh

  36. mimi carey January 1, 2014

I don’t agree with Beyonce being so high she doesn’t deserve to be that high.

  37. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

The fact that Taylor Swift made the top ten while acts such as Shania Celine are all the way down in the 20s speaks volumes on how ridiculous this list. & not them thinking to their faves deserves to be higher than Madonna and Mariah when they have individual albums that have outsold their careers!

  38. mimi carey January 1, 2014

@DiggerBitch Oh so your more worried about Mariah then your own fake phony fav?

  39. Tony January 1, 2014

Easily the most ridiculous list I’ve ever seen, what fool came up with this terrible list.

  40. Queen B-Rocka January 1, 2014

    Where is Brandy???!!

  41. Jo January 1, 2014

..You have a problem with Celine being on the list at all yet you imply that Rihanna is on her way??? Really? Celine’s even extremely low on the list

  42. mimi carey January 1, 2014

How the top 10 list should have really been

    1.) Whitney Houston
    2.)Mariah Carey
    3.) Madonna
    4.)Janet Jackson
    5.) Barbara Streisand
    6.)Tina Turner
    7.) Aretha Franklin
    8.)Celine Dione
    9.)Shania Twain
    10.) Donna Summer

Beyonce and Taylor swift shouldn’t even be in the top 15 tbh

  43. mimi carey January 1, 2014

What impact has brandy made tho? she had like two successful albums fallback.

  44. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

And death at Mariah and her lamb (me) being the first two people Digger H** is stressing about on January 1st, 2014. STAY MAD B*****! No diamond plaques for your ratchet ass!

  45. Amanda Bynes January 1, 2014

No disrespect but your gravatar it should be Mariah Carey’s picture next to Miss Piggy tho. Still living in the past hun?

  46. ffgh January 1, 2014

I don’t like her. She is a bad influence to young people today.

  47. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

LMFAO @Flopiah Tour de Flop Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeth on H** lmfaooooooo. Theres a NEW LEGENDARY B**** ON THE BLOCK AND HER NAME IS BEYONCE GISELLE KNOWLES CARTER! I suggest u get to BOWING. Since ur fav MooMoo has already. #HAPPY BEY YEAR

  48. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

Not when their fave is Lindsay Lohan’s understudy though. Lol. The queen still has bums pressed in 2014. When is the next court date Hun? What kind of wig is she gonna show up in this time babe?

  49. Marco January 1, 2014

How are Britney Spears and Barbara Streisand not on here?! Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani should definitely be higher, and Taylor Swift should not be on here at all.

  50. Susan January 1, 2014

    And what about STEVIE NICKS???

  51. ShyaRocks January 1, 2014

    WHAT ABOUT SADE????!!!!!

one of the greatest female singers of all time.

  52. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

    *Ignores it*

Just like the RIAA ignored it’s fave from the diamond certifications club.

  53. Slayty (Selling out the O2 Arena 5 times on the same tour) January 1, 2014

Beyonce before Madonna? Gwen Stafani being listed and not Carrie Underwood Robotney? Cyndi Laper ahead of Celine Dion? Gags shouldn’t be on the list either, not when Madonna’s already up there. Dead @ her being below Katy and her stans being pressed though.

  54. Michael January 1, 2014

    what about Barbra Streisand???

  55. Amanda Bynes January 1, 2014

Let us all be realistic hun. Did you watch Mariah’s performance on New Years Eve with Carson Daly? She looked fat and has a boxed shaped body. Don’t worry about Amanda she will be back better than ever. @SlayriahCarey

  56. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

Moooriah is lower than Iconic Beyoncé yassssssssss!
Taylor is a legend already selling out stadiums in the USA something pigriah will never do!!!!!
    Where’s the Pigs tour? Yeah
The Pig remains eating bacon with its basic overrated Vocals. WHITNEY is the Queen no piggy…
Legend X deserved to be after Whitney tho

  57. mimi carey January 1, 2014

Taylor basic ass shouldn’t be on the list period how does she have fans? shes beyond corny.

