From The Vault: 3LW – ‘No More’

Published: Sunday 2nd Aug 2015 by Joe

If today Fifth Harmony and Little Mix are waving the flag for girl bands, 15 years ago the scene was occupied by the likes of Destiny’s Child, TLC and then newcomers 3LW.

This week’s From The Vault selection comes courtesy of the young R&B trio and their 2000 hit ‘No More.’ 3LW – short for  ‘3 Little Women’ – consisted of Kiely Willams, Naturi Naughton and Adrienne Bailon.

Very much their breakout hit, ‘No More’ was produced by Sean ‘Sep’ Hall and penned by Nate Butler and Cameron Giles, and provided the band with their sole top 30 on the Billboard Hot (hitting#23) and UK Top 10.

For the video, the girls turned to Chris Robinson who blessed them with a fresh summery visual, which sees band members Adrienne and Naturi supporting Kiely who just found out her boyfriend has been cheating on her. Bummer!

Like every solid Pop video at the time, the clip comes armed with energetic choreography and an MTV dance-break.

******************

From our vantage point, the industry could benefit from more girl groups – of every genre. Through the years we’ve seen how impactful females coming together can bet and if the 60’s had The Supremes, the 90’s TLC and the Spice Girls and the 00’s had Destiny’s Child, we are yet to have defining female ensemble for the 10’s. Hopefully it is more a case of “not yet” than “not at all”.

Funny, one is on the real and the other is an actress. I don’t know what the light skin dancer is doing now. They reformed and had a new dark skin girl in 2006, I don’t know what happend. I guess Cheetah Girls had a bigger check but they should had known that it wasn’t going to last long.
    .
Actually the Dancer girl had a youtube show talk show thay didn’t get picked up, it was pretty much The Real years before with the white Cheetah girl.

    • AnnaliseKeatingsNewWig August 2, 2015

The new girl was being used to squash the rumours of 3LW’s management kicking Naturi out because she was dark-skinned. Adrienne and Chipmunk felt like they needed to prove they supported girls of colour, even though they did use Naturi to appeal to an ‘urban’ audience.
Oh and I watched that youtube show ‘Dinner with Friends’ or something, it was NOTHING like the Real or the View… it was a bunch of webisodes shot in a pizzeria where a group of girls give relationship advice.

    • BeyRihLiyah August 2, 2015

Take your delusional ass to sleep destinys child ran the 2000’s tlc passed the torch down to destinys child and destinys child took it and made history

      • Christian August 2, 2015

TLC made history. They’re still the best selling American Girl Group and have the best selling album by an American Girl Group ever. Only second to the Spice Girls

      • Shady81 August 2, 2015

TLC never passed the torch and they even said it on an MTV Interview with Lu Chen.

    • AnnaliseKeatingsNewWig August 2, 2015

*throws hot tea in your eyes and scolds you* Bítch don’t be blasphemous.. It’s a Sunday, keep it all the way cute 🙂

Girl bye you should spill that hot tea on your damn self and it’s not blasphemy it’s the truth they said it right after Lefteye died they weren’t replacing her and there not passing the torch so deal with it in the words of TLC “Don’t go chasing waterfalls please stick to the rivers and the lakes that your use too I know that your gonna have it your way or nothing at all but I think your moving too fast.

      • AnnaliseKeatingsNewWig August 2, 2015

@Shady81 I was addressing @TEA(TakeASip) who said Destiny’s Child were not runnin nothing (which is why my comment was about ‘Tea’ in the first place, since that’s the commenters name).
        *
I haven’t even looked at your comments, by my tea needs to be thrown in your face for getting your ish mixed up. I’ve always been both a DC and TLC fan (I even gave props to Left Eye in the comments above for creating the girl group Blaque, before I even made this comment.) PAY ATTENTION NEXT TIME x

      • Shady81 August 2, 2015

Well let me be women enough to say I Apologize for the mishap will you accept my sincere apology @Annalise but make sure there’s an @ at the person you’re addressing because it’s easy to get one or the other mixed up. #I’mjustsaying I rather be grown about this and not get hostile have yourself a good night.

      • AnnaliseKeatingsNewWig August 3, 2015

That’s absolutely fine sweetheart, I apologize too if I was a bit sharp in my response. I thought because I was responding to the first comment it would’ve appeared underneath that one (but it didn’t) + if I was responding to yours it would be in the dark shaded box, like the one this comment is in.

      • Pat August 3, 2015

@Shady and @Ann, yall good for apologizing to each other because I would have cursed both yall asses out and kept scrolling. You lil girls ain’t on my taxes!!!

