Urban Pop princess Ariana Grande is to be awarded the ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’ by the Music Business Association next month, set to receive the honour for her contributions to Pop music.

Good news below…

Taking place on Thursday, May 8, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, the Music Biz 2014 Awards Luncheon will see Grande handed the awarded to praise the star for her groundbreaking #1 debut ‘Yours Truly‘, the success of its singles and her continued success in Pop’s arena.

On the honour, Music Biz president James Donio shared:

“Ariana is a multi-talented entertainer, commanding both the microphone and the camera in her dual careers as a musician and actress. While Nickelodeon fans have known her for years from her roles on hit TV shows Victorious and Sam & Cat, she exploded into the music world this year with her stunning debut album. Our recognition just underscores her potential for even greater success in the years ahead.”

This, met with the response shared by the singer herself, which reads:

“Music has always been my first love, so receiving this Award is a true honor for me. I’ve been pursuing a career as a singer since I was eight, and it’s a great feeling to know that the industry has embraced me with open arms. I’d like to thank everyone at Music Biz and, of course, my fans, and I can’t wait to get back in the studio and do this all over again!”

    But she had one hit….

    • Honeymoon Avenue April 16, 2014

Having an impact is more then just charts. She had the most talked about performance at the AMAs even though big names like One Direction, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and Christina Aguilera performed. That’s pretty ground breaking for a debuting artist.

      • whoiam April 16, 2014

Please, I cannot even remember her performance at the AMA’s

That’s so cute. I’m so happy for her. Congratulations sweetheart. I hope this rises her sales and recognition.

  3. Bey Fan April 16, 2014

she has a good voice. She’s very cute. I dont think she did anything that was ground breaking. But at least she has talent.

    • TrellBeyLike April 16, 2014

      Your picture!!!!>>>>

  4. FutureCIARA April 16, 2014

The only thing she needs to BREAK THROUGH is that tired hairstyle, and getting her debut album past platinum.

Atleast my faves Debut was groundbreaking..

    Atleast Beyonces Debut was groundbreaking..

Atleast Rihannas debut was a FLOP!!!!!!!!!!!

    Kiiiiiii

    • ROSEGOLD April 16, 2014

You’re hilarious! Stop clinging to Goodies! Fast foward 10 years later and Bey & Rih have both left Ciara in the dust. Stop it.

    • Honeymoon Avenue April 16, 2014

Ciara debuted when most albums went platinum and with a sound that was popular at the time. Ariana went against the current in terms of sound and even major stars aren’t going platinum these days. Miley had all the promo in the world and still hasn’t passed 1 million. Not really a fair comparison.

      • lovebird April 16, 2014

SCREAMING!!!!!!! at Miley having a huge promo budget, the most viewed porno on YouTube and a #1 hit and BangerZ still not platinum whilst BangerZ tour flopping.

      • Honeymoon Avenue April 16, 2014

I saw it coming. She did too much too soon. She should’ve learned from Gaga’s mistakes. Now no one has respect for her and the general public isn’t checking anymore.

  5. lovebird April 16, 2014

Slayyyyyy!!!! And she didn’t need to take her clothes off or use Tommy’s payola.

Meanwhile you’re mine flopping harder than Rita Ora’s new single.

    • FutureCIARA April 16, 2014

B**** I see your feeling it today… I burst out laughing at this comment gorl

      • IStanForYourFav April 16, 2014

Feeling it more than the GP is feeling is feeling Ciara lol

    • BYEFELECIA April 16, 2014

*Rolls Blunt* n wait for her 1st album to reach 15milli

    • IStanForYourFav April 16, 2014

Meanwhile, Cuntdonna is photoshopping arm pit hair, Rihanna is sucking Drake’s d*** to stay relevant, JHo is flopping 2x as hard as You’re Mine and even more over, all three with their wack flop music and dry wack p**** cant keep a man for more than one era. Kiii Fagbird. Let’s not even bring up that d*** taker known as Elijah. Fahbird has officially lost her impact on this site. Poor troll.

  6. lovebird April 16, 2014

And whilst Ariana’s talent is speaking for itself, BangerZ tour not sold out with half empty arenas even after Mikey fingers herself.

    • whoiam April 16, 2014

Come on stop being silly, Ariana cannot even consider doing an Arena tour, she still have to do small venues & theatres in certain cities.

  7. My Gums Tho(aka Teacher) April 16, 2014

    What contribution?

  8. Vee April 16, 2014

    Eh?

  9. Honeymoon Avenue April 16, 2014

Congrats to Ariana! I’m glad she’s getting recognition for her abilities and talents. Ariana had a very successful debut. She went from the red head on Nickelodeon, to being compared to a legendary vocalist, to now finding her own style and gaining respect from the music industry. I think that’s pretty good for a Nickelodeon star trying to sing R&B/Urban Pop. 420k for Yours Truly isn’t bad either, especially compared to her peers. I feel like it would’ve done more if the promo was more consistent. Baby I could’ve been a hit but her team completely ignored it. Then they decided to push Right There after it died off instead of when people were into it. I hope she performs at more award shows for the next album. Once people see her talent her sales always shoot up.

    Artists#ALbums#Era#Pop#History#Education.