  58. Slayty (Selling out the O2 Arena 5 times on the same tour) January 1, 2014

Sam can you make it so we don’t have to type in our info everytime we log on? My email+screen name are too long for that, and I keep getting it wrong

  59. Marco January 1, 2014

I would’ve added Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Barbara Streisand, Carole King and MAYBE Avril Lavigne somewhere on there. I would’ve taken out Adele and Taylor Swift tbh. Adele should NOT have beaten Cher, Gaga and Gwen.

  60. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

YES!!! You lesser Stans better cling to this irrelevant list?? Has any of Failors albums sold 20 million worldwide? Death.

  61. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

Katy deserved to be on the list Prism > Artflop

Not the mooriah stan coming for legendary Taylor swift!!
Taylor Swift debuted 1,3Million first week something mooriah will never achieve or do. Taylor has fans because her recent Album RED is Double Platinum. When was the last time Pigriah had a platinum album or top 10? 50 years ago? Yeah

  62. dark horse January 1, 2014

This list isn’t meant to be taken serious when you have Beyonce ahead of Madonna Janet & Shania

  63. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

Mariah could be built like a family-sized Frosted Flakes cereal box and I couldn’t care less. She is married, has children, and is one of the most successful musicians of her time. Everytime I see her she is smiling & having a good time with Nick and the kids. She isn’t being dragged through court day and night and making controversial headlines for all the wrong reasons like your fave. And let’s not when we know Amanda’s career is a bigger struggle than when Taylor Swift attempts to sing live.

  64. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

Mimi Carey Fawk u b****. U mad also about Moofausa BOWING to THE QUEEN?? MooMoo Lames always bring up sells. When critics don’t care about sells. They look at the whole package and that’s why MooMoo remains a Lesser B**** under THE QUEEN. #SORRY LAMES

  65. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

We are talking about the present leave the inflated numbers of the past…
Right now every b**** is making mooriah look like a p**** she is….
Mooriah will never see a platinum album again
I think she should lip synch her way to the exit door she’s done!!

  66. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

You should have watched the Victoria Secret Show!! Queen Taylor Sang LIVE? I know live and mooriah don’t mix lmaooooo
The Queen is getting Positive reviews from critics about her Tour!!!
Suck a big diick hater haaaaaa!

  67. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

And how many d**** has Taylor’s p**** consumed in her lifetime. 10? 50? 100? The BXTCH is more used up than Kim Kardashian. How are the gonna call Rihanna the #IndustryPussy when Taylor has literally opened up her legs for everything and everyone to enter.

  68. Amanda Bynes January 1, 2014

It’s not okay to make fun of other artist when your fave can’t even lose weight. Just worry about PIGrahia’s box shaped body.

  69. Honeymoon Avenue January 1, 2014

Lol why is Gwen Stefani on here? How did she make the list and not Barbra Streisand? Celine Dion should switch places with Taylor Swift imo. Taylor hasn’t been out long enough to be top 10. Glad Whitney is #1 though, she’s the greatest singer of all time. Glad Xtina is up there too.

  70. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

Yes, Taylor sings live, too bad she can never sound good. Sounds like she by tryna remake the Texas Chainsaw Massacre with those struggle ass vocals. Ke$ha wants her vocal chords back BXTCH!

  71. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

Why bring rihoena to this? This is about the Pig mooriah stop bringing other artists to this.
At this point Rihanna Live shits on Mooriah…

  72. THEMAN January 1, 2014

@Digger stop hating. U are clinging to this irrelevant list. Holla when Beyoncé does something groundbreaking.. MC has literally broken every damn record. She looked quite good on the Carson countdown. Go keep up with Beyoncé’s ploys and stunts. Lol @ Nasa calling her out…. Then she said it was the producers/writers issue. Wait, didn’t she toss her name on the writing credits. Lol she loves to strong arm….. She writes simple shyt like “Bootylicious”.. “SESAME STREET JINLES” LOOOOOOOOOOOL

  73. Slayty (Selling out the O2 arena 5 times on the same tour) January 1, 2014

    Katy is @ #20 @TaylorSwift

  74. THEMAN January 1, 2014

“JINGLES” and she needs a team for that..

