Breaking News: Janet Jackson Launches Rhythm Nation Record Label / Will Release New Album In The Fall

Published: Wednesday 3rd Jun 2015 by Sam

Breaking news from Janet Jackson just in…

Via JJ.com:

NEW YORK/BERLIN, 3 JUNE 2015 – BMG is proud to announce that it will release the first album in seven years from Janet Jackson, icon, music artist, B.E.T honored, award-winning songwriter, producer, singer, Oscar and Golden Globe nominee and winner of the NAACP Best Supporting Actor award, publisher, dancer, businessperson, philanthropist and one of biggest-selling artists in popular music history.

The worldwide partnership with Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation will see the release in Fall 2015 of her first as-yet-untitled album and a commitment to pursue the full range of options within the broader Bertelsmann group of which BMG is part. With Rhythm Nation Janet Jackson becomes arguably the first female African-American recording artist to form her own record label. At Rhythm Nation Janet plans to offer a home to both new and established recording artists.

The partnership with BMG makes Janet Jackson the biggest worldwide superstar yet to quit the traditional record label system for a so-called artist services deal, designed to put artists in the driving seat. Unlike a traditional record deal, under an artist services deal the artist retains ownership of their recordings and full oversight of all costs and revenues.

With sales of over 160 million records worldwide, Janet Jackson stands as one of the best-selling artists of all time as well as one of the most awarded with a string of hits that have left an indelible impression on pop culture. Her lengthy string of hits has powerfully influenced popular music, leaving an indelible impression on pop culture and opening doors through which other top artists have followed, many acknowledging her impact on their musical perceptions.

BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said, “Janet is not just a supreme artist, she is a unique cultural force whose work resonates around the world. It is an honor that she has chosen BMG to release her long-awaited new album. We look forward to collaborating with her across every platform.”

Janet commented, “Thank you to the talented team at BMG, my new artistic home. The opportunity to be creative in music and every form of entertainment has great potential here.”

Jon Cohen, EVP of Recorded Music at BMG Chrysalis US said, “Janet is a cultural icon and pop star like no other. The release of her long-awaited new album will undoubtedly be one of the musical highlights of 2015. It is an honor to work with her.”

The announcement comes two weeks after Jackson revealed plans for the new album and world tour.

    • Aaron June 3, 2015

Wow. I’ve been missing Janet Jackson 1986-2004. “So excited” for a new Janet album. I didn’t love the last two, but that’s only because Control-Damita Jo were so strong. It’s almost impossible to follow up those first six albums. But I’m ready for her musical return. No female made albums like Velvet Rope and Rhythm Nation. Welcome back Queen of Pop and R&B.

Go Janet but Ashanti has had ger own label for A while .

    • TheElusiveLamb June 3, 2015

A lot of artists have or had their own labels, but how many of them are actually successful? Take your time answering that.

So. U biitch. Ashanti sucks…and so does yo mammy

Ashanti, as well as others, label was under a mother label. Ashanti’s was under Entertainment One Music. Janet is not under a mother label, Rhythm Nations records is the mother label.

What?…..I know some black girls who only date white guys but didn’t know about black gays.

      • LB June 3, 2015

Ya, there are black gay guys that only date white guys exclusively, never understood why. I find gay politics is complicated, but very interesting to read.

      • S****** Blonde June 3, 2015

That’s so wrong, i don’t even care about the physical appareance of a person, as long as you talk to me, i’m fine, it’s all about your brain for me, if you what i mean.

  15. S****** Blonde June 3, 2015

The way some people talk about her, like she was this global phenomenon when in reality she never made a big impact outside of the USA, especially in Europe and Latin America. Beyoncé and Rihanna are more well known worldwide than Janet ever was + her sales are the lowest among her peers. She is a great artist but if you think Janet is or ever was a Britney, or a Gaga for that matter, you don’t really know what a global megastar means, Whitney, Mariah, Celine and a few others were true megastars around the world.

      • S****** Blonde June 3, 2015

Not gonna argue about her impact on american artists, not only that she was also “the queen” for Africans Americans until they replaced her with Beyoncé, decision that i would never understand but then again i’m not black, lol.

      • LB June 3, 2015

LOL never underestimate the power of Beyonce’s media machine I guess. I will give her props on that, she knows how to play the media game, a valuable skill Matthew taught her.

      • Legend B June 3, 2015

Beyonce = Voice, Moves, and Presence! No other Biitch delivers All three so Hard!!

