And the Predictions Are In: Jessie J’s ‘Sweet Talker’ Set To Sell…

Published: Wednesday 15th Oct 2014 by Rashad

With the look, the sound, and the moves in abundance, if ever there was a pop perusal for today’s “total package,” Jessie J would be that with a bow on top.

Now, with three years separating U.S. fans from a new album from the powerhouse vocalist, it seems that anticipation to unwrap unheard music from said “package” has reached feverish pitch.  Evidence of such not only lies with the high performance of lead single ‘Bang Bang’ (featuring Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj) on the Billboard Hot 100, but also the acclaim that followed with ‘Burning Up’ (ft. 2 Chainz) and the album’s title track.

Her introductory set, ‘Who You Are,’ narrowly missed the Billboard 200 back in 2011 with a modest 34,000 sold its first week.  Now that fans across the pond know who she is, will we see ‘Sweet Talker’ burning up the charts next week?

Jessie J’s ‘Sweet Talker’

First week sales:  20-25,000

With the numbers above, ‘Sweet Talker’ is set for a sweet top 20 placement on next week’s Billboard 200.  Because the predictions are unveiled after one day of sales, they do stand the chance of revision.

But, as always, we won’t know the official numbers until they are posted on Billboard next week.

In this industry, it’s your name that sells anymore. I, however, don’t care about your sales. As long as you create quality music, you’ll have a fan in me.

  2. OH October 15, 2014

who cares about sales? as long as the music is good that should be all that matters.

  3. Rihboy October 15, 2014

Ouch very underwhelming. I love her tho and I will support her. But with sales like that I don’t see this album having any longevity.

  4. Xavier October 15, 2014

So Mariah Carey sells 58,000 in her first week and that is a flop, but Jessie J sells half that and you say people are “feverish”? How much Jessie J pay ya’ll to write this BS article? Chris Brown sold around 4x that and I don’t remember y’all making a big deal about that. This site is a joke.

    • ronnoc October 15, 2014

Mariah and Chris both (supposedly) have huge fanbases and already built reputations. Jessie is still a relative newcomer without any huge hits. Completely different situation. It’s more embarrassing for a Mariah to move these numbers. duh

      • Kisses October 16, 2014

No, it’s not more embarrassing. Mariah is way past her prime. No one expects music vets to sell well after a certain amount of time in the industry.

  5. Dirty Laundry October 15, 2014

Ki poor Jessie struggles like Keyshia. I can only imagine what the pink print will sell

    • Mark111 October 15, 2014

Kelly will never have another solo album.

      • truth (icki is the QWEEN OF PUSHBACK!! Iggy got her scuured honey. #IckiAFlop) October 15, 2014

        Death!

      • Jamie October 15, 2014

And she still has more than you and your generations to come will ever have. As a matter of fact, you’re a damn queen so the generation’s f****** over. Kelly Rowland > your whole life.

  6. #TeamTinashe Stan “Aquarius” In Stores October 15, 2014

Damn, even I forgot how bad the music game is right now in terms of sales. Lol I literally predicted Tinashe to sell like 60K last month but then remember the shift in terms of sales nowadays. Jessie J this is only beginning as well for a burgeoning career in the US now! And I f’n love her album too!

But fact of the matter, when I saw Tee’ sales I was shocked but no butthurt about it because this is only the beginning and also a debuting artists album sales don’t predict their future I mean look at many of those artists that came before when R&B was “mainstream” and got not good but GREAT first week sales (100K or more) and now look what their selling now. Anyways it’s the beginning and I am so thrilled that she finally has an album out and she isn’t worried about sales, she is worried about review reception among critics and fans! 😀

    • #TeamTinashe Stan “Aquarius” In Stores October 15, 2014

      *Not

  7. Mark111 October 15, 2014

The flopage is real. But she should use this era to show us who she is. Same with Tinashe and so many other NEW artist. The question is, will their label let them?

  8. Beysus October 15, 2014

It’s crazy how singles can easily go Platinum but the album struggles…

    • #TeamTinashe Stan “Aquarius” In Stores October 15, 2014

      HASHTAG: #TRUTH

    • Beysus October 15, 2014

But in Beys case, it’s the other way round!!! #GameChanger

    • Beysus October 15, 2014

If you like a single, surely you’d want the artist’s body of work that they spent time on!