  75. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

Not a Mariah Stan coming for Vocals… You faves vocals are no where to be found? She doesn’t sing live? Her body is fat and box shaped? Her singles are Flopping, how’s ART OF FLOPPING on charts doing? Everything this cow touches becomes a Flop even American Idol flopped because of her basic critique and dull personality…
That biitch is musically dead she is the next S****** Spears…

  76. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

The Same way your ass was bringing up Whitney and Christina? Is Lotus certified triple dirt yet? Go worry about Taylor getting her v***** back to it’s normal state and not the worn out mess that it is now.

  77. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

Atleast she’s higher than FlopGaga …

  78. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) January 1, 2014

Yes, my fave is fat and boxed shape but your fave’s v***** is wide enough for her entire body to fit in it. Who knows… Maybe Mariah and her daughter could pull up a table and a few chairs and have a tea party in that Bxtch box.

  79. Slayty (Selling out the O2 arena 5 times on the same tour) January 1, 2014

How is a Beyonce fan going to call Mariah a lessor when she’s superior to The Thief in every way, shape, and form? Mariah has 18 #1s, how about Bey? Mariah writes her own music, how about Bey? Mariah produces her own material, how about Bey? Mariah has diamond albums, does Bey? Mariah has classic songs/albums that have lasted over 20 years, how about Bey? Mariah is considered the best technical singer, what about Bey? Answer these questions before you try it.

  80. Taylor Swift January 1, 2014

Mariah Carey is disgusting just looking @ her makes me vomit…
Payola is the reason why this biitch was successful back in the history.
Why is JLO so hot @ 43 but mariah looking older than JLO and Madonna? Mariah is fat pure fat

  81. Nancy January 1, 2014

@SlaytyPerry Lmao go in Mariah will always be superior to Beyonce.

  82. Faith (16 years old) January 1, 2014

Now yes, I do admit that Beyonce a very good performer. But I believe that this list was made based on their vocal ability, their originality, their authenticity, and their legacy. Beyonce will be close to Whitney, but never on the same level or above her (based on these categories).

  83. Beyond Amazing (Cause Bey really is!) January 1, 2014

Ok now I do love me some Beyonce but she should not be higher than Madonna, Janet, and Mariah. Those are legends, Bey’s getting there but not yet, give her a few years. And Rihanna, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, and Adele being on the list, really??? No. Where is Patti Labelle, Celine Dion, Sade, and other female legends. What a rigged list.

  84. Faith (16 years old) January 1, 2014

    And where is Patti LaBelle???

  85. What??? January 1, 2014

    No Toni Braxton?

  86. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

The Man….Answer the phone b****? I just wanted to tell u THE QUEEN released her album with no hype, no singles playing on the radio. Nobody knew it was coming but it broke itunes record. As the fastest selling album ever. Well i just wanted to let u know musicians such as Snoop Dogg, Diddy, critics and other stars called it game changing aka “groundbreaking”. Nice try though C*nt. I would rather take their word since they’re n the music business and the critics study pop culture. #NICE TRY THOUGH LAME

  87. JJ January 1, 2014

  88. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

Lmao Not an Katy Basic S*** Stan coming for THE QUEEN??? Chile stay out of grown folks business. Your fav and u belongs n the kitty section n Ronald McDonald house b****.

  89. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

Flopiah tour de flop have the nerves to talk about females luving d***. Chile not when MooMoo wanted Em to stick his penis up her nose, ears and mouth. I guess Em said he don’t do barn animals. I can’t @MooMoo stans “clinging ” to sells again. Lets see. I have seen over 10 list of the greatest females of all time over the past 5 years. Six out of ten has THE QUEEN over MooMoo. I’m not the clinging to anything Lames. The musicians and critics are the ones clinging to Moofausa isnt that Diva from back then. The b**** can’t sing anymore. She’s known as Struggliah now. So why should anybody even put her n their top ten????? #POOR DELUSIONAL LAMES

  90. DIGGER BEY January 1, 2014

I know it must “PAINS” & “URKS THE S***” out of The MooMoo Lames how Madonna and Whitney remains UNBOTHERED after all these years. While Moofausa has slid n the DUMPS. #POOR DAT