    • B Lamont June 3, 2015

U don’t sell 160 million records worldwide without being a global success my friend. Those are U.S. sales alone. Bey and Rhi are because Janet has and continues. The argument is moot and non-comparable. That’s like comparing Janet to Diana. U don’t take away Diana’s accomplishments because Janet came after her.

      • B Lamont June 3, 2015

Correction: those are NOT U.S. sales alone.

      • Faf June 3, 2015

        Exactly
How was Janet not a global icon

    • Stephy. June 3, 2015

It’s actually shocking seeing how local she was… I hate that. Cause, her albums shitts on EVERY Britney Spears & Gaga albums…. Who knows.. Maybe Janet wasn’t shocking enough or just got overshadowed by Madonna’s antics.

      • LB June 3, 2015

I just think her dance numbers didn’t really catch on, she promoted her RnB hits too much, which worked in her favour in the US because RnB was huge then.

Her music shits on a lot of girls’ music, The Velvet Rope alone is an album I put on the level of The miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Ray of light.

I’m glad she took a long break though, the Jacksons were a media target for a while, the Kardashians are good for something I guess.

      • S****** Blonde June 3, 2015

        😀

    • LOL June 3, 2015

LOL GURL BYE. YOU’RE JUST SEETHING BECAUSE MANDINOSAUR IS A FLOP AND REBEL FLOP IS DEAD JUST LIKE HER CAREER. JANET IS WORLD RENOWNED, DEAR. ALWAYS HAS BEEN. THOSE 160 MILLION SALES ARE GLO-BAL SALES, SO SIT LOL

      • RANCOR June 3, 2015

I’d be willing to bet that Janet’s album won’t sell as much as Rebel Heart did though. Oh, and Madonna has sold over 375 million WW. Sort of trumps that 160 figure, but you go ahead and have this moment. Pretend that a huge comeback for MJ’s sister is looming, when in reality this is gonna be her BRAVEHEART. lol

    • pat June 3, 2015

“When I grow up I want to be huge in Europe”. Said NO ONE EVER. It’s an overrated market at number 3….no shade…Janet has had the US and Japan (2nd largest market) wrapped around her fingers most of her career, Australia loves her…. the list goes on…..

    • truth(nicki the reason AI is cancelled and Meek playn ha!!) June 3, 2015

U r such a F A G!! OMG!! But u praise that oooooooold relic dragonfaced ho Madge. Giiiurl BYE!!! U not worth anyMORE of my time. Sissy

    • Royalkev June 3, 2015

Absolutely hilarious! I love watching these pressed souls try to undermine certain artists success because they’re feeling threatened. You don’t sell near 20 million albums 3 times in a a row (Control/RN/Janet.) and not making a global impact. Janet was one o the biggest touring artists of the 80’s and 90’s. Also this tactic that people use to place Janet and Beyonce against each other conveniently to have “one reigning black Queen” is a bit ridiculous. Did we say Britney was the new queen when she moved Madonna over or Gaga was when she owed became “the biggest pop star on the planet”. Janet has sold 160 million records with fewer albums than ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HER PEERS. Do the math, if she had 3 more release in between her 3-4 year lengthy breaks (during her prime), she could have easily sat at 200 million right along with everyone else.

      • Royalkev June 3, 2015

Please excuse the errors, I’m in a rush.

    • Royalkev June 3, 2015

… And here’s just another tidbit: Janet and Madonna both sold in the 20+ million regions with their studio albums WW peaks! Madonna reached 30 million with ONLY the release of her first greatest hits compilation (1990)… Whitney/Celine/Mariah produced eras that generated 30 – 50 million in WW sales. This alone isn’t the only factor in determining “how big” or local an artists is or who was the pop queen, but I just think people gloss over this fact to embellish their favs winning streaks.

  16. RihNaj June 3, 2015

Yasssssssss Miss Jackson!! She need to get a collab from Ciara, Nicki & RihRih ???? I’d literally die ????

  17. Dre June 3, 2015

You all are not understanding this MOVEMENT. Yes other women (Mariah Carey and Mary J. for example) had had their own vanity labels. Which is just a subsidiary of their major label deal. They didn’t OWN it. Madonna had part ownership of Maverick Records. Janet is going to be the SOLE owner of RN Records which will be its own entity. Also I believe Betty Wright was actually the first black woman to OWN her own record label though. GO JANET!

