R&B superstar Usher and Hip Hop’s Kanye West are to be celebrated by ‘Black Entertainment Television’ next year, named as two of the entertainers set to be honoured at the ‘BET Honors‘ for their respective contributions to entertainment and the world at large.

Good news below…

As Usher’s continued success in music earns him the ‘Musical Arts Award’, West will pick up the ‘Visionary Award’ for “his extraordinary contributions across the arts, including roles as a record producer, rapper, filmmaker and fashion designer.”

The ceremony will be held on January 24th in Washington, also celebrating the work of Phylicia Rashad, star of the groundbreaking sitcom ‘The Cosby Show‘, and movies ‘For Colored Girls‘ and ‘Frankie & Alice‘, in which she portrayed the mother of Halle Berry’s character, Frankie.

So he doesn’t deserve to be honored?

I think people forget that Usher had competition with the likes of Tevin Campbell, Ginuwine and Sisquo way back in the day. He outlasted all of them and managed to keep up a 20 year career. I don’t get the misplaced anger and hate people have for him on here. Congrats to Kanye and the lovely Phylicia Rashad! It’s ironic how the man who played her on-screen husband, Bill Cosby is having his legacy tarnished by these allegations and here she is getting an honorary award. I guess you can’t get too caught up on the persona one plays on screen.

Right! I think ppl use the whole crossover thing that he did that didn’t nevessarily fail but left many disappointed. But that in no way shape or form dies it discredit his stamp and influence on R&B in general and his status as an R&B legend. Cuz let’s face it, w/o MJ there no Usher, and moreover, without Usher there would be no CB, August, Trey, Omarion, hell even JB or JT… And the list goes on. So ppl need to give our legends like Mariah & Usher some f****** slack bc it’s for that reason that the less talented are getting too much hype over nothing. (I.e. See Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, etc etc)