  91. Ha! January 1, 2014

Everytime they come out with these list the insecure stans come out and say this person should be here or there. The list looks fine to me,so what if an artist has a diamond album,Janet is only remembered by stans and old heads,Mariah whose “Diamond” album is due to shipments hasn’t had the impact of Beyonce or Rihanna and if you argue that, you don’t get it. No one cares about her 18#1’s she got based off airplay and payola, only the lambs care about those false album sales btw.
This list is just a general list, get over it or create your own… If Janet’s could perform so well she would have a tour out gross Beyonce or Rihanna tour, she hasn’t and she never will.
@the Ciara stans “What you thought your basic ass fave deserved to be listed?
People give Mariah and Janet way too much, when their tour attendance has never matched their so called sales. If these artist are so much better why can’t they tour? Janet and Mariah started the smoke and mirror trends you see today!

  92. Nikki January 1, 2014

I KNOW THAT’S RIGHT ^ thank you for tellin these young kids what good music is and who the Greatest Singer is! Smh all these other “singers” need to have several seats!
Whitney Houston, The Greatest. Singer. Ever.
forget tha rest of these lames lmco

  93. JOHNVIDAL January 1, 2014

LOL well at least they have Whitney The Voice Houston as their #1!
But the rest is a mess the moment you allow Taylor Swift to be in the top10 lololol. Rihanna and many others shouldn´t even appear. The list is irrelevant anyway, probably done by a couple of people and their personal taste.

  94. JOHNVIDAL January 1, 2014

Even though this list is irrelevant I want to say people are going to forget Britney really fast. I´ve always say it. If you don´t make a big impact in your peak based on outstanding talent, you will be forgotten. Same will happen to Rihanna. No matter how many #1 singles. Without something big behind you won´t survive. Michael and Whitney are legends for a reason, will never be forgotten.

  95. J.E January 1, 2014

TaylorSwift above Christina, Celine, Adele, and Shania.. Hahahaha Joke!

  96. nu-uh hunny January 1, 2014

Taylor Swift is amazing. The amount of sales and success and awards and talent is just wow. ok. I don’t know what you’re going on about. Don’t be so delusional.

  97. nu-uh hunny January 1, 2014

Maybe because Taylor Swift is actually one of the greatest women in music… You try be this talented and successful at the age of 24. Then come back and tell me it’s a joke.

  98. nu-uh hunny January 1, 2014

You’re getting your v***** back onto normal state and we don’t need to know. But if you really do believe that Taylor Swift is really in that state then you need to go into rehab and rethink your life choices…
Just because you read a gossip site doesn’t mean it’s true. If you read something like ‘goats are starting to breed fish’ are you going to believe that? Probably will.

  99. nu-uh hunny January 1, 2014

If Taylor Swift cannot sing live please tell me how she got this famous and successful. Tell me how she has millions of fans praising her beautiful voice, tell me how she sold out all her shows on her tour last year (2013), tell me how she got 7 Grammys. You shouldn’t be talking unless you can do better.

  100. nu-uh hunny January 1, 2014

Taylor Swift writes her own music.. if this was based on sales and tours and live performances then Taylor has the right to be on this list. I mean sold out ALL HER SHOWS in the north american leg of her Red tour, broke 2 world records with digital sales.. all this success links back to when she started writing songs and all she needed to get this famous was her guitar and her talent.

  101. RoyalKev January 1, 2014

Yes, Yes & Yes. Nippy was truly something rare and special. I miss that woman, I still get choked up thinking about her! She will always have a very special place in heart.

Yessss at Bey coming in at #4, the woman is iconic (damn near legendary) and she’s one of the greatest performers I’ve ever seen.

I’m pleased with Janet making the list, but sometimes I wish she’d slay with another era just to remind people why she should NEVER be excluded from making the top 5!Janet is a F**king Queen!

I respect the list for having a lot of talented names on it (Tina, Mariah, Christina, Diana, Celine, Shania, Aretha). it’s filled with MAINLY worthy artists that truly are the greatest musical stars ever, so I wouldn’t have much to say that’s negative.

  102. Lolz January 1, 2014

Haha not everyone sees the Halo above Mariahs head you do. This list is decent.

