After selling 8,000 copies this week Drake‘s ‘Late’ has crossed the 1 million units mark and becomes the first album to be released in 2015 to reach the enviable milestone.
The project’s platinum status make it the fourth Drake release to hit the mark following the releases of ‘Nothing Was the Same (1.72 million)‘, ‘Take Care (2.26 million)’ and ‘Thank Me Later (1.8 million.)’

It’s so sad that now in August of a year we will only see a million seller new album. I mean clearly if a Taylor Swift releases more near the top of a year but still it shouldn’t be THAT rare. Such a shame. Congrats to drake though. Especially since he didn’t heavily promote.

There was no official promo but drake had a few songs in rotation before the album. They were randomly released but that’s still promo since urban radio gives him major support.
The king of urban pop and ps the music industry is a pitiful place when only 1 person went platinum in 2015 and its crazy because we only have 4 months left of the year And only 1 person went platinum
Well I’m sure Taylor has sold over 1 million albums this year alone but congrats to Drake. I honestly believe streaming has put the final nail into the coffin for the music industry. I wish more artist did what Taylor did and put an end to streaming.

Just think 10 years ago, Drake would have been on a long list of artist to hit the platinum mark. Wow the industry is truly dying, hopefully we get Tha Carter V before the year is up.

I don’t care about music sales, most artists i stan for haven’t seen a gold certification in their careers, let alone a certified platinum album, music comes first.

And I was thumbed down in the Mariah post the other day for saying what everyone is posting in here. Literally only two other studio albums released this year scanned gold on pure sales (Fifty Shades of Grey is a soundtrack and doesn’t count). Plus the Descendants soundtrack (Disney Channel movie) just set the record for lowest pure sales #1 of all time this week. Congrats to Drake though, no televised promo or real singles and only a few festival appearances yet still went platinum with an album full of B-sides. His power is insane.
Only a matter of time before Spotify 100% kills sales for good in the U.S like it did in Europe. By next year it’ll be a massive accomplishment for albums to even sell 1 million worldwide.
So surreal, other than “Home” soundtrack I haven’t even purchased a single album this year, just Riri songs and Riri’s album is the only one I’ll be purchasing this year.

Congrats to the Champagne Papi. His career is so amazing right now. Don’t ask me why, but I feel his career isn’t even at its peak. I think Drake’s next era will be even huger.
With the amount of power the internet has, piracy etc it is nieve to expect anyone to have album sale numbers like in the 80s, 90s. It’s no longer the number of CDs you sell now, it’s about how many CONCERT tickets you sell.
That’s a Damn shame. As much as piracy is to blame,so are all of these streaming services. Why buy the physical or digital copy of the album when you can stream it. The sad part is 91% of the US still listens to the radio,and not even a third of that audience is buying albums anymore. When the first album to get certified Platinum is 8 months into the year,that indicates a huge problem. The music industry is on its last legs!Say what you will about today’s artist,this is a hard setting to thrive in unless you tour, if you can even tour at this point.
In 20 years the industry will be completely dead. Sucks that I an entertainment degree. Social media will be our new for of entertainment.
