Congratulations are most certainly in order for Universal’s Def Jam!
That’s right, after taking Iggy Azalea‘s ‘Fancy’ to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and making a commercially viable star out of the once obscure Jhene Aiko, the label have bagged themselves another smash hit with Jeremih‘s latest effort!
How the R&B star is flying the flag for the genre on the ‘Hot 100’?
Good news below!
Thanks to support secured by ‘Top 40’ and ‘Rhythmic’ stations, the singer’s ‘Don’t Tell Em’ has slithered up the chart and now sits at #30, rising 10 spots in the last week and now sees him stand as the highest charting R&B male on the tally as it stands today.
Lifted from his third LP ‘Late Nights‘, the single marks the latest R&B jam to push the genre’s commercial revival, coming after Ciara‘s 2013 hit ‘Body Party’ surpassed sales of half a million units in the US alone and Jhene Aiko‘s ‘Sail Out’ spawned the unavoidable number ‘The Worst.’
Elsewhere, proving that her star power extends far beyond British walls is Rita Ora, whose Iggy Azalea-led ‘Black Widow’ rises ten spots to claim the #19 spot, now just 18 positions from showing up at #1’s door!
Should ‘Widow’ top the chart, it would stand as Rita’s first US #1 single and Iggy’s second, following the release of ‘Fancy‘, which peaked atop the chart with a little help from Clear Channel’s ‘On the Verge’ program.
