Sadly, the late, great Whitney Houston is no longer with us. However, her legacy is being celebrated with the release of ‘Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances’ – which hit stores this week.

Pieced together by the diva’s longtime mentor Clive Davis, the retrospective set – which we’ve had on replay here at TGJ – is earning rave reviews from critics.

Whitney, of course, is tragically not here to bless the masses with more showcases of her iconic voice, however Davis called on one of today’s most gifted vocalists, Jennifer Hudson, to help him pay homage on the Today Show this morning.

The Oscar and Grammy winner was drafted in to perform the classic Nippy cut ‘One Moment In Time’.

Watch her soar after the jump…

Amazing.

This re-affirms why we’d prefer to see J.Hud serve up more mid-tempo’s and ballads. Musically, it provides the best vehicle to drive her voice.

Jennifer struggles to find relevance but this is why she will be around for many years to come. Notice she always books the top events to perform at. Not mad at u girl get that coin the way u know how. I’ll be buying this Whitney album.

Hooker, you are NOT the next Whitney! She’s nothing more than a tribute artist.

nothing more than a tribute artist exactly

I wish Jennifer would sing like this more! She has a beautiful voice but just gets lost in the music at times that she overdoes it. Also, I think Jennifer needs to find herself musically.

you can sing her songs a xillion times but you will NEVER be her. EVER.

Classy rendition and Jhud looks wonderful. I have always felt like Clive was trying to make her the next Whitney, but unfortunately Jhud’s voice just won’t match up.

why does jhud make everything sound like a negro spiritual?!!!

i see she politely avoided the song’s climax “you’re a winner…for a lifetime…if you seize that one moment in time”.

if you need proof of how this should be done, please reference whit’s 1989 performance at the Grammy’s.

Like for real, J Who grammy was planned and had Whit present it to her. The DAY the woman passes, JIVE Gayvis and J Flop were all over the place, pretty much trying to say, hey, this is the new voice. J Hub is nothing more than a AI singer that will over sing a song and lack character in a voice. I don’t get it, he had AK, why burn so much money on J Forgot when the public shows time after time that no one cares.

Outstanding. Performances like this remind me of how subpar J-Hud’s material usually is.

Jennifer has a great voice, amazing instrument
But sometimes it is way too much, and for such a big instrument one needs to have the most control over it. She doesn’t. So when singing a song by THE GREATEST she sounds like a big voiced woman instead of like a first class vocalist.

Good job and she looks cute too

  13. Dirty Laundry November 11, 2014

    Cant stand her voice

  14. Tru Voice November 11, 2014

I’m so sick of JHud and Clive having her at every Whitney event. Why ask Jenn to come? This is about Nippy. They should have showed Whitney’s performance of the song for a clip… smh. It’s not a tribute album, it’s an album of THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME performing some of her most memorable hits live. So Jenn, sweety, keep that weight watchers behind home. We;ll save you for another project.

    • Arcadia November 12, 2014

      yes!

      • JOHNVIDAL November 12, 2014

        Yes. Exactly.

  15. NOLIES November 12, 2014

A pathetic tribute act who can’t wait to off those Spanx backstage so she can breathe. That has to be the reason she’s doing all of that f****** yelling. Like b****, STFU! And why did this b**** sacrifice more people in her family than she sold in albums? The ill did her wrong didn’t they? LOL!

  16. JOHNVIDAL November 12, 2014

LOL But why? Whitney is so damn huge for this. Jennifer just released an album, didn´t she? Where is it? Why isn´t she working on her stuff? Proofs and more proofs that not one true legendary mainstream artist is doing it nowadays.
