The incomparable Celine Dion is set to make a triumphant comeback to the world stage.
Four months after the passing of her beloved husband-manager Rene Angelil, the vocal powerhouse has been unveiled at the recipient of the Icon Award at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
Confirmation came courtesy of the event’s organisers, who also announced that the songstress will be taking to the stage to perform.

The show’s executive producer Mark Bracco said in a statement:
“Celine Dion has a huge repertoire of monster hits and she personally chose to perform ‘The Show Must Go On’ as her ICON performance on the Billboard Music Awards. I think at this moment in her life, the song has many meanings and it’s an amazing choice.”
Wholly deserving, Dion has sold almost 250 million albums during her over 30-year career. She has earned five Grammy Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, two Academy Awards, six American Music Awards, 20 Canadian Juno Awards and 40 Felix Awards. She’s also placed 17 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, including 12 top 10 LPs.
[We’d be lying if we said we weren’t part of the many salivating for that one show-stopping performance of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ on such a grand stage to salute her husband and the song that legitimised her legend status. Still, with a talent as stellar as hers, we’re sure her performance will resonate nonetheless.]
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards air live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 22nd at 8pm ET on ABC. Ciara and Ludacris serve as hosts.
