Most artist’s based in the USA depends on the USA market, their sales are usually over 70% of their global sales come from USA. There is probably only one music act which sales percentage are bigger in the rest of the world & that is the number one act in the world right now ONE DIRECTION, I say 60% of their sales come from the rest of the world & only 40% from USA.
Out of ONE DIRECTION 3.6 million WW sales for their third album Midnight Memories only 1.2 million is from USA. And also in 2013 only 4 albums released in that year, only 4 albums sold over 1 million copies in 1st week sales globaly. And that was One Direction-1.2m, Justin Timberlake-1.2m, Eminem-1.2m & Daft Punk-1m. If you remember JT sold 980k in USA, Eminem sold 760k in USA & 1D sold 540k in USA which means that 1D out sold both in the rest of the world. That is why One Direction are the biggest selling album seller in the world over the last 2 years. 14 million albums sold.

Might I add that this was her FIFTH album, ten years after the release of her first, and all of this was achieved with 0 promotion. Lady Gaga’s THIRD album, Artpop, sold 240,000 copies in seven days, and it hasn’t even been certified platinum yet, despite the vast amount of promotion she did for it. This signifies a major decline for someone who’s only been in the game for five years. I believe most artists are going for longevity, correct?

Our music market in the US is very closed to artists from non-English speaking countries, and for a Latin artist to even break into the American music market is a big deal. With artists like Shakira, it’s more important to look at worldwide sales. Shakira is one of the best-selling artists in the world, and has repeatedly broken sales figures worldwide. 75,000 is a great sales debut for a non-English speaking artist who’s been in the game for over 20 years.
Stop the hate. If you don’t like the way she sings, just don’t listen to her. Personally, I love the versatility of her voice and her artistry, and it hurts me to see the things that some of you have so immaturely written.
