New Line Cinema has signed on to release a Christmas movie starring ‘Honey’ singer Mariah Carey this year, joining forces with the star to take her latest big screen dream to life.
Good news below…
The plan is for Carey to play a major role in the film. The project came about when Carey brought an idea to RatPac principal and her pal Brett Ratner. The yuletide is special for Carey, who wrote and performed “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” a 1994 tune that has sold more than 14 million copies globally to become the biggest holiday perennial in recent memory and the biggest international hit of Carey’s career.
It’s a reconnect for the writers with Ratner; they collaborated on the 2000 Ratner-directed hit TheFamily Man, which starred Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni. They are keeping the plot of the Xmas film under wraps, but the holiday is at the film’s center, along with a theme of how the power of music can transport you back in time to your truest and most authentic feelings. The plan is to include songs from all different artists in addition to songs by Carey.
Shestack will produce with Ratner, and James Packer and John Cheng of RatPac Entertainment will executive produce. Toby Emmerich and Walter Hamada will oversee for New Line Cinema.
