Oh, if…only he knew his viral video would be a gateway to dreams come true, we’re sure Patti Labelle fan-turned-sidekick James Wright (aka Chanel) would’ve made that video sooner.
But, as opportunities pour in, it’s proving Wright may have picked just the right time. Evidence of such has been further lent by the recent announcement the aspiring singer is set to team with his idol for a holiday cooking special to air on The Cooking Channel!

“It’s one of those blessed stories,” LaBelle tells PEOPLE. “For his birthday, which is Thanksgiving, we were at my home. I invited him to dinner before I even met him.”
In fact, their first meeting was on the set of the show. “It was his first time seeing me, so when he came into the kitchen, he saw me and my back was turned. He came up behind me and he had on these beautiful leopard pants and a necklace,” the singer says. “We just had a love moment. It’s just a blessing when people come into your life like this and you’re not expecting anything.”
But, if you thought the cooking special – set to air December 16th at 8:30pm EST on The Cooking Channel – was all, there’s more. The dynamic duo are also set to perform live in concert together.
“We’re going to perform in more ways than one. He can be my lead singer and I’ll be his background singer,” LaBelle says.