  103. STEVIE NICKS January 1, 2014

STEVIE NICKS!! How can you have a list of the greatest women in music without having Stevie Nicks. Her contribution to music is always overlooked. She fronted one of the greatest rock bands in her time when a strong women in rock was unheard of. She then goes on to support a successful solo career. She was a trend setter and never settled for just being a pretty girl. She’s a poet, songwriter, and a survivor. Women in the music industry look up to her and she needs to be recognized.

  104. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! January 1, 2014

Well deserved that place in the top 10 for Taylor Swift! She has a lot of hater, but boy do us swifties support her!

Watch out for Taylor’s new album, this year hopefully!

  105. Roderick January 1, 2014

You have a good list. I would switch Diana Ross with Gladys Knight. Where was Toni Braxton who is way better than Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Rihanna.

  106. Roderick January 1, 2014

Beyoncé does write music for herself and Destiny’s Child.

  107. Ilovebeysoshouldu January 1, 2014

Congrats bey!!! Remember she woke up like this!!!!flawless!!!

  108. Jo January 1, 2014

Agreed! You nailed the missing names, except you forgot KD Lang and Melissa Etheridge — maybe Gays aren’t allowed on the list.

  109. Jo January 1, 2014

My reply above was to Kelly, who said “This list is awful! Who compiled it? Where are Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Patsy Cline, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks…Heck, I would even vote for Kelly Clarkson as more proven than many of those placed on the list,”

  110. Kathy January 1, 2014

Did I somehow miss Chrissie Hynde or did “they”?

  111. Mike January 1, 2014

I completely agree with your post. I would add Joan Baez, Mary Travers, Grace Slick, Mama Cass. and Joan Jett to your list.

  112. Katie January 1, 2014

Karen Carpenter had the greatest voice of any on this list. She was also the first female drummer of any repute. She should be number 1.

  113. DJ January 1, 2014

Their decisions were questionable. I’m really not sure what they were thinking with about half of that list.

  114. Bitchplease January 1, 2014

@Marcus Bytch! dont!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What goes around comes around! @Beyhive Yall dumb bytches keep cursing your queen and see where she end up!

Whitney Houston living or dead #1

  115. James Ryan January 1, 2014

They shouldn’t have included current singers because they are still proving what they have no way taylor should be on the list and have greater singers excluded

  116. bhols January 1, 2014

you make your list meaningless when you add no talent gutter trash like beyonce and mariah

  117. Saraboomalottie January 1, 2014

Um. Why in the HELL is Shania Twain on this list? And Taylor Swift? Puhlease…

  118. Flora January 1, 2014

I was surprised that Cher was so far down on the list and that Taylor Swift made the list but Loretta Lynn wasn’t even on it. I agree that Madonna, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner should be at the top.

  119. Saraboomalottie January 1, 2014

Let us remember this was 30 greatest women on THIS SHOW. Not of all time or in regard to anything else…..

  120. Simm January 1, 2014

whatever your just mad that your favorite wasn’t number 1 lol!!!!!!

  121. TinaMinaj January 1, 2014

Lmao at the meltdowns in this post. Obviously it’s a few people’s opinion and doesn’t reflect the reality in its totality.

  122. booty apple pie January 1, 2014

where is Barbra Streisand. The best of them all.

  123. Howard January 1, 2014

Blondie is a band. Her name is Debbie Harry as ABC should know since they had her on the show last night.

  124. K_su January 1, 2014

I agree. I’m sure they had limited time, but where’s Heart’s Ann Wilson?

  125. kiddle January 1, 2014

Okay, this list is pure s***. The only thing that I’m happy about is that Whitney’s #1 because she deserves to be, but where the f*** is Aaliyah? Like, she deserves to be on this list, the top 15 at least.

  126. Cindy January 1, 2014

Celine Dion at the end of the list? She is comparable to Mariah Carey for sure. She may not have as many number 1’s but she has one of the best female voices ever!! And no Stevie Nicks?? Seriously??
And I don’t particularly care for Barbara Streisand but come on she is a legend with a timeless voice. Also think kd lang and Melissa Etheridge were overlooked. I don’t think this was a good comprehensive list at all!!

  127. Samantha Weaver January 1, 2014

I get they have A LOT of singers to pick from but for 30 BEST ever to include taylo swift??? WTF??? Where in the heck is JOAN JETT?? And fyi Rockin’ Eve…Blondie is a Band! The woman’s name is Debbie Harry…I don’t even like blondie and I’m fully aware of that…why aren’t the people thst put this together??

