92 years after it was founded by John Reith, the ‘British Broadcasting Channel (BBC)’ have announced the arrival of the ‘BBC Music Awards’, set to celebrate releases from the likes of Beyonce & Brit-Pop megastar Ella Eyre, pictured above.

Digital Spy reveals:

The ceremony will feature live performances to look back at the past 12 months, and will include the categories British Artist of the Year, International Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.

It will air live on BBC One, and will receive coverage on Radio 1, Radio 2 and The One Show.

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore said: “I think this is a fantastic opportunity for BBC One to collaborate with Radio 1 and Radio 2 and host this unique celebration of music in the UK. The BBC has always been a destination for new and established musical talent, and by bringing the two together the BBC Music Awards promises to give viewers and listeners an unforgettable night.”

The ceremony was announced as the BBC launched the corporation’s new BBC Music strategy today (June 16).

Set to rival the ‘BRIT Awards‘ and Kanya King‘s ‘MOBO Award‘s, ‘BBC‘s arrival will mark the first British music award show to be funded by the nation’s tax payers, paying a license fee to the TV Licensing Authority which is used to fund the broadcaster’s projects.

lmao — who do I stand?

  2. BadGyalRita June 16, 2014

Ok this is actually a slay. We have to pay to watch that channel here so if they f*** this up they’ll be dragged to no end! I don’t know what MONO are gonna do now though.

    • Lil’ Future June 16, 2014

More awards for Thiefoncé Knowles-Carter to buy…

  3. Lana Del West Coast June 16, 2014

They’re gonna give all the awards to Sam Smith.

  4. SandySande June 16, 2014

TGJ had the damn nerve to mention Mobo like they could ever be competition for ANY award show. They were popping in the 90s and earlier millennium because black music was popping then but as soon as s*** turned left they flopped which just proves that it wasn’t them helping the singers but the singers helping them. At the end of the day, there’s no need for them anymore because they don’t do anything for anyone black, white or otherwise.

    • MrsMerryGold June 16, 2014

Unfair, Mobo helped JLS become what they were.

      • SandySande June 16, 2014

Lies you tell! JLS only went there every year because they could be guaranteed awards if they turned up. Everybody knows the Mobos are one of the best things to happen to the UK because they really did help so many people who were being ignored because of their ethnicity. The only reason I know who Jamelia was was because of them, but the fact is that they’re irrelevant today because 1. nobody cares about them and 2. they don’t have any credibility because they give awards to anyone who’s popular instead of who deserves them.

  5. IStanForYourFav June 16, 2014

O.k. Maybe they can put a stop to these lame award shows with their lame production, lame line up, and etc. It would be nice to enjoy an entire award show without the feeling of watching paint dry be less lackluster. I’m going to tune in.

  6. WaitinAllNight June 16, 2014

“Set to rival the MOBO Awards.” LOOOOOOOOOOL. David and his delusions, the MOBO awards are S*** and everyone knows it.

  7. ItsCheryl2Bh June 16, 2014

I’m looking forward to this 2bh.

  8. IStanForYourFav June 16, 2014

I love Ella’s hair!! I love wearing my hair like that, but the maintenance is not too easy.

  9. S****** Blonde June 16, 2014

Another award to celebrate basic Pop artists, as if we don’t have enough already, B**, was next the CNN music awards.

  10. JB Chasez June 16, 2014

Did I see someone say that MoBos helped the boys? Shut the eff up please and thank you, ok? If anything, Sam did more for them because my cousins in Mechanicsville know all about JLS because he used to write about them. As shady as they can be, Grape Juice is f****** huge and actually bigger than MoBos because people read it outside of the UK. Does anyone care about Mobos in the UK let alone outside of it? No, so please come correct.

    • SandySande June 16, 2014

      My point exactly.

      • QueenNadine June 16, 2014

        No lies were detected.

  11. metzo June 16, 2014

Ohh I’m excited. These award shows nowadays aren’t all that.

  12. truth (The PinkShit will.surely FLOP!! Just like PissAndFLOPtion honey) June 16, 2014

Yea…but in other GREATER news…ICKI IS FLOPN chile!!!! Her chart position resides in the bowels of HELL!!! KII!!!

  13. NickiBeenBad June 16, 2014

I’m scrying at David thinking MOBOs can compete with anyone when he himself knows that TGJ are ten times more relevant than them.

    • MadameMonica June 16, 2014

You know your ass is dead wrong for that but you right.

  14. MrsMerryGold June 16, 2014

You lot are wrong if you think MOBO didn’t help Aston and the lads, like REALLY wrong. I never said they were bigger than TGJ because they’re not but they really helped the lads by giving them those awards and celebrating the fact that they were black and doing well.
At the end of the day, they are a bit rubbish today but it’s wrong to act like they were always irrelevant when they weren’t.

    • DanitySlain June 16, 2014

International >>>> local. When you see it from that perspective it’s easy to see why some people think Sam is more influential than them.

  15. FentySoSnatched June 16, 2014

What good is a US blog to a British artist though?

    • HausMuthaAdele June 16, 2014

      Two words.

      RITA.
      ORA.

    • PaulAllahSlaydul June 16, 2014

      Rita Ora or nah?

      • Ryan Spears June 16, 2014

David is basically the only reason Rita is known here babe.

    • Cheryl Minaj June 16, 2014

Tell that Rita ‘Slip David A Cheque’ Ora.

  16. S****** Blonde June 16, 2014

What the f*** is Mobo?, i am an American, answers please!

    • Charli S.E.X. June 16, 2014

It’s an award show that made to help black singers who got no love from the white media and it used to snatch and slay but it’s gotten so bad over the years it’s embarrassing.

      • S****** Blonde June 16, 2014

        Ok, thank you 🙂

    • FutureCIARA June 16, 2014

      Kiii!

      OKAY BITTCH!
I was thinking the same thing…..

      • S****** Blonde June 16, 2014

That’s why they say, us Americans are ignorants, lol.

      • FutureCIARA June 16, 2014

LOL, i was just not bothered enough to Google it!

    • DC34Evah June 16, 2014

It used to be a major award show hun. Tina Turner, Beyonce, Jay, Rihanna, Lil Kim all used to go there every year but they started getting a little s***** a few years ago. Still love them though.

    • coolness June 16, 2014

It stands for Music Of Black Origin Awards. Was quite the award show back in the day but it’s a bust now, lol.

  17. FutureCIARA June 16, 2014

Im not here for it….. Isnt this embarrassing for B**, I thought they were a prestigious name that reported important world news.

    • Fashion Icon Fenty June 16, 2014

They own Radio 1 and 2 and organize mad festivals so this is a good look for them. I just hope they’re fair when giving out the awards.

  18. Austin Dumas June 16, 2014

@Tgj can we get a post about tayana Taylor, A.K.A rihanna’s nemesis

    • Rosie June 16, 2014

That’s because they didn’t exist until today. You tried.

  21. Rosie June 16, 2014

It’ll still be better than the MuchMusic Awards, the Billboard Awards, and the iHeartPayola Awards combined.

    • JOHNVIDAL (Iconic chanteuse slayed) June 16, 2014

Probably! There are so many laughable awards nowadays that these ones will probably be fairer, not too difficult to achieve.

  22. PRINCE MACHIAVEL June 17, 2014
