Could Usher be cooking up another ‘Confessions’ sized smash?

Who knows. But what is certain is that the singer has called on the man who helped craft the diamond selling LP, Jermaine Dupri.

Taking to Instagram, JD shared a snap of himself in the studio with the stage blazer – who was there for a writing camp for his new project.

Mr Raymond’s most recent album ‘Looking 4 Myself’ found so-so success upon release in 2012. With a new movie on the horizon and a return to The Voice nigh, the crooner has the right “setup” for a comeback. All he’s tasked with doing is pairing it with powerful material and he’ll be winning.

Ok usher I see u!!!! No pop mess please !

  2. ok January 22, 2014

ZZZZzzzz.. that hobbit is so 2004.. Hopefully Usher is also working with fresh new talent, cause Confession 2.0 wouldn’t really do much for him in today’s music.

  3. LAX January 22, 2014

Yesss I agree Leave the Pop mess to someone else.. Time for some REAL R&B back to Confession

  4. Rihanna Lately January 22, 2014

I hope he delivers.. I like him a lot .. He’s the best RnB artist ever he can really deliver.
If he does pop music all over again I’m done.
He can bring RnB back not t********* , Cierror and all these lessors.

  5. Her January 22, 2014

No one wants to hear a Confessions 2.0! That was 10 years ago. That sound is dated and tired. He was going in the right direction with “Climax” but dropped the ball HARD.

  6. rnblove January 22, 2014

    Can’t wait…THE KING!

  7. Absolved January 22, 2014

Actually, everyone wants to hear Confessions part 2. It’s what his fans have been asking for for years. He went “pop” with his last album and you see how well that junk was(n’t) received. He lost more than 1/2 his base and you cheesy progressives who want something “new” and not “tired” weren’t enough in number to pick up the slack. That’s right, Usher…give us another album of “U Got It Bad” and “You Make Me Wanna”. We not hear for that gay ass pop s*** like “Scream”, or that wack ass “alternative R&B” like “Climax.”

These artists need to learn that if something ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  8. hmmmm January 22, 2014

I want to believe that Usher will return to his R&B(Rhythm&Blues, wtf is a Rnb?)roots but I’m not sure. Usher’s last three albums had great singles but were terrible overall.

Honestly though Usher should give us a Greatest Hits at this point. What more can he do with jermaine dupri? Get some new fresh producers and writers and im sure he can make magic again.

  9. Truth January 22, 2014

I hope there’s no Diplo, will.I.am, Guetta, Max Martin or any producer of ‘pop’ music on this new album. I want solely R&B in the tradition of his My Way/8701/Confessions.

Hope he’s working with Jam & Lewis and Babyface on it too! Them combined with Dupri would be CLASSIC Usher.

  10. hmmmm January 22, 2014

@ABSOVED Why would anybody want a repeat of the very overrated Confessions? 8701 was Usher’s best album even if it didn’t sell the most..If you want to get technical Here I Stand was Usher at his most R&B and it still didn’t do confessions numbers..So what are you talking about?

No one wants another confession’s album but the bandwagon fans of that era.

  11. S****** Blonde January 22, 2014

Never liked his music, i only like 3 songs from him and i can live without it, he’s an amazing dancer tho. I still can’t believe he has a diamond album, Confessions is one of the most overrated albums in the history of recording music.

  12. L21480 January 22, 2014

Usher has some atoning to do for selling out to the Katy Perry crowd. He better bring it with this new album so hard that I forget all about “OMG,” “DJ Got Us Falling In Love,” “Without You,” and “Scream.”

  13. BEYONCÉ January 22, 2014

Usher never stopped doing R&B. Hell, Here I Stand was R&B and performed poorly. You people aren’t gonna buy his albums anyway, bootleggers.