  9. Mark111 October 15, 2014

The shame is that these are pop artist. The business really is living off of singles now. Maybe this is a bad season for releases.

  10. Beysus October 15, 2014

Her last 2 albums had mixed reviews…

  11. Slay_Hive October 15, 2014

The music industry is in the pits right now. It’s sad that only a few (Beyonce)can sell in today’s market. I like Jessie and her voice is everything. She deserves Rihanna’s sales.

    • Mark111 October 15, 2014

Rihanna put in the work for her sales. Don’t diss her.

    • billboardqueen October 15, 2014

      Beyonce desseved the congratulations:)

    • Lil Wayne stan October 15, 2014

Beyonce ain’t the only one selling.

  12. RCi October 15, 2014

wait till taylor’s album comes out. i predict 1 million first week… all those old rich white folk love taylor and it seems they’re the only one who still buy albums. i.e. Barbra Streisand album, TonyBennet/Gaga album and all those country albums sell too

    • Mark111 October 15, 2014

You’re full of s***. You see the list of this week’s sales? Most were country artist and bands.

      • RCi October 15, 2014

lmao and what female black entertainers are selling taylor swift, adele numbers? Not Rihanna, she’s only got one number 1 album… the only one thats close is Beyonce but even Bey can’t compete with those white chicks.

      • Mark111 October 15, 2014

No you said country artist, the genre Taylor ditched and Adele isn’t even part of. Swift won’t flop, but she won’t do a milli in a week. 400K to 500K.

      • CherylSoldier October 15, 2014

Who cares what genre taylor does? She has a rabid fan base. Her projections are currently at 1 million. Her buzz single was selling 100k yesterday alone. Katy did that in a week.

  13. Lil Wayne stan October 15, 2014

    This tragic, hope it increases.

  14. Lmfao_Hoe October 15, 2014

This just further proves it don’t mean s*** if your single is #1or receives hell of airplay, cause you’ll never see a certification of an gold or platinum or even silver album or single plagues, until time passes (5 or more years). The industry should be ashamed of this s***. How is it many of our faves and others have over 100 million views off of YouTube but only 20,000 ppl went out and bought their damn albums with all their countless promo and exposure over social media? Theses record labels think their slick force feeding the public bs and buying thoses views. Like honestly who the f*** you know watching theses videos everyday ???? And songs are easily overhyped and forgotten the next or two months.

  15. OrangeYouGladIDidntSayBanana October 15, 2014

At the expense of being THAT person that leaves a completely unrelated comment…
Why don’t you guys post about Taylor Swift? She’s releasing a pop album, the lead single had a #1 debut, and her past two albums sold over one million copies their first week in the US. She has the audience and now records the genre you constantly report about.

  16. CherylSoldier October 15, 2014

Not yall not calling her a flop but calling others one. Also, why isn’t tgj posting the UK tea? Ella Henderson is outselling her there. I thought jessie was a huge UK album seller/star?

  17. October 15, 2014

i see alot of you Bias hypocrites on here talking about sales don’t matter.
but you same people is on other peoples fav post talking about how they are a flops and this and that. sh!t goes both way you know, anyways this isn’t a knock against Jessie because i really do like her and wish her the best she have talent. it just these hypocrites in here i can’t stand.

  18. Radars77 October 15, 2014

Love JessieJ since 2011 -been a challenge since I’m in the US to convince my friends to follow suit-but thanks to ‘Bang Bang’ & her appearances on US TV (being a judge on DWTS really showed she belongs on TV as well!) & ‘Burning Up’ now at least they know why I’m such a Fan -HOPE TO SEE HER IN CONCERT HEREBut Dont want her to change her style -Acoustic -no Dancers- Just Her Amazing Voice & Personality! HOPE THE ALBUMS’ a winner here-I got mine Digital & Hard copy:))

  19. Rosie October 15, 2014

The bias. Bang Bang (aka the worst song of 2014) has been in the top 5 since release so this basically just proves that the GP thinks it’s just another Ariana song. This is a flop. Death at U2 selling more with an album that was already free to everyone with iTunes.

  20. Musika October 16, 2014

If you look at it in a different point of view, its expected since Jessie J’s still not a big name in America. Last time she peaked was with Domino. Once she starts to release one hit from another, those album sales will increase. Who knows? Maybe on her fourth album, it will sell more than 40K if her name becomes big.
