It’s here!

Ashanti‘s video for ‘I Got It’ featuring the “bawse” Rick Ross was unwrapped moments ago on BET’s 106 & Park.

The high-octane clip is the latest visual to be rolled out in support of the singer’s fifth studio album ‘Braveheart’ – which finally lands in stores on March 4th.

Much ado has been made about the project, but can its latest clip salvage matters ahead of release? You be the judge after the jump…

As keen appreciators of the artistic strides Ashanti has made in recent years (strides that sadly aren’t as appreciated as they should be), the song feels somewhat beneath what she can and should be serving up – after more than ten years in the game.

That said…

For an independent clip, Ms. Douglas served and werked. Indeed, the video – with its lush cuts and gloss – trounces releases from acts sitting on major labels. On a random note, choreography still isn’t her “thing”, but all in all, a solid  effort.

Your thoughts?

  2. THE QUEEN OF GRAMMYS February 11, 2014

    Good

  3. Lovebird February 11, 2014

Ok Mzzz Ashanti, this is pretty hot. If she only still had Murder Inc buying her records, she wouldn’t push back this much.

    My prediction;

    Ashanti – 60K
    Ciara – 57K

  4. Navy Nick February 11, 2014

cute cute video- song is ok, I like her, but she needs that Foolish theme back…people like her, Ciara, need to understand when u got it, keep it, stop trying to venture out (i get it), BUT U hot @ 1 thing, dont stray from it…

  5. Neil February 11, 2014

  7. Skyfall February 11, 2014

Love the video, now she needs to go full storm in promoting.
    No push backs, no bs

  8. DIGGER BEY February 11, 2014

I like it. Ashanti is still showing she isn’t going anywhere and if this album sells more than Citranny. No words. No words.

  9. Zave February 11, 2014

Now Ashanti…you irrelevant or whatever…but why u just serve me like that?? lol

  10. Cupid shot me February 11, 2014

Chile boo this s*** is phony

  11. MARCUS February 11, 2014

I am rooting for you Ashanti. you are doing your thing and staying strong despite the bs everyone has. Have your own record label and staying true to you. I hope other people support instead of acting like stereotypes and bashing artists who work hard that aren’t Beyonce or Rihanna.

  12. Mark111 February 11, 2014

She never was a dancer, the song has too much going on. Too many claps and Ross wasn’t needed. She relies on rapper too much and that’s how her career went down hill. Hard to believe that she was once Beyonce’s rival and R&B it girl.

  13. Touché February 11, 2014

@ Mark111, Yaaaaaas! I love your Avi pic.

  14. Touché February 11, 2014

    Anyway, she has cute vocals.

  15. FutureCIARA February 11, 2014

  16. FutureCIARA February 11, 2014

I previewed the album on iTunes and it sounds pretty solid!

    Im here for it.

  17. fanatic February 11, 2014

mark111, I’m not sure where you get your facts from BUT ALL of Ashantis Album single hits were not features .. rappers wanted HER she never needed them.. Foolish, happy, baby, rock wit u, rain on me, only u, the way that i love you, never shud have, all those songs were HER singles lol.. Ashantis talented, shes still Here! shes Independent, Shes has 3 out of 4 Multi platinum albums lol ..GET Wit the Program HATERS!!..

  18. FutureCIARA February 11, 2014

    I agree with @Mark111

The video/song has A LOT going on! They should have paid somebody to edit it down some, And you can barely hear her vocals over the beat.

I like the song though, and bet it sounds nice in the club!

  19. slay_hive February 11, 2014

This is my first time hearing this song .I actually like 😉 *twerks out of post*

  20. James Jordan February 11, 2014

This song is fire, thanks a million for sharing.

  21. Marcus February 11, 2014

@Marcus Bitxh, Don’t Be Using My Name!

Anyway, I Like The Video & I Can See Urban Radio Playing “I Got It”. I Have Been Missing Ashanti & Can’t Wait To See What She Brings To The Table With “Braveheart”! 🙂

  22. Guillermo February 11, 2014

Wowzerz blew me away !!!!! totally buying my albums looks like a young janet Jackson in her IF video whe she was dancing but this girl s*** all a** fuckkk !

  23. Kareem February 11, 2014

I was given life to the tenth power

  24. CURTAINS February 11, 2014

    PROUD.

  25. Zam Zhinga February 11, 2014

I wasnt really feeling the song at first..but the VIDEO is hot and makes me like the song more. That being said… The VIDEO is STILL WAY HOTTER than the song.. the track seems like something you’d give to a new, up and coming singer… not the caliber of someone that’s been in the game for 10 years. Not that it’s bad, but onceit goes off, it does not RESOUND in my mind to press repeat… but the VIDEO is HOT and doesnt look cheap like alot of these videos today look.

  26. Trey February 11, 2014

I’m surprisingly impressed with this video….

  27. Del Bey February 11, 2014

    The song is ridiculously unoriginal

  28. Netta the great February 11, 2014

i used to love ashanti back in the day, but i really dont feel her artistic growth. am i missing something? a few of the snippets sounded cute, but nothing wowed me. the video was kinda dated, but cute for her.

  29. The Queen of R&B February 11, 2014

    I Like it

  30. IStanForYourFav February 11, 2014

YAAASSS SHANTI!!! Best choreography of her career. She will be receiving my coins. I’m so proud of her. I want to know though why can Ashanti get a decent feature and a video that doesn’t look like it was shot on an iPhone 2 with an independent label, but major label artists can’t? SMH. I tell u, it’s a mess behind the scenes.

