Call it coincidence or just good timing, but just as her new album, ‘Reality Show,’ is due to hit shelves on January 13th, Jazmine Sullivan took to our friends over at VIBE to pay homage to Whitney Houston (whose biographical film is due just days later on January 17th).

Before fans of either diva can get their hands on their latest offerings, tuck in below to hear Sullivan share a rousing rendition of Houston’s famed hit ‘I Have Nothing’ from ‘The Bodyguard Soundtrack.’  Putting her signature melismatic flair on the tune, see her show Jennifer Lopez how covers are supposed to be delivered.

It all awaits after the jump:

Of course sum stan had to bring Bey into the equation. In her own way, she can sleigh this song as Jasmine did. I luv this rendition simply because Jasmine sang the song as tho it was hers and not try and mimic Whitney like every other sumbody does. There is only 1 Whitney!

Jazmine Sullivan’s songs just soothe my soul. We still need a new single though. Can’t wait to hear the album! 🙂

This is why I go so hard for Jaz. She is a vocal beast.

The REAL Vocal Bible= Jazmine Sullivan

  15. Gee January 5, 2015

Salute to Jazmine for doing this cover justice and making it her own oppose to mimicking Whitney from top to bottom.

  16. Bravo!! January 5, 2015

I love her cover of Whitney song, but I felted like jasmine was holding back a little.

  17. Meteorite January 5, 2015

Fabulous!!!! Now this ladies and gentlemen is the difference between a “Cover” and a “Rendition” Jazmine’s rendition was pure smooth jazz and r&b with a nice wink to Whitney. While other people who try to cover this try to match Whitney note for note and fail…hard. Likewise Sam Smith rendition of “How Will I Know” was breathtaking and made it his. My word if only radio could take note from Ms. Jazmine!!!

    • Erotica January 5, 2015

Right!!! I luv dat she sang da song so soft & beautifully & ain’t try 2 sound like Whitney & jus sound excatly like herself! Dats how u do a cover 100%

I preordered jazmine’s album. I wait anxiously for the next 8 days to go by until my download begins and I get my life!

  19. Mark111 January 6, 2015

Hands down the best cover. I LOVE that she made it her own, while others tried so hard to mimic Whitney, which is a fail because NO ONE can sound like The Voice.

  20. JOHNVIDAL January 6, 2015

Whitney girl!!! Everytime I think about her whole story, talent and success… too much!
These girls covering Whitney only prove again and again why she is/was Whitney Houston, probably the best.
But hey this girl did nice.

  21. Sherry January 6, 2015

Her vocals slay. I can’t wait to cop her album next week.