    • SpeaksTruth June 3, 2015

Janet’s total record sales are over 160 mil. Her US record sales are at about 60 mil. That over 160 mil in international sales. That doesn’t include her sold out international shows. That is quite impressive for a “local” artist.

  30. Tranet Ghost whisper jackson June 3, 2015

This is great. She has a masters of ownership. Only the smart one’s have those, especially someone like Rihanna for example, who has it on her second recording contract, and was virtually unknown and not in one of the best-selling girl group of all time. 🙂

“she promoted her R&B hits too much, which worked in her favour in the US because RnB was huge then.”

Finally! You get it! Remember you use to bash Mariah Carey for not having “GLobal” #1’s… But, only achieving multiple #1’s in North America (Canada/USA)… That’s because Mariah was R&B fused with LIGHT Pop. R&B music was NEVER a huge seller globally. Especially, back in those days! If you look at all the TOP R&B legends/artist (Mary J, Monica, Brandy, Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott etc…). You will see how 80% of their success comes from NORTH AMERICA. Hardly ANY of those artist achieved massive success throughout racist (YES I SAID IT) European markets.

The only times OUR (black) artist achieved monster success throughout Europe… Was when we bleached our skin, wear blonde weaves & WHITE WASHED OUR BLACK SOUND… With corny ass Pop/Dance shitt & bubblegum trash EDM songs… That’s exactly why WHITNEY HOUSTON got her ass boo’ed at the Soul Train 1989 awards. Cause she was selling out to the whites… In order to score “global” hits such as “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” & “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”… Mariah Carey (even tho she practically LOOKED like a white woman) still had trouble scoring GLOBAL success until she sold out in 1993’s “MUSIC BOX” LP <—– That album made her a household name throughout Europe due to it's "elevator white washed CELINE DION-ish type sob power ballads… Also, using that same formula CELINE DION/WHITNEY HOUSTON used with taking OLD SONGS & turning them into THEATRICAL OVER THE TOP POWER BALLADS… Such as Without You, It's All Coming Back To Me Now & Greatest Love Of All….

Rihanna & Michael Jackson are the only true SINGLES global BLACK artist EVER. Especially, Michael. Many of his R&B tracks SLAYED on a global basis. But, it's EXTREMELY hard to do.

Europeans have different tastes in music, that doesn’t make them racist. Europe is more open-minded than both african and white americans will ever be. My family are from Sweden, my cousins and the rest are the nicest people. They are cool with everyone, not matter their race, not talking just about my family but almost all swedes are nice people. I used to visit them with my parents every summer, i didn’t wanted to go back to the US.

I guess so… I just find it funny how Michael Jackson is pretty much the only REALLY success BLACK artist throughout Europe. I mean, Whitney had her success with the EXTREMELY white washed 1987 LP & Bodyguard… And, Rihanna had massive success with her SINGLES… But, why can’t black artist sell ALBUMS & SINGLES massively throughout Europe like Celine Dion, Madonna, Elton John, Adele (who sings SOUL SOUL SOUL I REPEAT SOUL music), The Beatles, Pink Floyd etc… has achieved OVER & OVER & OVER & OVER again… I mean, Celine Dion sales are just ridiculous. “Lets Talk About Love” is a HORRIBLE album filled with sappy ass forgettable love ballads. But, sells 12,000,000+ ALBUMS throughout Europe. Really? Adele sings BLACK SOUL music and scored the 3rd or 4th best selling album in the UK history. And, sells almost 15,000,000+ ALBUMS throughout Europe singing SOUL music. Lol.

Why’s it that Michael Jackson is the ONLY black legend in the top 10 best selling artist of all times list. Hmmmm MJ is literally the ONLY true MASSIVE artist of color, period. Meanwhile, whites have The Beatles, Elvis, Elton, Madonna, Celine, LEd Zeppelin etc…

      • S****** Blonde June 3, 2015

I get what you mean but white artists are overall more successful everywhere, not only Europe, even in Asia, so that is the question of the millennium.

  39. Amanda D. June 3, 2015

I’m so proud of Janet!!! Even if I wasn’t a Janet fan, I’d STILL be proud of her!!! She’s now the very first African-American female artist to OWN her OWN record label and retain the rights to ALL of her music!!!

    • Tranet Ghost whisper jackson June 3, 2015

Yayyyy. Now she can’t blame anybody but her marginally talented self when her album ships cooper ????????????

