Kanye West Sued By Fan Over TIDAL

TIDAL is once again in the spotlight for a less than favourable reason.

This time it’s Kanye West and his album, ‘The Life Of Pablo,’ at the centre of the drama.

Full story below…

Justin Baker-Rhett, a disgruntled Kanye fan, has filed a class action lawsuit at the US. District Court in San Francisco against both the rapper and the streaming platform he is a co-owner of.

Baker-Rhett asserts that the Hip-Hop star “fraudulently promised fans that his ‘Pablo’ album would solely be available on TIDAL.” And though initially released as an exclusive on the site in January, it has since been serviced for free on Apple Music and Spotify. A move which facilitated its recent #1 on the Billboard 200 three months later – based primarily on streams.

On the promise of exclusivity, millions flooded TIDAL upon ‘Pablo’s release and signed up for free trials, which eventually matured into monthly subscriptions of $9.99.

Cost, however, aren’t at the centre of the suit. Instead, it’s the clam that the “trick” gifted the struggling streaming platform a trove of user information – such as addresses, credit card information, music preferences and more. As a result, Baker-Rhett is asking a judge to order TIDAL to delete information collected on users who signed up for West’s album.

No word yet on how much money is being sort as compensatory damages.

What is certain is that is that it’s yet more legal chaos for the platform; earlier this month it was revealed that principal owner Jay Z is suing TIDAL’s previous owners for misrepresenting the state of the company prior to its purchase.

This is silly! Kanye’s tweet was misleading, but it’s business and if there’s more to gain from allowing your album to be streamed elsewhere than I think that’s perfectly understandable. I do think something should be done about the personal information leaking. Joining Tidal has become a very real option for me (with B6 approaching), but hearing about these issues is a bit of a turn off.

Lawsuit will be tossed with the quickness. Kanye did not enter into a contract with this guy. Frivolous lawsuit.

Why sue Kanye! Suing him is like suing all the artist on tidal? Ain’t from what Jay’s made the company out to be? Just thieving. Been thieving from the beginning but I mean look who he married. Rihanna need to bail and do apple or something because tidal ain’t doing nothing but milking the artist on it.

    • rosy3 April 19, 2016

I think so too Jayz is a poor business man he botch rih album in the worst way I always heard Jay is a pos look what he did to his friend damian dash karma coming for his ass just a thief I rather give Spotify and apple my money Jay thinks he has power and using these celebrities would get people to sign up but because u have millions of followers do not mean people will buy your product Rihanna has her own power she do not need Jay ass no more tidal sucks period people are getting tired of tweedle dee and tweedle dumb drake was smart to go with apple Jay and bey tried courting Taylor Swift too

  11. toeknee April 19, 2016

Imbecile @rihboy if tidal is stealing from artist on it then what is spotify & other streaming services doing? Tidal is only just more expensive for users although with all these free trials they keep giving(& most smart pple canceling d subscription before trial expires) I don’t know how they gain SH1t. Plus it had a messy platform from the onset.

Seems like Drake is happy with his Apple deal.btidal was a mess from the beginning. To many incidents and s***. Gimmicks to get people to sign up. Unfortunately my fave was apart of that. I wish she had just dropped her album to all outlets from the start. Her outcome would have been better do to the demand it had when it was downloaded via tidal. It’s also just so funny to me that right before Beyoncé is dropping there is so much calamity with tidal. I’m sure she will drop to tidal but I don’t think she will wait a week before dropping to other outlets. She is a good album seller so it would be absurd to only relinquish the album to tidal exclusively. If she does do that it will be interesting to see what it will do for tidal. Bi H Rihanna and Kanye pulled in plenty of subscribers. But like you said once it’s available elsewhere or not subscribers will probably cancel before being charged. I’ve had my tidal subscription since Rihanna dropped bbhmm. It’s actually not a bad streaming service. They just need to have one solid reasonable price for monthly music at high def. these people are already rich and this service was suppose to offer a superb experience without breaking people’s pockets and tricking them into subscribing.

exclusivity is what tidal offers and its what the dont deliver. Sue their ass. Riri girl put a ring on drake and join him on apple. Hell spotify would could survive on rihanna business alone, make a deal with them.

So many people are getting their trolls accounts exposed lmao.

NINE dollars a month vs THIRTEEN dollars for an album once-off. Streaming will never kill the album, it will always be superior business-wise and musically. No matter what, there’s no way Kanye was happy with the results of him making his album a tidal exclusive and something tells me neither was Rihanna. I hope Madonna pulls her catalogue from this thing and you can forget about “a million albums in one week” if B6 is a TIDAL exclusive. It would have to be streamed over a billion times in full.

    • well well April 19, 2016

9 vs. 13? a lil off your math. count a year. it’s 120 vs. 13. that’s for dummies that buy just one thing. you gotta use tidal and buy atlest 9 albums a year or listen to whole library and the math turns to your favor. value decreasing with everything you add to your sub. how f*cking dumb is that people being trapped in that. ‘d not happen to me. 😀

    • Rihboy April 19, 2016

When I went to her anti tour in d.c. She actually said she didn’t care anymore if they illegally downloaded it, streamed, or downloaded it from tidal. She just wanted to share the music. Which I whole heartedly believed because she already got paid for it. However somewhere deep in her I know she was pissed with the delivery of this album. It certainly couldn’t have been her idea to drop the album on tidal let alone leak it. It was obviously a deal with Samsung/tidal all in one. So instead of catering to just Samsung. She ended up catering to a second party as well. Complete usage. Rumor has it she had a few studio sessions not too long ago. Hopefully r9 is already in the making with a better roll out plan. This era was sabotaged. On the bright side the album actually has been streamed massively, and the tour is doing well. Alongside stance, Manolo, puma, valerian, and her new beauty products to debut soon, she good.

      • Thando April 19, 2016

Yes Rihanna really didn’t want this Tidal exclusive nonsense. And to the person above you, do you think you’re smarter because you’re swearing? The point is buying an album once off is better than paying a monthly subscription.
