Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

Now, let’s rewind to 2004’s megahit ‘My Boo’ – a tag teamed effort of R&B superstars Alicia Keys and Usher.  As Keys had a monster year with her sophomore effort ‘Diary’ the year prior (setting the record for highest first week sales for a female artist of color at the time), Ush was experiencing the similar success as his 2004 release ‘Confessions’ set the mark for highest first week sales for a male artist of color at the time. With such booming respective successes, and after the positive response of their remix Keys’ own ‘If I Ain’t Got You,’  it only seemed fitting the two would reunite for a redo.  Enter the Jermaine Dupri-produced ‘My Boo.’

Reigning at #1 for an impressive 6 weeks, the tune helped bring to close Usher’s uber-successful ‘Confessions’ era (which to date stands at 20 million sold worldwide). Get into it below:

Yes this was a great year for music… Ciara Beyonce and Alicia slaying the charts no trashanna in site ki

    • maurice November 5, 2015

The days when Ciara was charting higher than a Destiny’s Child song.

2000 all the way to 2005 SLAYYYED tho.

    • @Queen Molly November 5, 2015

A chocolate black man with a diamond-certified album. Such a blessing bestowed upon him! Only R. Kelly is the other with a diamond album. Isn’t that some mess? No “Pretty Hate Machine” will ever stop them from receiving what’s theirs.

Usher may be musically irrelevant these days but chile did that Confessions era SLAY or what? The historic 1 million first-week sales, the back-to-back #1 smashes and every live performance was an event. If not for Adele bodying the industry with 21 back in 2011 and 2012, he would have had the last blockbuster album the music industry would have seen. I don’t know about Usher being the only one with a Diamond certification though. Tupac and MC Hammer both have Diamond certifications. I don’t think Robert ever received one for the R album.

Poor lose my breath… blocked by HUSHer, FLOPicia keys, & Cerror. settling for #3. Oh how times have changed…

  4. Christian November 5, 2015

She still holds the highest first week sales for a Female R&B artist. As I Am sold 742k in the United States ALONE in 2007. Almost 10 years later nobody has her beat

    • DIABETES UNBOTHERED November 5, 2015

No tu hardly, since bey was the first to go #1 based off 3 days of track week they only counted 600k but it sold 881k in 1st 7 days as oppesed to a keys first 7 days of 700k. Plust dc3 survivor sold close to that figure as well. Akeys is hasbeen now.

      • Christian November 5, 2015

It sold 800k world wide boo. Billboard clocked it a while ago. So like I said Alicia still has the crown

      • Christian November 5, 2015

Receipts. Like I SAID Alicia ????????still holds the record for the first week sales for a Female R&B singer in the US. As I Am sold 742k in the US ALONE first week. That’s not counting worldwide boo. BEYONCE (2013) SOLD 800k world wide first week and 617k was sold in the US. Thanks for playing.

      • Christian November 5, 2015

Survivor only did 663k first week. That’s still not 742k Alicia did first week. and we’re not comparing a girl group to a solo artist. Beyonce did 800k WORLDWIDE. Keyword being world wide. 617k of that 800k were sold in the US. I provided receipts and you are WRONG.

    • DIABETES UNBOTHERED November 5, 2015

But thats only if u wanna get technical if u wanna be literal akeys still holds record for 1 tracking week.

But, Suicide, Madonna herself claimed Usher before Timberlake. She’s expressed several times how she doesn’t appreciate and respect culture-appropriating vultures. After all, she wouldn’t want someone to fake being Italian for monetary gain simply because she’s Italian.

  6. DIABETES UNBOTHERED November 5, 2015

Wow & every one of those songs are good tho… i mess when r&b & crunk used to dominate. Now its fake monotone autotune watered down rap & basic electro/generic pop dominating. I swear gaga rihanna & drake nikki & t pain are the destruction of todays music. Thank god for pharrel bey jayz adele swift justin and chris brown.

  10. @JanetCIARA_ November 5, 2015

This was THAT era!!! I Live!

I also couldnt STAND that damn Usher & Alicia Duet…. It was being played everywhere and I couldnt escape it! I have a strong hate for that song now.

    But WORK GOODIES!!!!!!!

    • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans November 5, 2015

Yes! Ciara came out of the gate slaying left, right, up, down, front, and center….and not one soul could’ve done anything to stop “Princess” Harris’s dominance on the Hot 100 back then. I’m proud to say that she’s still going strong after surviving a decade now. Do you think, or would you be surprised if, “Goodies” is 4x or 5x platinum by now?

  11. Like a prayer November 5, 2015

When ciara was relevant and Beyonce actually had top 10 songs
