When the dust has settled, Mariah Carey will inevitably go down as one of the greatest vocalists of all time. However, in the here and now, the singer’s instrument appears to need some fine-tuning.
For, after wrapping the first night on the Asian leg of her new tour ‘The Elusive Chanteuse Show’, disturbing footage has emerged of the diva struggling with a number of songs…only to sound MP3 magnifique on others.

The songbird then sounded miraculously chirpy on…
Factually speaking, voices change. And while there exists ample debate as to what’s happened/happening to Mariah’s, we just wish she’d employ less obvious means of covering up the clear problem. A problem which has been increasingly apparent over the last 10 years of her career.
Like, for goodness sake; play around with the arrangement and tweak the band’s key to suit the “new” vocals. And if lip-synching, don’t do so to the CD versions of tracks from 1998. It’s embarrassing.
What’s more, we’ve also noted how – in recent years – Mimi has become accustomed to creating songs in the studio with vocals and arrangements that are near-impossible to recreate live. It’s a practice traceable to the flawless ‘Emancipation’ right up to this year’s ‘Elusive Chanteuse’ especially on tracks such as ‘Heavenly’. Sure, it makes for great listening, yet – if she insists on touring like she is now – it only leaves her with scrambled eggs on her face when videos such as this emerge.
There remains room for Mariah in today’s modern musical climate. She’s an icon and possess a skill-set and pen-game that many of her touted replacements over the years could only wish for. Yet, if she’s ever to become commercially relevant again to today’s music buyers, she needs to sort out her “product” and problems pronto.
