New music alert!

Keen to ensure she stays ahead of Urban Contemporary’s current pack of contenders Tinashe has kicked down Pop’s door and thrown in the bomb that is ‘Party Favors.’

It arrives after her ‘Aquarius’-pulled number ‘All Hands on Deck’ failed to set the Billboard Hot 100 alight and serves as the first release to support her second studio album.

Should the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Rita & Ciara be worried about what this chart contender has to offer?

Find out below…

Yes!

Yes!

Yes!

This wasn’t what we were expecting at all but we love it. Why? Those familiar with Tinashe‘s work pre-‘2 On’ will know that her work has always steered towards more experimental territory.

So, after watching her rise with songs that were anything but we feared her second LP would see her hit chase by releasing a gang of generic Pop numbers that would do nothing for her artistry.

How wrong we were. For ‘Favors’ sees her push R&B’s envelope with a boozy “turn up” number that’s unique enough to feel completely original but infectious enough to keep Pop audiences appeased should she attempt to take the number to Top 40 radio.

Go Tinashe!

  2. Spunkypoop September 9, 2015

She’s talented but I am not convinced she will have longevity among her peers.

  3. Theman September 9, 2015

Rita Ora is not a factor in the US. Why are you trying to make this a competition? She lacks the “IT” factor. Nothing special.

  4. Centurion September 9, 2015

She’s giving me “Reverie” and “In Case We Die” teas. I love it.

  5. RihYonce September 9, 2015

    I like it !! Okay Tinashe !

  6. 4everBrandy_Ci September 9, 2015

YESSSSSSS TINASHE!!!! This record is “IT”. She knows her formula and just like the article says, she’s not chasing the pop trend in order to gain an audience. She’s experimental with her craft and it shows that she’s here to slay!!!! Tinashe is one of the creative artists that’s out with a vision! I will be coping “JoyRide”. Go Tinashe!!!!!!

    • #TeamTinashe Stan September 9, 2015

Lol that’s Ciara, but I love Bran too!

  7. iSpeakTruthNoFallacy September 9, 2015

I want her to succeed so bad, but this song isn’t it! Don’t get me wrong, I can def see myself vibing to this over a blunt, but this isn’t going to break the white controlled mainstream radio that she needs.

    • Rihyeezy September 9, 2015

This is exactly what I’m doing right now ????????

      • toohotfortv September 10, 2015

The pre-hook and chorus bang but, the verses don’t really move me. The jury’s still out on tinashe imo but, I will say this gives me a slight aaliyah vibe. That’s always a good thing, I suppose… And is that “thugger thugger” on there, or someone doing a great impression? Lord knows tgj didn’t list the feature. Who else thinks its super smart for her to just keep moving with more material. If anything, I’ll give her that. It seems she’s quite prolific.

  8. StrawberryMuffin24 September 9, 2015

I LOVE IT TINASHE CAN DO NO WRONG MUSICALLY FOR ME!

I got some Party Favors for you yasss! I can picture the video already bring the performances and album I’m ready!

  9. Slay_Hive September 9, 2015

    Its alright..kinda cute..but doesn’t scream first single…maybe second

  10. Bey-Minaj September 9, 2015

A nice video will seal the deal for this song. Its slow, s*** and vibey! I like some of her music but her fan on this site annoys the s*** outta me and makes me not wanna enjoy her music. Let’s see if that annoying ass fan pisses me off.

  11. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 9, 2015

She better come the f*** through, serve, and deliver me a banging hit! Yes! She is not playing this era. I swear she wont be ignored (like she said in her trailer) and scan platinum. Ms. Kachingwe is about to unleash urban pop fury, so get ready!

  12. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 9, 2015

She is serving me a mixture of “This Feeling” and “Bet” realness with this single. If she doesn’t crack the top 20 now, then I dont know what the hell else she can do to get there. Let her win this era, America! She already has the critical-accliam, now let her get the commercial success.

  13. Sage September 9, 2015

Uh oh Tranet is falling HARD at iTunes! That garbage FLOPBREAKABLE song is already long gone from the singles charts and was on for even less time than FLOPSLEEEP and FLOPBREAKABLE the album has fallen OUT of the top 10. AND to make matters worse AVICII, Monica and Paul McCartney all are releasing the same day. McCartney is even coming out with TWO albums that day. Bwhahahahahaha!

    • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 9, 2015

Don’t worry. Queen Janet will bounce back harder than ever. Just wait until October comes around. Remember, this woman is a legend that plays at stadiums and arenas worldwide, so there is power in her name.