  128. Marc January 1, 2014

Honestly, your list makes a hell of a lot more sense than that farce ABC gave us last night (although Billie Holiday really needs to be in there somewhere). If you look at the whole picture and consider each singer’s combination of sales, longevity and overall influence on popular music, this list feels just about right.

To Beyoncé fans…look, I get it. She’s the Queen B right now and has been very successful for over a decade. She IS well on her way, and if you want to put her near the bottom of the Top 30 right now, go nuts. No f***ing way she merits being #4 ahead of Aretha Franklin and Madonna.

  129. Marc January 1, 2014

BTW, my post was a reply to Jared (White Dude). Why the hell would this site ask me to reply to a message but NOT link it with the message I was replying to in the first place?!

  130. Steve January 1, 2014

  131. Rob Moitoza January 2, 2014

Where’s Billie Holliday, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Gladys Knight… and on and on?!! Taylor Swift over Ella? Hardly! And Whitney couldn’t even stand in the same room with Aretha Franklin. Whoever put this list together is a musical moron! Check your history, dude!

  132. Oh No You Didn’t! January 2, 2014

Oh hunny, I feel you on this one. Whitney is the greatest vocalist for me. In due respect to Ms Franklin and Ms Fitzgerald, Whitney is just something. She gave something that no other female vocalist did before. She was the “blueprint” for all the vocalists that came after her (Including Mariah Carey). I couldn’t be more pleased with the result of this poll. Cheers to that!

  133. FierceRokstar January 2, 2014

OMG I was just thinking that… like wth??

  134. Sarah January 2, 2014

I see y’all are pressed because Beyonce is in the top 5 where she belongs. If y’all would stop comparing her and mentioning in the same sentence as the post-2000 basics that all idolize her, maybe it wouldn’t come as such a surprise.

  135. shelya January 2, 2014

yall people are so blinded by record sales… selling 100 000 000 doesnt make you great okay? it makes you popular. this list is about talent. and to the ones saying beyonce music is basic le tme remind you dat her last album got a 85/100 mark on Metacritics which means CRITICAL ACCLAIM. I bet you never listen to a single whole beyonce album. her music (while not the absolute best) is on the same level than Mariah Carey or JANET. beyonce can dance, can sing with a lot of incorporation of dynamics (watch 2004 grammy performance of Dangerously in love), she can give you life with a 3 minutes live performance, ….. even if Mariah got the best range ever she can’t dance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaN2TbWMvuw

  136. Dodo January 2, 2014

You must be her mother. The woman is way overrated. Her songs are borrrrriiiing just like her I’m ecstatic that she is not in the list

  137. waterfalls January 2, 2014

    33. Dionne Warwick
    34. Patsy Cline
    35. Karen Carpenter

yes but Janet Jackson deserves to be on this list. She’s not the best vocalist but she did true classic album ( control rn1814, velvet rope , janet.) and she is a great performer

  138. Camilo January 2, 2014

    Thank you!
Finally someone speaking some sense here.

This list (the one on the website, not yours…I agree 90% with yours) was clearly put together by someone with very little knowledge of music or was simply put together to please teenagers. Like you said…Blondie is not even a person lol, Debbie Harry is the voice there.

I would add Billie Holliday to your list instead of Janis Jackson but the rest I agree with:)

  139. STEVIE NICKS January 2, 2014

  140. Brad C. January 2, 2014

Lol, list is an absolute joke!

30 Greatest Women in music and you don’t include Britney Spears?! I call Bull$#!%.

Like her or not, Britney is often referred to as the “Princess of Pop” and most of the women on this list wouldn’t be who they are today if it weren’t for her record sales and record accomplishments in the industry.

She is one of the most Awarded artists of all time!

She has been nominated for 444 awards and in which she has won 312.

She is the 5th best selling female artist of all time!

