It’s been fifteen years since singer/actress/poetess Jill Scott took her first promenade up charts with ‘A Long Walk,’ ‘Getting in the Way,’ and ‘He Loves Me’ all found aboard her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Who Is Jill Scott?’

Fast forward to 2015 and the songstress is still hot as ever – a feat verified by her newly released album ‘Woman’ (her first since 2011’s chart-topping ‘The Light of the Sun’). Kicked off by singles ‘You Don’t Know’ and the R&B hit ‘Fool’s Gold’ (currently #3 on R&B charts), the project – like her releases that have preceded it – is being lauded by critics as one of the year’s “must haves.”

But, even in the height and hype of the critical acclaim, the question remains:  is the public listening?

Find out below as ‘Woman’s first week sales predictions are revealed:

First Week Sales:  43,000-48,000

(includes streaming figures)

If true, the reported sales will give Scott yet another top 10 debut once the Billboard 200 refreshes on August 1st. The numbers come as yet another high fly for R&B as crooner Tyrese, via his new album ‘Black Rose,’ moved a whopping 78k its first week giving him his first #1 on the albums’ chart nearly 20 years after his debut onto the music scene.

    • @JanetCIARA_ July 25, 2015

Right, like okay, she also has an older audience that don’t even know what a t****** is….
      Congrats Jill

    • #justsayn July 25, 2015

The fact that Ciara is more relevant than her & she sold more speaks volumes…. I thought she would do lower! Good 4 Jill!

    • Jackie July 25, 2015

      • Legend B July 25, 2015

  4. Pu$$iePopstress July 25, 2015

^^^ with not even a tenth of the promo afforded to ciara which includes radio play and tv appearances.

    people just aren’t here for ciara’s 2005 sounding sh*t

  5. @JanetCIARA_ July 25, 2015

The comparisons to Jill and Ciara are so ignorant! 2 completely different genres, 2 completely separate audiences, two completely different backgrounds.
    Save it

    • Avi July 25, 2015

Don’t even try it. It’s young people who are the biggest consumers of music. Older artists play to older audiences who have better things to spend their money on than a CD and who don’t spend all day and night on music blogs where new releases get promoted to hell and back…so Jill Scott selling more than Ciara, who plays to teens and 20 something’s who spend money on frivolous things like music is frankly embarrassing and just proves that she doesn’t have an audience. This is the end of the road for Cici. She’s been given more chances to bounce back than a basketball and has fumbled every one. Somebody get the b**** an application from Foot Locker. She had no business being in the music business.

I’m so happy r and b and slowly rising. I thought we were gonna lose it for a while. I’m so happy to also here Janet’s new song playing on young radio! R and b is still alive! I love it

Omggg!! Lol. Not even Jill Scott outselling Ciara I cannot. First Future now Jill who I didn’t even know had an album out. Clara is the ultimate flop ????

    • ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED) July 25, 2015

LOL! Now why you gotta do that sh*t?? lol. And I’m not on here that much but you jumped off that sinking Navy ship and now want to enter the Garden of Beyonce?? *side eyes this flip flopping ho*

  8. Lake Erie July 25, 2015

Ignorant. WHY compare the two ladies? Point? Purpose? Gains? TF?

  9. Mark111 /.\ July 25, 2015

Jill has a core audience. The youth just isn’t into R&B. Much R&B is getting better sound wise.
    .
I love the Jackie album, I play it everyday. I don’t understand why people won’t check it out.

    • Ann July 26, 2015

It amazes me how Ciara gets all the likes on intagram and facebook and receives millions of views on youtube but those same pple dont buy her music. Smh I just hope with my girl Kelly Rowlands next album she will do as well as Tyrese or better then she did before!

  10. Jackie July 25, 2015

Good for her she deserves it! But what’s sad is that in 2015 48,000 is considered a lot! This is no diss to Jill more so to the public. I’m sure if people were buying albums this number would’ve been higher but I digress congrat Jill! A true talent!!