  14. LB September 9, 2015

      • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 9, 2015

Tinashe could catch up quickly though. Never underestimate the underdog. She already said that she wont be ignored anymore, so expect her to be staying for a while.

      • #TeamTinashe Stan September 9, 2015

        “Pop” can mean two things.
        1) Doing Rihanna, Taylor, or EDM kind of music.
        2) Doing more hookier/catchy songs but with more uptempo (in any genre).
        LEARN HOW TO COMPREHEND!

After Over 100 Tinashe posts on here saying the same thing, your ass is STILL here. That’s what matters LOL Hehehe! XOXO

  18. JT September 9, 2015

Tinnecke? Woz dis? 2 On and Pretend are the only songs I can appreciate from her, she’s missing a lot of something

  19. #JACKIE September 9, 2015

This is boring and whack. It won’t make any noise on the charts.????

    • #TeamTinashe Stan September 9, 2015

You’re so b*** hurt. Deal with the fact that you Stan for a one hit wonder albino roach looking b****. 😉

  20. YoursTruly September 9, 2015

Perfect Fall single. Urban will eat this up and it’s catchy enough for rhythmic! Just like 2on.

  21. Rihboy September 9, 2015

Sounds like what beyonce did with one of those songs . What was it again?yonce? Or the song connected to bow down. Definitely bey inspired. This isn’t first single worthy. This is more like possible filler . It might do well urban street; however if she chooses to jump on the urban bandwagon while it’s on the way out, she has to come hard. I have mixed feelings on this. It’s definitely a smoking song or lit song. Conclusively on the fence. It might grown on me. I think for her vocal capability much more could have been done.

    • Rihboy September 9, 2015

      Grow*

  22. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 9, 2015

I just can’t stop staring at 4EverBrandy_Ci’s avi! Ciara looks so s*** in that pic….and those thighs, those strong, lean, s***, buttermilk batter brown legs, got me hypnotized. That pose is to die for! Why did she have to kill me and make me stan for her like this? Now I need to see B Rocka do some photos like this too. Its time for her to get s*** now since she’s been recording songs like “Slower” and “Put it Down”.

    • 4everBrandy_Ci September 10, 2015

Thanks for the compliment! I love Ci and Bran so damn much so yes this username is dedicated to them!!! Lol!!! I like to comment on here sometimes but you have to deal with the trolls on here. *sips tea*

      • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 10, 2015

You’re welcome! Oh, I deal with trolls in real life so it’s no biggie. I just love black women, especially talented and beautiful ones like Brandy and Ciara! Black people have the best skin tones: milk chocolate, caranel, dark chocolate, butter milk brown, pancake mix light brown. I’m making it sound like food. Sorry! Lol!

  23. Rihyeezy September 9, 2015

TINASHE & THUGGA ???????? love it!

  24. RICHIE_RICH September 9, 2015

    I love it !!!!!

  25. StrawberryMuffin24 September 9, 2015

Some people are so pressed by Tinashe she’s so humble and talented she has her own lane ans style, this sounds like nothing anyone has done or doing I love that about her she understands the music business and plus she writes her sh.it herself another bonus! I love everything she puts out she never makes a bad song now that’s what you call talent!

  26. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 9, 2015

Kii! I forgot Madonna’s tour starts today. I was too busy being consumed with the queen’s international trek.

    • What now September 9, 2015

      YAZZZZ! I CAN’T WAIT 2 C THAT B**** SLAY!

  27. StrawberryMuffin24 September 9, 2015

Tinashe never said she didn’t wanna do urban music she said that’s not the only music she wants to do she wants to do all kinds of music and that’s what JOYRIDE will bring versatility!

Tinashe is good at urban and pop music i’m sure she can mix both without losing her sound!

  28. ImStevenMichael September 9, 2015

Am I the only one who just doesn’t get her, I am reading these comments and people are acting like she is the second coming…lol She is an okay dancer, but seriously anyone can learn that simple choreography and camera tricks make that look even more amazing than it actually is. Not being a hater, but this girl won’t even garner 15 minutes of fame. Average at best.

    Vocal Ability – C-
    Song Content – C

    • A&R September 9, 2015

I understand your opinionm but you must give her credit within the creativity and work ethic department. She’s not the strongest dancer or singer; but, she’s has a cool approach to music, a very creative spirit, and demonstrates potential/drive to get to the next level. Also, she has a strong sense of self. I think that helps when it comes to smart branding/ carving out a lane. I think she can do it if she works at bettering those areas you spoke to.