  14. Absolved January 22, 2014

People need to stop throwing up Here I Stand as some kind of an example of Usher doing R&B that didn’t sell. Here I Stand sucked. Up to THAT point, it was his worse album (Raymond v. Raymond and Looking 4 Myself have now eclipsed it in that garbage department.) He deviated away from JD with that album and started working with others, and the results were dire. Doesn’t matter if it was his “most R&B” album, although I dispute that, it was still a drop in quality from the previous albums that came before it and the sales reflected it. That was no excuse for him to jump ship, start wearing tight pants and become the lost member of LMFAO.

But real talk: H.I.S. sold more than the albums that followed it, so…

  15. BEYONCÉ January 22, 2014

Here I Stand was released in 08 when R&B artists still had the chance to go platinum by the skin of their teeth. The fans are always asking for something, but don’t support when the artist finally delivers. I’m an usher fan, but he is past his prime. The younger generation ain’t checking for him.

  16. Vandrea January 22, 2014

Tired of the HERE I STAND bashing. That album was a solid effort that was sullied and overshadowed by his marriage to Tameka. LOVE IN THIS CLUB >>>> every song Usher’s come out with since.

But anyways, I hope his new album is a throwback to the Usher I became a fan of. I don’t recognize this Mohawk wearing, electropop music making character that hangs out with Bieber and judges reality show talent competitions.

  17. Lovebird January 22, 2014

    More s** music, yawn.

  18. Mark111 January 22, 2014

Everyone saying they want R&B, but when that s*** drops that audience won’t buy crap. Going EDM would be lame as well. His last album had more urban music than pop, yet people threw the pop title all over it cause of 3 songs, even tho Climax was a new age R&B.

The nerve of someone calling Usher overrated when they Stan for Madonna and JT. Clearly that person roots for the white thief.

And saying you want a part 2 of an album is stupid. Usher should move the furthest from confessions. You don’t see Beyonce trying to make a DIL 2.

  19. Super Cisus January 22, 2014

Lmaooooo @ Mark!!! Usher should do whatever he wats to do and not try to please an Audience that aint gonna buy his music anyway kii. Im here for his fine ass

  20. JB102 January 22, 2014

What’s the matter Mark? You mad cause Janet is a flop and no longer relevant and hasn’t been for over a decade?

  21. super January 22, 2014

Wow some of you are so negative. @lovebird shut you stupid bandwagon stan.
He’s not only working with J.D, he’s working with Pharrell and other unknown producers. I hope he surprised everyone in a good way when that first single drops. The CEO of RCA even said this was going to be one of his best albums.

  22. Highschool January 22, 2014

    Who?

  23. Don January 22, 2014

I just hope he finds his stride again. I haven’t been feeling Usher since Confessions.

  24. Mark111 January 22, 2014

“I don’t know what GPS told you to come for me, but you better reroute and find another way around.”

  25. RoyalKev January 22, 2014

I really hope Usher gets it right this time. I think he do something that’s as catchy as some of the songs from previous albums. His recent work is decent, but sometimes a little bland. Ush needs something with bite like Trey’s “Unusual” (for an R&B crossover track), or Breezy’s “No Bulls***” (if he’s looking for solid R&B success). I just want him to update his style if he stick to his roots.

  26. flopsher January 22, 2014

USHER is going to flop as long as he keeps his flop manager. He is not coming back. RIP to Usher”s career 1994-2011.

  27. Tina Clayton Lord January 22, 2014

L4M wasn’t a “so-so success.” That album flopped. It didn’t even go platinum. Usher’s sales hadn’t been so poor since his ’94 debut.

  28. Theman January 22, 2014

Usher really doesn’t have any bad albums. People just want what they want. He can make music for all of his fans. A lot fans of r&b music don’t really support the music. Y’all have all of these great r&b albums out & y’all don’t support them.. So chill with all of that. U do not have to do just a certain type of style. He has a wide fanbase..

  29. R&B LOVE January 22, 2014

    USHER IS HISTORY. FULL STOP.

  30. R&B LOVE January 22, 2014

    U can’t believe it because you aren’t a R & B lover, it is evident!

  31. anonymous January 23, 2014

Good. Im ready for Usher to put out another confessions album for 2014. cant wait.
