Grammy winning singer/songwriter Lauryn Hill is not taking lightly to allegations of her irresponsibility as dealt by Recording Academy president Neil Portnow.

As reported earlier, Hill was set to render a surprise performance with The Weeknd at this week’s Grammy’s, but pulled out at the last minute due to being unprepared.  Once Recording Academy president Portnow caught wind of her statement, he immediately went on the defense – even calling it ‘inappropriate’ and ‘disappointing.’

If you thought he would get the last word, you thought wrong.  Get into her response to his unceremonious slamming below:

Official statement from Hill’s camp:

Mmmhmmm speak Miss Hill!!! The Elite stay fuxking with your name!!!

    • maurice February 17, 2016

      She appears really ungrateful.
For the fact that they still book her almost two decades after her debut album speaks volumes. So for her to be giving diva attitude is quite disgusting.
And then we wonder why white people find us so god damn annoying and difficult.
Lauryn, bye girl. Your debut album is a gem, but you ain’t got no right to be upstaging Weeknd and the Grammys like that. Especially after you agreed to do it.

      • Hivee February 17, 2016

Point blank she never confirmed to perform so she shouldn’t be held liable for anything. They was looking for ratings

      • Mimi February 17, 2016

@ Maurice, What the f*** does this have to do with race. “And then we wonder why white people find us so god damn annoying and difficult”..So you care about pleasing white people, and caring what they think of us. Man, find yourself…

      • HailBeysus February 17, 2016

@maurice kiii you’re giving me Molly tease ?????

      • credits February 18, 2016

@hive, why would she even show up to the rehearsals if there was even the slightest possibility that she could pull out at any time?

      • monarc087 February 18, 2016

Mrs. Hill is a MESS. She has been a MESS for years. She won them GRAMMYS and went crazy, refused to release anymore quality music. She has been plagued with one mistake after the next.

She is over-rated. She had one hot CD where they pumped her head up and now she bat-shyt crazy. Girl Bye. You were at rehearsal earlier

    • maurice February 18, 2016

credits seems to be the only intelligent one in this comment section. kiiii. why go to rehearsals if she wasn’t 100% sure. The dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. “I’m coming to rehearsal but I ain’t sure if I’m gonna perform.”
As for race, look at the Oscars darling and then get back to me.

      • Sam February 18, 2016

Nah, i understand. There was an artist on the red carpet that said she flew in that morning and wasn’t sure if she was going to make it, and had to do hair and make up in the car on the way to the venue with no sleep due to a prior concert she had to give.
Rihanna made it to rehearsals and didn’t preform.
Maybe she had time for rehearsals but had prior plans that meant that it might be hard to make the venue hence stating it was a surprise and asking for the ads to be pulled as not to disappoint.

      • maurice February 18, 2016

but she went to the rehearsals earlier in the day, then she left and didn’t come back.
        that’s the issue here.

@Maurice I am certain that your comment is the most disgusting, disturbing, and ridiculous comment I’ve read in my entire life time. An invitation is not a sentence– therefore, you are not required to show up, perform, or anything else. Furthermore, you’re making these asinine comments on pure speculation. You have no fact, no merit, no foundation to support your delusion here– just complete unadulterated ignorance. I can all but promise you that not showing up to a privileged event such as the Grammy’s is NOT the reason any other race has an issue with Black people. So for you to use that while pulling at straws to throw meager shade for like and laughs, is laughable in itself. Coming from someone who is called or named Maurice (Maurice is: Moorish; dark-skinned; swarthy) I’d expect more. I’d expect lots more. shame Lauryn for not showing up. Shame her for HER history of tardiness, but don’t you EVER use this as a reasoning behind any prejudice and racism that my people face in this world. Stay off the blogs and read a damn book. And if you don’t know where to start, I ‘d suggest Between The World And Me

And this in largely in reference to your statement: “And then we wonder why white people find us so god damn annoying and difficult.”

    Missss education baby. Natural beauty…

    ,
For some strange reason I do believe that the Grammys would still have made basic cvnts like Taylor or Britney still perform had they been the ones in this situation.
    ,
Also it would have been handled quietly otherwise. They have no time to entertain who isn’t their own.

  3. ???Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans??? February 17, 2016

Her hair is cute in that pic.

  4. fortheluvmshill February 17, 2016

@TheWeekndData posted on twitter a short video clip of Lauryn and the Weeknd immediately after he finish his performance.

  5. Umbrella eh eh eh February 17, 2016

However, Much respect goes out to The Weekend for initiating that surprise with Miss Hill. The fans would have gone crrrrrazy chile! Thinking about it now, I’m upset. It’s time Lauryn!! We are thirsty for that voiiice!!