  29. A&R September 9, 2015

Humm…. I can’t say I like. It has the same feel that hands on deck gave. It’s not bad but it’s not a fav. I’m indifferent. As a lead I would rather mid-up from her but I’m not opposed to slow… if it knocks tho. At first listen this song is ok. I’ll be modest and say it has grower potential but iono. I need her slow joints to hit me like Drake ones do. I need that hotline bling instant grab vibe. Her and Drake have a similar feel but her slows often get a look but don’t keep me attention. They have that…almost but won’t last sound. Keep coming Tin… I’m checking for you and believe your work ethic will push you forward.

  30. justmeeeee September 9, 2015

I do like the song and I have checked out some of her older stuff the girl is talented she kind of puts me in the frame of mind of sevyn Streeter but in a different way
I respect their originality within their craft

  31. Dante September 9, 2015

I have been listening to Tinashe since her first mixtape and I really do think she has a genuine talent. Her issue is her singles. This will never chart high on billboard. All Hands on Deck was a weak choice, Pretend was weak too. Wildfire should of been the single to cross her over and get her commercial success started. I hope the follow up single is better and more radio friendly because this is very subpar for Tinashe.

  32. Royalkev September 9, 2015

Interesting! I’m not sure this is a real attempt to find commercial success, but I think this is a great step forward for Tinashe. She’s still building as a new artist. Listening to this song made me think of Aaliyah. It feels like a cut that could have been on that ‘Aaliyah’ album. It’s not a bad thing to find similarities between the 2 (musically). I like that Tinashe’s taking risks. Her and Aaliyah both have that dark and edgy side to their music.

    • Mark111 September 9, 2015

I don’t hear it. This has a lot of vocal layers in it, the beat (I like it) is very hard and bass heavy. Aaliyah’s music was smooth, dark, crisp with an edge to it. I think people mistake her sound with just hard beats behind her soft voice, but it wasn’t that hard. It had a sweatness to it as well. Vocally Aaliyah never did too much, JUST enough. Even with R.Kelly, like she said in the song, striaght from the streets with jazz personality. The only song I know that has that Aaliyah print on it was Jordan Spark’s How Bout Now. This is more female Drake imo.

  33. What now September 9, 2015

    I like it.

  34. Riley September 9, 2015

    Forgettable

  35. @JanetCIARA_ September 9, 2015

It sounds nice, but I’m still confused on what she selling, wasn’t she just claiming to not being urban, and then working with Dr. Luke…. She confusing her audience. The song is good though, I’d play it again.

  36. Lake Erie September 9, 2015

Sounds like a smoke session/ trap song. I like it though.

  37. Rihboy September 9, 2015

Everyone keep saying new sound? What new sound? What creativity? She is falling suite to the regime. Just like that Natalie la rose. To light skin girls trying to break into urban mainstream; if that fails they will most likely be reverted to pop. Tinashes underground work is much better. I like her but something about her is robotic. I feel like she is just riding the wave versus becoming a part of the wave. Young thug is hot now; so jump on the beat? this album seems like it will be urban driven. I’m pretty sure. Especially because she has no worldwide appeal. She needs to work with some heavy hitters and birth that we found love//single ladies/bad blood type hit.

  38. Jamie September 10, 2015

This is a career ender right here….HER OWN. This shot wack as f***!!!

  39. shakira stan September 10, 2015

Crappy song ….tinashe is so basic .. .am betting this will flip flop again on the charts.

  40. StrawberryMuffin24 September 10, 2015

I have this song on repeat! I love everything Tinashe puts out she hasnt made a bad album yet can’t wait for JOYRIDE!

She just has this cool and down to earth approach just like Aaliyah had I love them both they never made bad music!

Tinashe is only 22 and already so hands on with everything she’s grown so much as an all around performer and vocally she she has even more room to grow cause she’s young!

  41. dee Western September 14, 2015

Without a doubt there is room for all of our talented brown sisters in this industry. Everybody gets a turn. Tinashe has a sound of her own, her music and performances are quite unpredictable. Its so important in the music industry to be your own person. I simply adore Her music and energy. She is doing her own thing her way. You cannot please everybody, so I would not try. I am not a fan of Nicki Minaj, but she collaborated with Keisha Cole on “I Ain’t Thru.” That song was so hot, and I still listen to it now.

There is one thing that I find a little ridiculous, and boring watching seasoned recording artists trying to stay relevant in the music industry. At some point, an artist should want to take a break, and allow the public to miss them, or stand behind an up and coming music artist.