P.S. No shade at all, but Ashanti: Only U video still is my favorite from her. I even got a bang after seeing that video and to this day, wear really long extensions in the wintwr and go for that look. Say whatever you want to about Ashanti, but visually she’s ALWAYS ON POINT!

  31. number1k9 February 11, 2014

Say whatever you want about her, but Ashanti is doing her thing for being an INDEPENDENT act who is staying true to her roots and who she is artistically.

While I wish she signed with Interscope or UMG in general, I can understand her not wanting a 360 deal.

I will be supporting. She managed to create a great looking video, with endorsement and her own money, W2G Ashanti!

  32. TheezyKnows February 11, 2014

Honestly, you got to give her credit. The odds are against her and she’s still hustling.

    It’s not embarrassing its determination.

I’m hoping the album drops because at this point she needs to prove the naysayers wrong.

Also, the dancing isn’t THAT bad lol

  33. she, me and her February 11, 2014

one thing i have to say about shanti she always slays in her vids.

  34. Kyle February 11, 2014

I have to say, that was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It was really great! Go Ashanti!

  35. Kyle February 11, 2014

Just listened and I have to say it sounds really good! Really refreshing to have a complete Ashanti album, it’s been too long. Way to go independent woman! We should support women and people like her that keep doing it, even on heir own. Making moves!

  36. Molly February 11, 2014

The video and song are so average nothing original from neither she can keep this trash.

  37. ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED) February 11, 2014

Ok Ashanti, this was decent! We know you’re not a dancer so you’re forgiven there but you better promote the hell outta this song NOW! You gotta a tiny bit of buzz going so take your a*s to 106 & Park and let people know what this song is for! Cause I don’t think anyone other than people on TGJ and your twitter know your still even make music..

  38. bibi93 February 11, 2014

    Good work ashanti

  39. D February 11, 2014

Hot! She better push the promo train hard ASAP….

  40. FanMUZIK February 11, 2014

@ ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED)

She was on 106 & Park to debut it…
    TODAY!

  41. Yonce February 11, 2014

It’s great for radio, the video is hot for now, but not memorable enough. I probably wont watch it again. Ashanti needs to stop featuring every rapper that she thinks will help her career. Ja rule was the only one who could do that.

  42. Rosie February 11, 2014

Didn’t listen but I want to know how the hell she got a Target deal. But work b****, I guess.

The guys running this site: post about AskMen’s 99 Most Desirable Women list. It’s a mess and stan wars will be guaranteed.

  43. Touché February 11, 2014

@Rosie, Sam will mostly post it once he sees who’s right in front of Rihanna lol.

  44. Lawayne February 11, 2014

I thought the dancing was hot.
It all goes well together and the moves work for her.
    Perfect

  45. Slim February 12, 2014

Ashanti has to be the STRONGEST chick in the game. With everyone jumping on the “down-play-ashanti” bandwagon…. She still doing this s*** reguardless. Many people would of already given up and say f*** it. Shes determined… Shes not going to quit.

In my opinion I don’t even think shes doing it for the popularity or the approval of others… I think its strictly for her soul.

Sadly to say shes the underdog… But with a chick who writes ALL her music… Grinding through an expensive ass music industry INDEPENDENTLY…. I can only pray she succeed and gain her momentum back. Cause Ashanti deserves that s***.

  46. Nikko February 12, 2014

Try acting or sing songs like Britney’s Blackout cd teckno pop\ hiphop… stop with songs like this!!!!!

  47. Kim Kardashian Stan February 12, 2014

The video is ok but the song is very forgettable basic and bland.

  48. cocobutta February 12, 2014

Clearly Ashanti is using her connections well because that does NOT look like a video from an INDEPENDENT artist.

    Good on her

  49. GoldenBoy J. February 12, 2014

For an independent release this is really not bad at all! Other independent artists (cough Lil’ Kim cough) should take note!
I don’t really like the song, but this is a solid delivery and by the looks of it Ashanti’s really getting serious with this album. She got me hype now!!

  50. Blabla February 12, 2014

I LIKE the snippets of BH but I’m honest: i don’t like the video :/

  51. Luke February 12, 2014

    2005 mess

  52. rafes February 12, 2014

really like it, but it’ll flop so hard 🙁

  53. ooohhh February 12, 2014

Go Ashanti!!!!! This video was way doper than I expected! I respect the hustle girl!!

  54. Michael February 12, 2014

The video is DOPE! She came hard on this one and I love it!!

I’m just wondering why all these people on these blog comments (not necessarily here, but everywhere else) is saying the video is ‘too sexual’ and ‘distasteful’. I bet everyone that says that praises Beyonces and Rihannas videos, but when Ashanti releases a video like that now it’s suddenly wrong. I just don’t understand smh.

We need to support our independent artists, she’s in it for the long haul.

    BRAVEHEART IN STORES MARCH 4TH!!

  55. yeahisaidit February 14, 2014

i must say I’m very disappointed . i expected a lot btter quality of a song from ashanti. at one point in her career she was a force to be reckoned with. this song is so generic. you could have told me this was some no name singer and i wouldn’t have questioned otherwise. ima need her to come a lot better.