  6. QueenDime February 17, 2016

The Grammy’s are full of s***. I believe strong heartily something behind the scenes happen that won’t be televized or spoken of for awhile. Think about it, No Rihanna, Chris, Drake, Future, J Cole, Kanye, ext. Beyonce looked like she wasn’t beat to be there, Janelle, Jasmine, and Lalah were there for no reason, Ice Cube left early as hell, Wiz and Brubi didn’t perform, No Natile Cole tribute. That’s too many hints for me to take

    • QueenDime February 17, 2016

      *Bruno Mars

      • HailBeysus February 17, 2016

Bruno Yelling “Lets go Beyonce!” Is what triggered my suspicion. Plus after Taylor won. I knew the only reason they had a roster filled with colored performers was to mask that hoees win! But damn what you just wrote is really possibly shedding light on something! Something bigger is at play here and the current top dogs in music ain’t having it!!

      • QueenDime February 17, 2016

@HailBeysus yesss ! You see when you peak s*** like that you got to really pay attention. Something is going on behind closed doors and the powers that be are really trying to get out @ all of our black entertainers right now, and will use the media to crucify them. And Beyonce is now a target including the others. Kendrick will be next too if he continues to remain true to his roots and be poitcial correct on how corrupted the system is. They love buliding us up then tearing us down –> MJ, Whitney, Marian, Janet ect.

    • MUSICHEAD February 18, 2016

I swear y’all stay not paying attention. Have you not noticed that for the past 5 years, labels are putting minimal support behind black artists? So of course they’re not gonna win Grammys. Y’all been so stuck on Beyonce vs Rihanna that you didn’t even notice that nearly every other black artist was being thrown to the wolves. When other artists don’t sell they’re a flop. But when Beyonce or Rihanna fall from grace it’s a conspiracy. GTFOH!

      • HailBeysus February 18, 2016

See that y’all ??? he working for the elite! Tryna say Miss Hill and team are covering her shít up! Child Miss Hill been the same since Miss Education dropped. She stays woke and talking about the business in her music! She is highly regarded and credited as being the mainstream artists that helped bring conscious music writing to the forefront of things! You child get no more time from me so you need tk GTFO!!! AND IF RIH AND BEY FALL FROM GRACE OF COURSE ITS A FUXKING CONSPIRACY!!!!! LMFAOOOO!!

    • Face February 19, 2016

Lalah won 2 Grammys and Jazmine was nominated, so wrong.

    • Face February 19, 2016

…but everything else I agree with.

  7. Nicki Minaj thee ONLY QB February 17, 2016

I heard she was double booked to do a kids party at McDonalds as Ronald McDonald was busy and they needed a clown…

  8. Kitty Puurrzz February 18, 2016

She’s very unprofessional… Went to 1 of her concerts & waited almost 2hrs for her to show up. & she didn’t even apologize to the crowd for being late. That’s probly what happened with this Grammy performance & her & her camp are trying to clean it up with lies.

  9. MUSICHEAD February 18, 2016

The bottom line is this…Lauryn Hill has become notorious for being SEVERAL hours late for her own damn shows. What made them think she’d show up for this? Lauryn ain’t been right mentally since 1999. As much as we loved the ONE album she put out,the Lauryn Hill we knew and loved is long gone and ain’t ever coming back!

  10. King Mark111 /.\ February 18, 2016

I miss her pretty face. I always thought she was one of the most beautiful person ever. Man I wish she would just snap out of it and give us music.

  11. Janet February 18, 2016

I think she should just be thankful anyone is booking her for anything nowadays. I thought she only sang at birthday parties and church.

  12. What now February 18, 2016

I bet she didn’t even realize that this statement damn near confirmed what they said about her and the performance.

  13. Casual-T February 18, 2016

Who doesn’t commit to a Grammy performance?

  14. quasar February 21, 2016

I am an event organizer and have worked on live shows and artists.

There’s NO SUCH THING as a surprise performance for an event and show organizers point of view. It doesn’t matter whether it’s billed as a scheduled performance or a surprise – it’s all rehearsed and planned, especially since it’s broadcasted.

Any performance, whether it’s a 30 sec cameo, one song, or a full set, is technically done over many times over to check for audio, lighting, staging, sequence, video content, camera angles, and how the artist generally feels about what they’re doing.

For any artist to say that there’s too many logistical issued to prevent the performance from happening on the day of, without notifying the event staff as what was reportedly mentioned, is utter bullcrap and completely unprofessional.

In my opinion, this is an incredibly stupid and entirely degrading comment from an artists’ camp to a show’s team and the people who work to make it happen. Nevermind what you actually think of The Grammy’s as an event or its supposed importance in the music industry, there are hundreds of people who must have needlessly stressed out, felt anger, or threatened with losing their jobs on the spot because of this incident.

Think about the flipside of this behaviour: Dave Grohl played shows with a fractured leg. Kylie Minogue performed an entire tour while stricken with breast cancer. Madonna performed in South America under torrential rain and in Moscow under death threats. “Logistical problems” is code for the artist and his/her management making bad decisions.

I hope all tour promoters, event pros, and show organizers never book Ms. Hill for this completely disgusting behaviour.