She also holds the title to multiple Guinness World Records:

    • Best Selling Album by a Teenage Solo Artist – …Baby One More Time
    • Fastest Most No. 1 Singles by a Teenage Female Solo Artist
    • Best Selling Teenage Artist of all time
    • Most Searched Person on the Internet (2003–2009)
    • Youngest Female Artist To Have SIX ( Femme Fatale is the latest) of Her Albums Reach #1 On The Music Charts.
    • Youngest female musician to have the most US number 1 albums in music history.

Her second album “Oops I did it Again” is the second biggest debut week for an album by any solo artist, EVER!

She is statistically the most famous person in the world of the new millennium.

She was the first musician to reach number 1 on Forbes 100 most powerful celebrities list.

She was the youngest celebrity (not just musician, CELEBRITY) to ever have a star on the walk of fame!

She has the most retired #1 music videos ever, she has 15 retired #1 music videos!

Britney was the youngest female artist to have her first three albums debut at #1, a record that was later broken by Spears herself with her fourth album Debuting at #1.

She was the youngest female artist in history to have 5 albums debut at #1 which is a record that was also later broken by Spears herself with her seventh studio album Femme Fatale.

So, how she isn’t listed in the top 5 of this list is an absolute joke and a shame on anyone involved in creating this laughing stock of a list.

  141. Karen Patenaude January 2, 2014

How on GODS GREEN EARTH did Patti Labelle and Ann Wilson of Heart not make the list? I am appauled! Aretha Franklin? The Queen of Soul not even up here? Are you KIDDING ME? Minnie Ripperton? Who Mariah can only come close to??? Janis Joplin and YES, even BRIT! She paved the way for the “other” acts (ie – Christina, Lady GaGa and Pink!). Who can forget CHER? She had the whole FLASH OUTFIT thing before ANYONE (well maybe Grace Jones came close!). Stevie Nicks, def. a legend as well!!!!! Joni Mitchell?? Icon, Carole King? Icon! Those women could WRITE for other women AND be succesful with their own! Dionne Warwick? Patsy Cline? Reba…. I could go on for DAYS…this list is NOT right!

  142. waterfalls January 2, 2014

as female artist, I also put missy elliot and lauryn hill

  143. Carlos January 2, 2014

  144. owen January 3, 2014

where are sarah vaughan and billie holiday? They r just as good as ella and aretha( OK maybe ella really outstand the rest 3.). It’s hard to hear the endless sense of crisis and Nihilism in voices after “new wave”

  145. Mettetee January 3, 2014

Why are ya’ll even complaining so much about the list?? You think your opinions really matter???
Of course ya’ll would love to see your favs above anybody (and that’s bias).
This list was made by peers in the music industry who are neutral and don’t cast their votes upon favoritism.
And this is not the first time that Beyonce appears in the top 5 of greatest women in music. On the Vh1’s list of 100 greatest women in music, Beyonce was #3 and that list is different from this one. This just shows that Beyonce is really one of the Greatest women in music, with no arguments

  146. Roger January 6, 2014

No Janis? No Stevie? No credibility!!

  147. Mackenzie January 10, 2014

No Stevie Nicks?? No Janis Joplin? This list is seriously, seriously flawed. Where would Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, etc. be without these legendary artists?

    • Mackenzie January 10, 2014

I said the same thing as the commenter above me, oops! Just goes to show how important these women are

  148. digs January 20, 2014

Cyndi Lauper should certainly be ahead of Celine Dion. She had much bigger anthem hits, she paved the way for people like Celine who steals her hit “I Drove All Night” and RUINED IT. not to mention she also took Cyndi’s part in the CLASSIC “We Are The World”. Celine is obsessed with Cyndi Lauper. look up Celine Dion + Girls just want to have fun…she even dyed her hair orange and tries to dress like Cyndi.
I do agree that Katy Perry shouldn’t even be on this list.

  149. Lewa February 7, 2014

As long as WHITNEY “THE VOICE” HOUSTON is number ONELewa

  150. Anahi April 12, 2014

y xq a gwen la dejaron en ultimo lugar? ella es la mejor y se merece estar en las primeras 10!

  151. Maria Martin April 15, 2021

Celine Dion is the only vocalist with 2 doctorates in music!
1 from Laval University of Music in Canada in 2004.
The 2nd from the prestigious Berklee College of Music 2021!
    And she’s listed at 28?

    The shame of this list!