  11. B2B July 25, 2015

48K… Now her label needs to find a single or two to promote to the GP to help her shift towards gold. The numbers are a witness that she has an audience that’s listening. Jill, Fantasia, and Mary J are always putting up decent numbers for soul/r&b.

  12. Legend B July 25, 2015

Congrats Jill but why are people comparing her sales to Ciara’s? They’re two different artist, plus Jill has been in the game longer than Ciara. What do you expext.

    • Avi July 25, 2015

Longer? By what, like 2 or 3 years? Jill came out in 2001, Ciara in 2004. Not a significant gap. Point blank: Ciara is just a fad from over 10 years ago that for some reason keeps coming back despite it being painfully clear that no one is into her.

      • Legend B July 26, 2015

Actually Jill Scott released her album in 2000, not 2001. Thats 4years. Jill Scott debuted win sales where high. Meaning she captured a lot of those buying fans. You can’t say just because an artist have had 2 or 3 not so successful albums, thats its over. Plenty artist have comeback from 2 or 3 flops. Google can be your best friend.

  13. EyeOfOsiris July 25, 2015

This is embarrassing to Ciara. Jill was never mainstream, always played to a narrower demo and always had more modest sales. Ciara has number one singles/platinum albums under her belt, bigger promo and is targeted to a bigger and more younger base. Now how is it that despite all that, Jill still moved more first week units?

    • Legend B July 26, 2015

Gold & platinum aren’t modest sales. Thats Jill’s discography. You can’t even compare the two. They’re not, once again, not in the same genre.

  14. Reginae stan July 25, 2015

Dam everybody out here outselling cici kiiiii

  15. another bey day something ain’t wrong July 25, 2015

Good for Jill Scott nice music

  16. CocoisChanel July 26, 2015

So proud! I love Jill Scott.

  17. John July 26, 2015

I honestly don’t get all the hatred towards Ciara on this site. I just don’t get it… Anyways congrats to Jill Scott, she never disappoints. The music will always matter more than the sales… Years from now it won’t matter how many records she sold but how good the music is.

  18. Gee July 26, 2015

Jill and Ciara are definitely two different artists in two different lanes but the fact that Ciara went Pop this time and still could not manage to sell at 30k first week that’s a problem considering she has the same fanbase as Rih, and Bey either the team around Ciara is missing the mark or her fanbase has given up on her entirely. But back to the topic at hand this is major for Jill since there was barely to any promotion. Congratulations Jilly from Philly.

    • Legend B July 26, 2015

Umm….Ciara doesn’t have the fanbase of Queen Bey, nor Rihanna. The pop girls always sell between 150k – 300k first week. Queen Bey fans are very loyal. Fans that bought Goodies, probably wasn’t interested in the albums that followed.

  19. londontru July 26, 2015

Jill from Philly is the real deal what we are waiting for is a couple new black female artists with raw talent. Eg emeli sande. Adele types. Then its a wrap. the ciara’s are disposable. we have tinashe and we have natalie la rose. so she should hang it up flat screen. we have room for new female rappers if they have a unique image and good music. Sales are to do with genuine fan base support. We can legally listen to music for free. Music will only be bought, when people are buying into the act. For whatever, the act represents. Simlar to buying Daz wash over another brand. All about brand loyalty.

  20. JS July 26, 2015

I’m still trying to figure out what Ciara got to do with this post…

laugh about Ciara’s album sells If you want…play big bank take lil bank with her. ????

  21. Trusth B Told July 26, 2015

Tyrese label for him a number one record they paid for that number cuz no body is clocking for you.. my DL brother

  22. Theman July 26, 2015

Jill has gold, platinum & multi platinum albums. She has a core fan base. Taylor, Beyonce, Sam Smith, Miguel, Chris B., Ed Sheeran, K. Lamar, J. Cole, Tyrese, all sold greatly or good enough. A variation of audiences purchase music. Jill doesn’t even have a mainstream single out. So there goes that.

  23. Blacksista July 26, 2015

That core fan base will always pull through

  24. truth(nicki the reason A.I. is cancelled and Meek playn ha!!) July 26, 2015
