If an artist doesn’t sell high number fucka YOU FAILED! The artist did their job and made great music. That should be what we focus on- the content. S***.. Vanilla Ice (just an example and there are many more) sold crazy records, but what impact did he have? How did he change your life? A lot of artist can’t be themselves because they are looked down upon because they didn’t sell. A lot of artist have to pull gimmicks in order for you to buy their work. When do we get back to pure music? We have to do better….
Some artist should never do reality television. Mariah’s biggest mistake was doing American Idol; she made herself to accessible. Quite frankly, she wasn’t likable. Artist like Mariah should just focus on putting out great music. She has a strong fan base and people who love her. YouTube videos from the tour are not promo. There’s no exposure there. Promo us when you go on National TV for interviews and Performances or radio interviews Luke Mariah has DONE. Beyonce has done none of that besides Grammys n Britts.

That said, it´s normal that Beyonce sells more than Mariah in 2014, don´t you think? Mariah is in her 25th year of career and her music is not that easy to sell. Her videos are not appealing enough for nowadays kids (Vevo streams), you know Beyonce, Rihanna and the rest showing their bodies till exhaustion. That´s what sells streams. I could go on, it´s just normal. No artist of Mariah´s age is on the charts really.

Idk for me Beyoncé’s new album was just overly sexual and did not really have much substance to it. To me, in a lot of ways, felt like another version of I am Sasha Fierce, if that. Mariah’s new album was good and it suited her age and where she is in life and was just more solid. However Mariah has this excessive air of being a diva which I feel people can’t relate to not to mention her interview skills are terrible because she talks in circles about nothing and can come off very condescending. I mean really she needs a lighting crew? That for me was a wtf moment and drew a line even for me, a very loyal Lamb. But idk is what it is….

Granted I feel there’s nothing wrong with expressing your sexuality but there’s a way to do it with class. Promo is radio airplay, promo is many tv performances, and promo is money spent in big videos. None of that has happened.

For the retarded people saying “biggest flop of all time by a mainstream artist”… let me tell you: NO. Where are the last Lenny Kravitz albums for example? How many copies did he sell? Cause he and many other artists of Mariah´s age who were mainstream keep on releasing music, but almost none of you even notice. Mariah is still selling more with this bad numbers than 97% of the people who debuted around her debut date.
That said, these are really bad numbers. But a five-year gap, almost zero promo, no radio support, being R&B and Hip Hop instead of pop for like 15 years now, etc, etc does this. In fact, it´s surprising how great her overall numbers (career) are taking into account how different her music is since 1997 from what most people wanted from her.
She´s doing Celine numbers in the USA (Celine´s were a little bit higher last fall but it was Xmas season and even Celine (who only promotes for a month and then goes to Vegas again) promoted way more than Mariah).
Oh and Sam is a sad hater without principles btw! You can not bash again and again artist or an album that you think is stellar or great in your own words. If that´s how you behave in real life I really wouldn´t want you anywhere near me. So superficial.
Music industry sales are at an all time low. Mariah is a legend! She has nothing let to prove! I’m still mad though that she made JD her manager. I’m not sure he handled this era right for MC. She’s probably in need of better management and a new image. There is still a lot of love for MC. I just don’t like how mainstream media treats their veterans in the music biz. Why must they always want legends to be dragged and bow out in disgrace? They were great in their prime and gave us greatness with record sales and performances. Even when Blake Shelton dissed Britney Spears the other day opening some country awards saying “if you don’t want to hear real music, go down the road and check out Britney”…Britney may not have the best voice in the biz but when will Blake have two diamond albums???
