How mucky is Rihanna‘s new album campaign?
Delayed dates have been followed by so-so singles – and now scrapped performances can reportedly be added to the list.
A multitude of sources had confirmed that the 27-year-old had been tapped to perform at tonight’s BRIT Awards in London.
However, major UK publications are reporting this morning that the Puma model has dropped out from the gig – with just one day notice. Her Roc Nation comrade Kanye West has reportedly been drafted in last minute as a replacement.
The Daily Mail wrote:
The surprise move comes after the annual awards bash was plunged into chaos following the S&M singer’s random no-show at rehearsals on Monday.
Fortunately, music industry bosses were able to thrash out a desperate deal with Kanye, 37, after it was revealed he was already in the country and available.
Now, insiders say he will deliver an elaborate, high-tech performance complete with a huge ensemble of professional dancers to fill the void.
A backstage source told MailOnline: ‘BRIT bosses were understandably disappointed that Rihanna was a no-show, but – after some initial panic – they’re delighted to have found a solution in Kanye.
‘In fact, they know he’s a huge star and won’t simply just fill her shoes – but he’ll own the stage and stun fans with one of the biggest performances of the year.
‘Now, more than ever, everyone’s determined to make the event exceed industry expectations.’
We must preface by saying that, in all fairness to Rih, she was never formally announced as a performer.
Yet, that doesn’t automatically invalidate the “drop out” stories; as it’s becoming routine for certain major names to not confirm appearances ahead of time and simply let news outlets generate hype for them with speculation. One needn’t look further than almost all of Beyonce‘s showings over the last year for evidence of this.
With that, we wouldn’t be surprised if this was an elaborate rouse to maximise the “surprise” factor if Ms. Fenty does show. Still, given how confused and confusing Rih’s whole project appears to be, playing such games wouldn’t be smart.
…and, yet, neither would dropping out.
Again, a mess.
