Wiz Khalifa‘s ‘See You Again’ has done far more than top the UK and US singles chart this month.

For, as it blocks Mark Ronson‘s and  Bruno Mars‘Uptown Funk‘ from spending another week atop the Billboard Hot 100, the song has earned the record for scoring the most plays in one day on the music streaming service Spotify.

Brilliant news below…

The number was pulled from the ‘Furious 7‘ soundtrack and plays in the final scene of the movie, prompting the flick’s fans to head over to Spotify and stream it 4.2 million times in a single day.

Its success parallels that of the movie’s, nabbing the record as the release became the first the film to cross the $1 billion earned worldwide mark by Universal Pictures.

Atlantic Records CEO Craig Kallman shares:

This is one of those special moments when all the forces have aligned to create a song that is resonating emotionally with millions around the world. The combination of Wiz’s star power with the introduction of Charlie as a brilliant singer and songwriter is truly magical, striking a nerve with Paul Walker’s legion of fans and the film’s enormous audience. All of us at Atlantic are thrilled and gratified by the response that this moving tribute has received from Spotify’s global listeners.

Charlie Puth is what even makes this song special at all, but let’s ignore the only guy actually singing and playing an instrument in the song.

And before you haters try the “he’s the featured artist” excuse, remember that Bruno Mars is the feature in ‘Uptown Funk’ and he gets just as much credit as Mark Ronson.