  40. RoyalKev June 3, 2015

Leave it to Janet! Making history with RN records …slay a bit! Finally a more honest count of her records total (160 million), slay some more JJ! 2015 better give Damita what she’s owed!!!

  41. Stephy. June 3, 2015

Somebody shoot this Janet-Hating troll in the HEAD please. Thxs.

  42. Ellie_Lights_93 June 3, 2015

I hope yall are here for the music, because huge numbers and high chart positions are unlikely. She created her own little indie cove to funnel music through. Nothing about this is major.

    • Keri Qween June 3, 2015

Death@you f*** trolling under multiple usernames

Of course were here for the music dumbass that’s what y’all don’t understand

The fact that people want music from Janet at this point speaks volumes about her artistry

The Pot Calling The Kettle Black ????????????????????????

  44. Gee June 3, 2015

Glad to see that Janet is going independent after the mess that was her last few years at Virgin and her short lived tenure at Island. While a bold move it can also pay off handsomely only time will tell. If I’m being honest I believe the touring revenue will be the big winner her opposed to the actual album sales as no one is buying music other than Taylor Swift fans.

  45. Mark111 June 3, 2015

Didn’t I say these artists better go independent? These labels ain’t sh1t. Great name, so fitting. A Queen owns her ish. Let that sink in.

  46. Avi June 3, 2015

So we’re just overlooking how this supposed icon/legend had to resort to going independent and pretending that this is some massive achievement she’s embarking on when in reality this is some small scale “Written Entertainment” type sh-t? Sure, I guess it’s good for her that she’ll retain a bigger piece of whatever profits she generates, but this ain’t some label she formed through RCA or Republic or something. And I have a sinking suspicion that it was her husband who bankrolled most of funding for this little operation for her.

    • Shady81 June 3, 2015

Billshit the lies you tell your damn self. And how do you know all this? dare I ask.

  47. Casual-T June 3, 2015

Janet should be encouraged by the sheer number of comments on here. She hasn’t had a successful album in a while, but I think it’s time for her again. I’m ready.

  48. Slay_Hive June 3, 2015

With all the hype being created around her, the music and performing better be good.

  49. Petra June 3, 2015

If this were Nicole Scherzinger announcing she was launching “Don’t Hold Your Breath Records” or Ciara announcing she was gonna start “1, 2 Step Records” outside of the major label system, you’d all be laughing. But because it’s Janet, you’re acting like she just took over Sony or something. Established acts don’t just go independent for the hell of it. They do it because they either couldn’t find another major label willing to sign them, or couldn’t find one that would give them a deal with the amenities they want. Now you know why it took her so long to return.

    • Shady81 June 3, 2015

You don’t know that she probably had this idea probably since 2006 or so after Virgin Records went bankrupt and her contract with them was up I mean when Janet first came out she was on a very independent label have you ever heard of A&M Records before she signed with Virgin Records or are you that brand new She possible got alot of advice from some great successful people who knows how to run a successful record
Company and what it takes to keep a successful record company naming a few Richard Branson, Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis(for the production field) Prince Herb Alpert hell probably even Barry Gordy as well you just don’t know and Janet’s not the only legend to go independent here’s a few who went Independent David Bowie, Prince, Herb Alpert, Dr. DRE Eminem even Michael Jackson had his own label under sony but still had something that was his. Anyways Janet doesn’t have to come out every year or two to do an album like these new artists or shall I say new generation of artists she didn’t do it then so why in the hell should she try to do it now.

      • jtpop June 3, 2015

A&M was a major label for Janet’s entire stint there, and had a significant market share between her and other major acts like Sting. They were independently owned with major distribution deal (like XL and Cash Money) with RCA in the US and CBS/Sony worldwide. They were then bought out by PolyGram — now Universal — in 1989, weeks after the release of Rhythm Nation. Janet’s music has never truly been independently handled. She always belonged to a major label system, until now.

    • Mark111 June 3, 2015

Well for one, the way the gilrs you named sell (or lack there of), they should go inde. Two, they don’t have the 25 year career that Janet has, Janet has the name and the catalog to sell and tour with. Touring is where the dollars at, ask Beyonce and Madonna. I’m sure Madonna is on a major because she simply doesn’t care about her music and seeing her sales of her last few albums, the fans don’t ether. Her music is just promo for her tour. Janet owns her masters of ALL her albums, labels today are a % of everything, so why would she go back to one? Most arist over 40 are inde, This is what Mariah should had done, but she still thinks she’s 20.

