Katy Perry To Perform At Grammys / Enjoys 92% Post-SuperBowl Sales Gain As Missy Elliott’s Surges To 1000%

Ok, now it’s official – Missy Elliott won the Super Bowl.

As if her sh0w-stealing cameo at the Katy Perry-headlined halftime show wasn’t enough, the social media response was so overwhelming it not only prompted for calls for new music from the rap diva, but also sparked renewed interest in older material from her catalog.

We reported earlier this week that Miss saw a huge leap iTunes USA’s top 10  immediately following her hit-filled performance.  Now, as official numbers roll in, while Perry’s pop hits saw a commendable 92% sales gain, Elliott – on the other hand – saw a gain ten times greater than her ‘Last Friday Night’ co-star.

Apparently being part of the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show seems to have its perks.  Read more below:

Three days ago, Billboard reported the rapstress was en route to enjoying a 1000% sales gain post-Super Bowl. Official reports see her come just shy of the industry prediction:

“…Perry’s albums and song downloads earned a 92 percent sales gain in the United States, according to Nielsen Music. Elliot, meanwhile, tallied a whopping 996 percent rise.

Perry sold a total of 121,000 albums and song downloads in the week ending Feb. 1. Of that figure, 21,000 were albums and 100,000 were song downloads.

Elliott sold a combined 73,000 albums and song downloads for the week. Of that figure, 2,000 were albums and 71,000 were song downloads.

Perry’s top-selling song of the Feb. 1 week was her halftime-opening tune “Roar,” which sold just over 17,000 downloads.  Two of Elliott’s songs actually outsold “Roar,” as “Work It” shifted 21,000 downloads (up 1,861 percent) and “Get Ur Freak On” moved 19,000 downloads (up 1,625 percent). The third song Elliott performed during halftime, “Lose Control,” sold 17,000 (up 1,775 percent).” (source)

As their Super Bowl co-star Lenny Kravitz also enjoyed a 111% sales gain of albums and songs, news surfaces that the show’s headliner will be bringing her pop hits to the Grammy stage. Joining the likes of Madonna, Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, and more, Perry will reportedly be on hand to sing her new ballad ‘By the Grace of God.’

I’m a huge Missy fan but do you not see the fault in this article?
The tracks missy performed are 10 years+ old and not a part of the “download generation”. Anyone with common sense can realise that more people would already have Roar or Dark Horse on their iTunes. Nobody “won”.

Maybe people already had physical copies of these “winning” missy elliott tracks or just remember them from their youth and wanted to purchase a digital copy.

It was good exposure for both artists of different genres, missy’s being more credible and therefore, perhaps unfortunately, more commendable.

Please stop pitching artists against each other, its so boring.

      FINALLY A SMART PERSON!

    • Slayty Perry (Superbowl Queen) February 5, 2015

Exactly. Its like I said in the last Katy post, she has sold more digital records than ANY of her Superbowl performing predecessors so of course her increase won’t but as much as someone’s who career began back in the 90s. Not to mention Missy has a more extensive discography to revive. This is just another attempt by TGJ to downplay Katy’s slayage because she did better than their favs.

Missy bring yo ass back show these “rappers” how its done!

  6. Slayty Perry (Superbowl Queen) February 5, 2015

TGJ still trying to downplay Katy’s Superbowl slayage because it outperformed their favs. Poor that! Both artists won the Superbowl. You forget Katy Perry is the top selling digital artist, of course her increase won’t be as large as a an artist who had their peak in the “physical age” of music. I’m so excited to hear that Katy will be performing By the Grace of God, it is my favorite song off Prism. When she performed it at the iHeart Radio concert the week before Prism was released, it was her best performance.

Why are the Perry stans soo salty, Like damn. Someone plz pass the salt! It was a nice show, they both win. But for the older more established artist, its a double win for her, Redemption in a way. She was exposed to an entire new generation and they took a liking to her music as the rediscovered her great classics. katy wins too! But no reason to be so salty and shady toward Missy!

So in other words, Missy is the one who should have headlined this show, with Katie appearing as her guest. Most of the talk is centered about Missy and how she basically stole Katie’s stage from her. Let this be a lesson to the NFL…next year, don’t try and book some random pop star of the moment. Go with someone who has an extensive discography and respect.

As always these “digital queens” failing to sell as many albums as cheap singles LOL
And why should she perform at the grammys? She´s always appalling. Has she decent nominations to begin with? Desperate for popularity. That´s what I don´t like from grammys for the last 10 years.

I’m thrilled that both Missy and Lenny got love from this performances, they both SLAYED! When Lenny started singing I didn’t realize it was a Katy Perry song until the hook, it sounded so good! Both Missy and Lenny brought the entertainment, and they didn’t need the circus tricks. Yes, NFL, PLEASE ONLY BOOK TALENT AND LEGACIES!! Regardless, of rather not they’ve been current/active in the last ten years.
