Yet, if she’s ever to become commercially relevant again to today’s music buyers, she needs to sort out her “product” and problems pronto.

Whitney just possessed a better technique & had more POWER than Mariah. It was the choice of Tommy & Sony that made Mariah sing out of her range in the studio. She even said, they made her sing her songs twice as high. To appeal to that Nippy/Celine demographic. “Vision Of Love” was recorded WAY different on her demo version than the actual record. Sony/Tommy played a huge part in her vocal decline also…

About the extremely brief clips: she didn´t sound good, but her voice changes constantly, when she did 3 big sold out concerts in Australia 2 years ago she sounded very good, and she´ll sound different in every concert in this tour. It is what it is. Oh, and her album is great.

This isn’t new… Mariah has gone through rough times vocally and every fan knows that the state of her voice fluctuates: around Butterfly things got ugly; on Rainbow she wasn’t totally recovered; when Charmbracelet came out she was amazing; during The Adventures of Mimi her voice was tired again, a fact that was reflecte on E=MC², even though during a big part of the promo for TEOM she sounded great; on Memoirs she got better and finally on Merry Christmas II she sang to the heavens again. On Chanteuse I noticed a very raspy voice… The chest voice is where the problem is focused; she couldn’t belt last night, and even talking seemed to be hard.
At this point it looks like she has no control, so some days the voice will be on point – different, ’cause time goes by and change comes for every high performance achiever – in music, dancing, sports, etc. -, or bad.
I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m sure that she felt terribly embarrassed; maybe surgery is an option and she’s too afraid to go ahead with the procedure… Also, there’s the break up. Almost all of the “Elusive” album had Nick as the main theme (Thirsty, You Don’t Know What To Do, Cry, Faded, Camouflage, Money, The Art Of Letting Go…), so, there’s definitely an emotional background playing a big part on her actual condition, aside from the physical component.
Psychologically she’s perfectly sane, incredibly smart, but has made choices that aren’t the best (the over use of the Diva persona is included here).
Finally I hope that people recognize Mariah not only as a genius of music, but mainly as a human being who goes through good and bad phases in life. Yesterday wasn’t a good day, she had worse days, and will get better.