Thriller: This album is still the muse for male Pop stars like JT, Usher and Chris Brown when it comes to created a good Pop/R&B album.

Like a Virgin: For good or worse, this is the album that started the Bubblegum Pop trend that we would later seen in Britney’s debut album and most of Katy Perry discography.

Whitney Houston: This album basically changed the way female vocalists would use their voices in the future.

Rhythm Nation 1814: This album give Michael Jackson a run for his money, One of the best Pop albums in music, you can see its influence in the likes of Britney and J.Lo.

Daydream: A flawless combination of R&B/Pop melodies with an angelic voice, its impact lives through Leona Lewis, Xtina and YES!, the one who wanted to name her album DayDreamin’.

Until anyone from this new generation of overrated artists do something for music in the way those albums/era did, then we could talk about impact, contribution and game changed, this is why music is in its worst state because artists are pushing to the top without doing absolutely nothing for the music itself, it’s all about charts position these days.

    • FutureCIARA April 16, 2014

      Your absolutely right!!

The industry has declined GREATLY, and tbh, there isnt much hope left for the essence of “selling music”

Its all based off gimmicks and politics now. Shady executives & industry puppets.

      • S****** Blonde April 16, 2014

        Industry puppets.

you sum everything in two words perfectly.

    • lovebird April 16, 2014

Daydream, rhythm nation, Whitney Houston? You never cease to amaze me. I’ve concluded I’ll never get you.

      • S****** Blonde April 16, 2014

        @Loverbird
Those albums might not being your cup of tea but they are influential, I don’t like ‘like a Virgin’ but that album definitely changed Pop music, their impact alone>>>>>>>>>

      • lovebird April 16, 2014

Oh no, I never said they’re not my cup of tea, I just didn’t expect you to like them (no offense).

      • S****** Blonde April 16, 2014

Daydream, Rhythm Nation, Whitney Houston and Like a Virgin are among my less favorite albums by those Divas but my point wasn’t about my personal taste, it was about impact.

      • lovebird April 16, 2014

OK, I see your point and agree.

      • Tiffany Xelia Jackson April 16, 2014

Why would you pick Daydream as Mimi’s most impacted-ful? Music Box was her most ground breaking era!

    • Skyfall April 16, 2014

I Love All of these albums especially Daydream, they all and history and had some of the best music in the history of recorded music.

    • IStanForYourFav April 16, 2014

Amazing list. But I think Music Box had a bigger impact on pop charts and Daydream had the urban, hip-hop impact.
Whitney’s impact is obvious for everything she did post her debut.
Rhthym Nation did impact, but people underestimate The Velvet Rope’s impact.
Thriller speaks for itself. Top selling album ever

    • coolness April 16, 2014

@S******, SPOT ON! All those albums laid out the blueprint and haven’t been surpassed yet.

    • Kilt April 16, 2014

10’s across the bored for this comment.

  11. Scoop April 16, 2014

What is music biz, anyway? She isn’t really groundbreaking. Not yet at least.

  12. Mimi carey April 16, 2014

Nothing groundbreaking or impactful about her

  13. Beyhive s*** April 16, 2014

    oooh this whitch

  14. the real xoxo April 16, 2014

    ‘bought-and-paid-for’ PR award

  15. Tiffany Xelia Jackson April 16, 2014

Child, this lil girl ain’t done nothing groundbreaking.

1.) The Blonde Ambition Era is ground breaking

2.) Music Box era is ground breaking

    3.) Thriller was GROUND BREAKING!!!

    Ariana Grande is…. cute.

  16. Tiffany Xelia Jackson April 16, 2014

You can also call Rihanna’s digital SINGLE sales ground breaking imo…

130+ Million Singles Less Than 10 Years Is Really Impressive imo…

Even tho she can’t sing LIVE!

  17. Touché April 16, 2014

“Music Business Association” <—-What the hell is that? I have never heard of this organization. Anyways, there is nothing groundbreaking about debut album. Come back when her album breaks records, sells over 20 million, or even establishes a new genre/trend in music.

    • Touché April 16, 2014

      *her

  18. whoiam April 16, 2014

Winning breakthrough artist is just a judgement call by the award judges, but i suppose not many new pop acts out there competing with her.So Congrats. The contribution to pop music part of the article title shows that the writer as a sense of humour.

  19. Diane April 16, 2014

    Ummmmm grats to her lol

  20. Molly April 16, 2014

Lol girl what impact you had one hit bye

  21. The XX April 16, 2014

why are they trying to push her on to us? maybe I’m just getting to old.

  22. coolness April 16, 2014

Well… congrats to Ariana. She’s a genuine talent and I guess she was Pop’s breakout star last year. Her music/sales are nothing special but I hope she’ll develop her artistry and attain more success as she progresses. This award may seem immature but how she fares in the future will tell whether it was poor judgement or not. Anyway Arina, do you!

  23. metzo April 16, 2014

Welp. At least she has Talent.

  24. JOHNVIDAL April 16, 2014

    LOL What success?
All these early awards are payola to promote newbies new albums. Seriously. What contribution? LMAO

  25. Navy Commander April 16, 2014

But mariah aleady has done what shes doing…