      • Shady81 June 3, 2015

I totally agree @Mark 111 and Mariah is also a well accomplished song writer a nd producer for the body of work that she has but some want control of their hard work that they’ve put in. And then there are those who want to continue on being controlled maybe Mariah will wise in up maybe she won’t

      • Shady81 June 3, 2015

The same statement goes for Madonna as well she should leave Tidal and revamp/revivalize Maverick but llike you said @Mark 111 Madonna just doesn’t care anymore and neither does her fans.

  50. Mark111 June 3, 2015

Janet is the only female that had the longest run of success out of all her peers. From Control 1986 to after All For You in 2003, that’s 17 years of top success. And I’m talking no flops in between. Mariah had 11 years before her flop from 1990 to 2001, Madonna was dead in the 90s, so what? 10 years? Britney went crazy after 5, Beyonce flopped with 4 on the 8th year. Rihanna is on year 10, Gaga fail at 5, Ciara at 3. Name another woman that had 17 years of success other than Janet? Plus she only release two albums in the 90’s while others had how many? (Looks at Mariah).

    • Royalkev June 3, 2015

I think I might agree with you Mark! But why did you count “4” as a flop, but overlook “Rated R”? I hate adding to the Bey/Rih drama around here (especially since people go on forever with it), but both albums did 3 million ww.

      • Mark111 June 3, 2015

Because Rihanna had two top 10s and a #1. The album sold just as much as her later albums WW. People forget the rock and I mean rocky start that 4 had and then she got pregnant. I dunno, maybe you can throw it in there, it’s still 12 years of running. But you can say the same about Glitter, so what you think?

      • Slay_Hive June 3, 2015

So because 4 didn’t have any top tens or number ones, its a flop, even though it sold as much as Rated R? If anything that makes Rihanna sales look basic. She should have sold more since we’re going with that logic.

      • Mark111 June 3, 2015

Ok, Rihanna released Loud in 2010, huge era. 4 came out 6 months later, by the time TTT came out 6 months after 4, no one was talking about 4. Two of Rihanna era completely shadowed 4. People can’t even name a big song from 4 outside of the fan base.

      • Lolz June 3, 2015

How do you know what people can name? Did you speak to them? Those same ‘people’ probably don’t know the difference in eras. And nerve of you calling for 4 messy when it flowed much more clearly and smoothly than your faves current soon to be flop. You’re speaking out your ass, all personal opinion.

    • KatyCat June 3, 2015

      Her album will flop.

    • Royalkev June 3, 2015

Nah, Mark! LOL. They’re either both flops or both hit eras. You have to pick one or the other. I often like how you think, but your reaching now!

      • Royalkev June 3, 2015

As for Glitter (gold in 2001), no bueno!

    • Royalkev June 3, 2015

What do you think carry more weigh? Album sales or single success?

      • Mark111 June 3, 2015

It’s a mixture of both. It all plays a factor, it’s an era as a whole. Some use the excuse that singles doesn’t matter, but that what sales and drives the era. So does tours and performances.
        .
4 was a messy era with a ruff start, no tours (unless you count the first half of the Mrs Cater) and the singles were lackluster (even tho I love the album). Success wise, 4 is her Glitter, she change her team and we all know what happens when artist does that, which may be the reason R8 is a mess right now, we’ll see. 4 was short lived. And for people saying well she sold the same as Rated R, don’t you all hold Beyonce to a higher standard? Her fans words, not mine.

    • Royalkev June 3, 2015

Interesting reasoning, I’m totally not in agreement with it (but I won’t bash you for that). I was always under the impression that the singles purpose is to generate buzz to set the artists album up for success. It’s like your on first base (with a hit), maybe 3rd (with a #1 single ), but it’s a home run (when you earn a hit album). So many one-hit-wonders have hits/#1’s, but not many of them sold albums. Look at recent some chart history: Flo Rida, LMAFO, Baauer and Pitbull owned the Hot 100 and didn’t produce platinum albums! Yea, Bey didn’t rack up a bunch of top tens (btw, I’m not saying that the Hot 100 chart isn’t significant), but B sold 1.4 million in the end. In other words she STILL made it to 4th base! Your speaking of how long Bey’s era lasted and comparing it to Rihanna’s (and a standard the Hive supposedly set), but none of that will come into play when people look at the record books 10, 20 years from now. The number are numbers for ‘4’, there won’t be a footnote about Rihanna or Bey’s previous eras.