      • Shady81 August 3, 2015

@Pat so your saying when two women are wrong about something you mean they shouldn’t apologize for it. Now that just sounds crazy ass hell to me! And what do you mean we little girls ain’t on your taxes huh? Mind you I’m a grown 33 almost 34 year old woman me and and Annalise were very mature with are direction and you coming at us is just real out of pocket I feel like a little maturity shown goes a long way which I can’t say that for everybody. #TheMoreYouKnow

Gurl I found that TEA i’ve been waiting on. The original interview wendy did with Naturi when she was left.

To put it short, 3LW thought they were DC. ChipmunKiely thought she was the Beyonce of the group because her sister was the manager, and therefore gave her preferential treatment (when in actuality, Kiely had the least amount of talent in the group, is a virtual nobody now). Glad that fake koala bear looking b*tch Kiely got what she deserved

      • AnnaliseKeatingsNewWig August 3, 2015

That’s okay baby! Just sharing the Tea, as usual

  10. AnnaliseKeatingsNewWig August 2, 2015

LMAO what’s a girls generation 😆 SCREAMING!!!!! keep trying to push those local hœs gurl, they are not on Beyonce’s Children’s level.

  11. IcyOne August 2, 2015

3LW sucked. This was their only listenable song…and even it’s childish and kind of stupid. But whatever, I guess if it’s infectious enough inane lyrical content becomes secondary. But back to my point: 3LW was wack. There’s a reason why they basically became one-hit wonders.

  12. Gee August 2, 2015

    Never got into this group

  13. another bty day something ain’t wrong August 2, 2015

What happened to those girls & what happen to the girl jessica that was replace naturi N?

  14. Tron August 2, 2015

Just a more streamline female version of B2K. I hated those t*** pop groups of the early 2000s that were actual teens. Backstreet, Nsync, 98 Degrees, etc., etc. may have made “t*** pop” but they themselves were late teens to early-mid 20-somethings and seemed more polished and mature presentation-wise because of it. But those groups that were actually comprised of 12 to 16 year olds like 3LW were callow as hell. Taylor made for 6th grade girls only.

  15. Mark111 August 2, 2015

TLC did not pass anything to DC4, DC4 revamp or DC3. By the time TLC came to a close in 2002 because of Left Eye’s death, DC was done and on their solo albums. DC was only here for a very short time, from 97 to 2001 and then a 3 year gap in 2004 and ended in 2005.
    .
TLC was still killing it in 99 and 00 and they didn’t have to sellout with a boot song. DC3 were pop as pop could get, I respect DC4 for being r&b.

  16. Mark111 August 2, 2015

Crazy how teens in the early 90s were cool, yet had a mature sound (Aaliyah, Brandy, Monica, Usher) while the late 90s were bubblegum pop (Britney, Fatina, Jessica Simpson, all the boy bands). Even in the 2000s, the t*** market were so garbage, Saammy, Bow Wow, Lil Romio, 3LW, B2K and the rest of the Disney pack. Crazy thay they sold tho, I think Saammy album went 3X platinum.

    • LDC August 2, 2015

What are you talking about? Brandy, Aaliyah, Monica, Usher weren’t teens in the early 90s. In the early 90s, they were still either elementary school age or just narrowly starting to enter their “tween” period. Their “t***” years was middle-to-late 90s. And Britney, Jessica and most boyband members of the late 90s were around the same age as them (or older).

    • Rancor August 3, 2015

Mark don’t know what he be talking about. With this, all he did was prove for the umpteenth time that his commentary is useless and shouldn’t be taken at all seriously. Early 90s teens would have been Tracie Spencer, Shanice, Tevin Campell, Hi-Five, etc. Usher, Aaliyah, Monica and Brandy were the class after them. LOL@him getting on here and posturing like he knew what he was saying.

  17. cocobutta August 3, 2015

When Playas Gon Play came out I think the hateration started kicking in that early.
That song showcased that Naturi had the best tone in the group.
Adrienne and Naturi was the only voices people were looking for at the time.

Adrienne lacked the backbone to side with Naturi when Kiely and sis was being haters because Kiely Bucky was founder of the group.

  18. lolhart August 3, 2015

The thing I remember most about them was Naturi’s claims management tried to pimp her out to some rapper and she wasn’t “ghetto” enough for the group.

  19. Cory Wynne August 3, 2015

    You mean Suchyn Pak?!? Lol

  20. WizKey August 3, 2015

They were a painful wannabe Destiny’s Child. I remember Nas got roped into appearing on one of their songs. He must’ve owed someone a favor.

  21. Paulo August 3, 2015

God that song is awful. and to think it got worse than this on their solo attempts… is the s** still spectacular, Kiely?
