In the space of one year, British belter Sam Smith has rocketed to the top the Pop ranks. And with debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ enjoying mega-sales and Grammy nominations, the 22-year-old’s career looks set to blast into the stratosphere this year.
V Magazine celebrates Smith’s success by honoring him as part of their ‘The New Sound Of Soul’ special, which hits newsstands this month.
Inside the publication, the Londoner is interviewed by the legendary Chaka Khan and interestingly reflects on some of the darker sides of the music industry – namely how “awful” some of his contemporaries are behind the scenes.
His words below…
Via DS:
“Even when you meet them – I won’t name names – but some of these popstars are just awful.
And they have not even had half the success that you’ve had and yet you’re so humble and kind.”
To which Khan replied: “Well, it’s people skills. Talking to a screen all day long takes the human experience out. Luckily I grew up in a time when we only had a telephone at home.”
The pair also expressed an interest in collaborating together in the future.
“We are definitely going to write a song together,” Khan added.
“100%, I’m in,” he replied. “I was actually thinking me, you, and Mary [J Blige] would do something.”
Smith recently hinted at working with Rihanna.