      • Mark111 June 3, 2015

Different times, if both albums sold the same, yet one had 3 top ten hits, who had the bigger era? Rihanna. And you named Flo and Pit, they’re the reason why albums doesn’t matter anymore. Most rather spend 99 cent vs $10 (I’m not one of them). I bet no more than 5 artist have plat album on the hot 100 right now.
        .
Another thing, Rihanna nor Beyonce are known for albums or body of work. 4 and Rated R are their best albums, but we’re debating if their flops or not. Outside of the fan base, Beyonce is known for Crazy In Love, Single Ladies and Irreplaceable. While Rihanna is known for Umbrella, We Found Love and whatever 99 hits she has. You speak of their hits, not albums. For exp, when you speak of Janet, MC, Madonna, MJ, Prnce, you don’t name their hits, you name their ALBUMS. Adele will be known for her albums, same with Hill, Tupac,, A Keys TLC and others. So in closing, when you ae known for your hits vs your albums, then the hits matter as much or even more than albums. imo, it all counts and the era as a whole is what matters.

      • Lolz June 3, 2015

Your logic is b*******. What an artist is ‘known for’ is entirely own to personal experience. It does not have to go to #1 for it to be remebered. Halo, Listen and Rub the World 99% of Rihannas hits.

    • Legend B June 3, 2015

Lies Lil Biitch. 4 wasnt a flop. If 4 flopped then All of Rihoeanna albums flopped, except for GGGB. Also All For You came out in 2001, not 03. Rihoeanna flopped in her 6th year with Rated Flop. The Queen was in her 9th year when 4 was released. You’re one delusional f@@g ????????????????????????????

    • Shady81 June 3, 2015

All for You came out In 2001 not 2003 @Mark111 so that’s 15 years after Janet’s control era in 1986 at that point Janet was 19 years in the music game which her first LP came out in 1982 Self titled Janet Jackson.

  51. cocobutta June 3, 2015

Go listen to Katy’s nursery rhymes.

  53. eric June 3, 2015

Hopefully she shakes things up with a new team of choreographers and an album that actually tries to do something instead of having a bunch of random songs.

  54. MUSICHEAD June 3, 2015

And THIS is how u shut the game DOWN! She is now her own boss. She decides what the budget for promo will be, who directs the videos, how many singles to release and she doesn’t have to give up a chunk of her touring revenue to a record label. Get it Donk!

  55. ~The Arcade~ June 3, 2015

“With Rhythm Nation Janet Jackson becomes arguably the first female African-American recording artist to form her own record label.” >>> This is NOT true, because Mya and Ashanti both have their own labels as well, however they chose to be independent… but nonetheless, congratulations Ms. Jackson!!! ???????? I’m so excited for her return.

    • Child… June 3, 2015

Lol, they’re not on Janet’s level.

      • Shaggy June 3, 2015

Janet has no level. That’s why she had to go this route. No real label is gonna sign a 50 year old pop star who hasn’t had a hit in 15 years. Less than 30k 1st wk. watch.

      • Vandrea June 3, 2015

See how the spinzone works? Janet is no where close to being “the first” African American female to have her own record label. Please. It’s not even “arguable” that she is. She’s not.

    • SpeaksTruth June 4, 2015

Mya and Ashanti’s label was a sub label of a major label. Rhythm Nation records is the mother label. She does not have anyone over her. That’s the difference.

      • UMo June 4, 2015

First of all, neither Mya or Ashanti are currently affiliated with any major label. Both are operating very independently, so their imprints are not too far removed from what Janet’s doing. Second of all, so what if they were? It’s always better to have major label distribution if you can get it.

I swear, you people are in here acting like she just created a 4th major label or is on some innovative s***. Any Tom, D*** or Harry can start a boutique record label. All you need is an name, a copyright, and a mailing address. She’s just doing what most over-40 singers do who want to continue their career long after they peak do and industry interest is low.

  56. melle June 3, 2015

have you ever heard of chrisette michele and rich hipster?…i love janet but she’s not the first with a label.

  62. J-Timberlake-Fan#1 June 4, 2015

This is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo friggin funny!!!!! Its like she tried to set it up so now she has a REASON to flop when it happens. When it does under 50K her 10 stans are gonna be like “it did well for an independent release” blahblahblah. Just retire already.

    • Shady81 June 4, 2015

B**** shut up has Justin Timberlake stop using black people to help keep him famous or is he just starting….. nope he’s been using black folks since the start of his solo career Ala Michael Jackson.
