The problem is they never let Rita’s music and image speak for itself. They just went about attaching her to big names, so now she just comes off and someone attached to big names. She needs a hit, and she’ll break the United States. I don’t think the song, though it’s cute, will be a U.S. hit.
Not a Rihanna fan, but she took her time, built up a fanbase, made hits, and took bits and pieces from other cutting edge successful women without coming off like a copy (though that’s debatable, whether she in fact is, one big copy). But the point is, she sure comes off like her OWN artist.
