New Song: Jennifer Hudson – ‘Walk It Out (ft. Timbaland)’

Published: Monday 14th Apr 2014 by Sam

Jennifer Hudson is back!

After warming up the masses with buzz cut ‘I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel)’, the vocal powerhouse serves a flavour-filled follow-up in the form of ‘Walk It Out’.

Produced by hitmaker Timbaland (who also features on the track), the cut introduces a whole new Hudson – who ditches the “safeness” of previous releases in favour of gritty delivery and even the odd expletive.

Take a listen below…

While sonically cohesive with the sound of its predecessor, ‘Walk’ takes an additional step towards “current” without compromising the soulfulness embedded in Hudson’s voice. The results? A delicious slice of what we call Soul-Pop.

Interestingly, both this and ‘I Can’t Describe’ appear to be carved in the form of one of our favourite (and perhaps most underrated) J.Hud cuts – ‘No One’s Gonna Love You’.

If given the right push, we see many falling head over heels for this. It’s oh so deserving.

Your thoughts?

I know this retro sound is her thing, but I wish she’d switch it up more as it’s starting to sound the same.

    • Proctor April 14, 2014

You have an awful lot of nerve saying that when you stan for Janet “Stale” Jackson.

      • LOL April 14, 2014

  3. Bryan April 14, 2014

I Love J.Hud & am always rooting for her but I don’t think she’s found herself musically yet. 🙁 I’ll wait

  4. likedbymany April 14, 2014

I like it. It’s not bad. If someone else was singing it you guys would be all for it

Its typical JHUD.She changed it up little bit but that’s it.

  5. cake like lady gaga April 14, 2014

This > Lana’s elevator jingle masquerading as a song.

    • Doyen April 14, 2014

      Your endorsement is not needed…

      • cake like lady gaga April 14, 2014

Well I’ve already endorsed, WHAT YOU GONNA DO??? 😀 😀

  6. 2bad2bme April 14, 2014

the best song i heard from her in a long time!

  7. JOHNVIDAL April 14, 2014

Not bad at all. I´m not into her and I still think her voice is not for mainstream, just for church. But this sounds way more current than most of her other releases.

  8. Tyrone April 14, 2014

She sounds a tadbit like beyonce in that ‘hood’ sounding part. Taking a few more spins

    • LOL April 14, 2014

  9. LOL April 14, 2014

    • Britt April 14, 2014

Girl Please, we moved on from that call me when Jennifer is known for more than her Weight Watchers commericals. Holla at me when she sales a million copies of an album! I’ll wait……..

  10. Yea ok April 14, 2014

I’m feeling this. I loved the slight Aaliyah reference in the lyrics too.

If she does a real cute video for this I can see it doing well.

  11. Touché April 14, 2014

I like her voice but I’m not here for this song. Sorry.

  12. Molly April 14, 2014

    Her music is always wack.

  13. Bladweiser April 14, 2014

she looks great in the cover art.
The song isn’t BAD. It’s a good album cut. Like spring cleaning music.

  14. DD April 14, 2014

I like it but would love to hear Brandy’s vocals slay this song. Hope she and Timb are working together again on her new album because Afrodisiac is still the truth.

  15. Karrueche stan April 14, 2014

Atleast she isn’t hollering all over the damn place for once. I feel like she doesn’t know who she is as an artist. I think she should stick to broadway tunes and covers.

  16. BeYAWNce April 14, 2014

Disgusting black pig, Whitney Houston wannabe. At least she has her own song to sing now.

  17. King April 14, 2014

I actually really liked this. The production and tempo worked for her. I could’ve did without the cussing though, seemed unnecessary.

  18. celine April 14, 2014

BIG NOOOO ! Timbaland works only for JT . her first single is a big flop and this one too

  19. Mimi carey April 14, 2014

She’s trying too hard!!! This isn’t gonna chart anywhere !

  20. stan April 14, 2014

nice try, but she’s still boring musically

  21. a gal April 14, 2014

not a fan of hers but I actually love this song!

  22. aim April 14, 2014

Why would the Hive be pressed over Jennifer Hudson? Let’s fast forward 8 years and it’s still Beyonce>Jennifer. She has an Oscar but honestly what else has she done? Beyonce’s career in movies & music>Jennifer Hudson’s!
I like her powerful vocals but she just seems like she is fishing for her next hit, which isn’t a bad thing. It just seems like her material is always mediocre at best, even when it’s with great producers.
I like this song though, not seeing radio but more of an album filler track.
Fat Jennifer> bony bobble headed Jennifer!

  23. IStanForYourFav April 14, 2014

O.k. Seriously, so no one is going to point out the obvious? She needs to slay the gospel genre. She can sing (no control at all), but she can sing. If Clive quit trying to make her the new Whitney and a cover/tribute Queen, then he could finally get it right. Smh at this mess. And I agree, fat JHud over liposuction JHud. (P.s. Google her belly and see how they stretched her belly button. B**** know damn well she didn’t lose that weight naturally. )

    • bluegangsta253 May 10, 2020

Your a disgusting pig you know that

  24. Casual April 14, 2014

I love Jennifer Hudson, but this isn’t the much-needed hit she needs. Like somebody said above, it’s a good album cut, though.

  25. Liquoroncé April 14, 2014

A basic song by a basic……….(fill in the blanks if your basic like ha). And why is this b**** serving cheap motel s** appeal in the single after all the s*** she’s said rihyoncé’s use of s** to sell. SMH

  26. ROSEGOLD April 14, 2014

…..But I thought singing about s** was overrated Jen Jen? Lol. I like that she’s trying something different, but like 98% of her music….it doesn’t stick.

  27. mypenizfresh April 14, 2014

Very decent track. The harmonies are crazy on this song. Not so much radio friendly for now, but it should do well on the adult charts. Just seems a little dragged out for no reason. The intro was a bit long.

  28. Liquoroncé April 14, 2014

The song sucks period. And she doesn’t have the starpower or vision to be a successful crossover diva.

  29. eric April 14, 2014

Someone’s giving her bad advice. This song doesn’t fit Jennifer; neither does the sexed up image. She really doesn’t have to try so hard. I liked her best in the era of her second album. She appeared and sounded more comfortable and natural.

  30. Malcolm April 14, 2014

I love this song, Jennifer Hudson did something good here with Timbaland, she needs something like Fantasia’s “Without Me”. I have an feeling this album is gonna be the one she is known for, it’s gonna be her “Thriller”

  31. credits April 14, 2014

There is a few of her songs from her discography that i genuinely like but maybe overall she is better as a broadway belter or singing tributes and covering songs for the greats that came before her because we all know she is excellent at that.

  32. scorpio 4 beyonce April 14, 2014

    Sounds like a beyonce reget

  33. Flychick86 April 14, 2014

    Wow. Nice!

  34. Gayn April 14, 2014

did you mean soul pop or soda pop?

  35. FutureCIARA April 15, 2014

I really want her to win!!!!

But i don’t know, Its like the music they give her is just so mediocre and below the bar!

She still has an audience though.

  36. saywhat May 4, 2014

I heard this on the radio for the first time and could have sworn it was beyonce! Jhud surprised me with this one. Im diggin it. Girl cant dance her way out of a paperbag though.
