I now see that the fact your parents are ok with you sitting behind a compute the entire day commenting on this site shelters you from the realities of the world.
Women are being attacked and kidnapped everyday but you’re able to think the same things are glamorous when someone shoots a music video about it wearing cute clothes and posing in cute surroundings.
If Rihanna made a video about the kidnapping of a gay man would you be saying its “edgy” or “empowering.” No you would not, but it’s easy for you to detach yourself from issues that don’t directly affect you because you’re shielded by the small worlds you’ve made for yourself with blogs, ig, facebook and twitter.
Some will say “what about Saw.” I don’t watch movies like Saw for the same reason I don’t like this video. It’s gratuitous and done for shock value unlike most thrillers which seek to tell a story.
Beyonce has a similar problem. She only made an effort to speak out against institutional racism when people called her out for keeping quiet. The donations she made were nice but are nothing compared to what she could have done to start a debate about how people SHE USES to sell albums were being mistreated.
She was able to do this because she knows that her future African-American son will NEVER have to go through the same thing because she has the means to protect him with her money and the privilege that makes she and so many celebrities detached from REAL LIFE issues that shouldn’t be glamorized or ignored.

I’m not coming for anyone specifically or throwing ANY shade because like I said, I enjoyed the video it’s her best in a very long. She was dressed in skimpy clothing, she even directed the video, and maintained a storyline relevant to the lyrics, that’s HUGE for her. But I don’t like the hypocrisy. Y’all TRASHED Beyoncé & Ciara for their video when they came out. “7/11 was a trashy iphone video, that had no point and was stupid” even though the song was playful and talked about her kicking it with her friends and drinking having fun. It was whimsical and light-hearted and she had fun, yet EVERYONE had a problem and tried to drag her. Then you have “I Bet” by Ciara who’s basically mimicking a minature ballerina, and it relates to the sensitivity of the song. My point is, BOTH songs follow an appropriate story line but as soon as people try to bring things up like “It’s a trigger” or “It makes them uncomfortable” all of a sudden we’re biiitches, etc and don’t have a right to have an opinion or feel a type of way. That’s one thing I’ve noticed between the Navy and the Hive that I’ve NEVER liked.

While she delivered, the video is not groundbreaking, nor far fetched from what she generally gives… I must say,I enjoyed the very first live performance of this song with the extra choreo, and would prefer that over this official video. The cinematic quality is awesome, but was kind of boring to me. I like how the story came together at the end, and can appreciate more videos now a days bringing a more cinematic-detailed quality to music.
