Report: Drake To Block Ariana Grande From Nabbing Her Third #1 Album

Published: Wednesday 25th May 2016 by Rashad

Drake‘s latest album’s, ‘Views,’ will still be enjoying the view from the top of the Billboard 200 next week, according to reports.

Fending off stiff competition from the likes of country star Blake Shelton, the Canadian rapper’s biggest threat of dethronement came from ‘Dangerous Woman’ – the highly anticipated third album from Ariana Grande.

Featuring the top 10 hit ‘Dangerous Woman’ (the song) and guest appearances from Drake’s own ‘Young Money’ labelmates Lil’ Wayne and Nicki Minaj, it appears (as of time reporting) not even their help will be enough to help Grande maintain her #1 streak (as her first two projects – ‘My Everything’ and ‘Yours Truly’ both debuted atop the album charts).

Get the details below:

Earlier this week, we reported Grande’s newest release was set to shift 150,000 – 180,000 SPS by the official end of its premiere tallying week.  Despite appearances on the Billboard Music Awards and the highly viewed ‘The Voice’ finale, the singer’s figures remain in that range.

If nothing changes between now and the end of the week, she’ll surrender her #1s streak thanks to sustained streaming figures by Drizzy.

Predictions:

Drake (YMCMB/Republic) 170-180k SPS, 50-60k albums
Ariana Grande (Republic) 160-170k SPS, 130-140k albums
Blake Shelton (Warner Music Nashville) 150-160k SPS, 140-150k albums

Tidbit:  Races like this are sure to reignite the streaming debate.  While the argument will most likely fall on deaf ears for the decision makers within the industry, it’s always interesting to see the person with the highest paid purchases of his album will most likely chart lowest on the chart, meanwhile, the person with the lowest actual sales will most likely chart highest on next week’s refreshed showing.

Drake did not come to play wit u h***!

Please have several, Drake numbers are decent, but y’all are overhyping them ?

        Where is Limade?

  2. No favs, just here for the music May 25, 2016

This is messed up. They need to have a separate charting for the SPS included like seriously. Anyway it’s a close race so it’s possible she can still claim the #1 spot.

    • HALF AMAZIN May 26, 2016

Why? 1500 streams= 1 full album sale. It reflects demand but just in a different consumption format. Physical albums and even M** format will be dinosaurs pretty soon so everyone should just embrace that streaming is the new format. I forgot though… On this site full of rabid, irrational stans, streaming is only positive when it benefits the ones you worship

      • Danny Bey May 26, 2016

I will probably never count streaming. That’s just how I’m gonna be. Even considering Lemonades numbers, I only acknowledge that she’s sold 926k, and not the 1.1mil SPS. Hell, even Wikipedia don’t acknowledge SPS when you look at different artists discographies lol

      • No favs, just here for the music May 26, 2016

@HALF you seriously need to calm down. You sound bitter from constantly being in stan wars on this website. Just so you know I don’t stan for any artist so you can keep that mess out out of my replies and go pick a petty fight elsewhere. As for streams, unless people are paying their hard-earned money out of their pockets it’ll NEVER count for me. If you want to be brainwashed into this BS of how a free service = a ‘purchase’ then go right ahead but it’s not for me. People are still buying music contrary to what you may believe. As long as there is demand for it, people WILL buy. Drake Beyonce Adele and Taylor Swift says HI.

      • HALF AMAZIN May 26, 2016

        @NoFavs
I think YOU need to calm down. Your baseless assumption is cute but I don’t get in Stan wars on this blog nor do I claim “ownership” of my reply section as you have. Streaming is here to stay and your opinion about it matters not. Good day!

      • HALF AMAZIN May 26, 2016

And my comment about rabid, irrational fans wasn’t directed towards you but I guess hit dogs will holler

      • No favs, just here for the music May 27, 2016

Literally nothing but ignorance and backpedaling from start to finish. I honestly wonder why I even bother sometimes

      • No favs, just here for the music May 27, 2016

I also love how my ‘opinion matters not’ but your ass still found it’s way to my reply section. Truth is, if enough people complain about it or BB themselves see they f***** up; things are ALWAYS prone to change. Streams are a f****** joke. Like the person said above wiki doesn’t even acknowledge it smh (and I didn’t even know that until now). Something that’s free will never = $$$$$

  5. Nobo May 25, 2016

I have to hear both Ariana and Blake’s albums. I’ve enjoyed all of Drakes albums, “Views” is my least favorite. Everything sounds like a rehash of “if you’re reading this now…” And “thank me later”.

On topic and off: Beyonce played herself by releasing an album 3 days before her tour. She assassinated herself by not promoting and making the album exclusive to Tidal. Dumb broad, as much as I love her, this new team’s strategies are no better than the former team. Who would encourage no promotion? She’s paying management, PR, and agents for tour management only. Her brand is crumbling, in my opinion, slowly. Beyonce used to dominate the charts, even during 4, for weeks. She’s known to score at least a top 5. Now her songs rise to a respectable top 10 and disappear.

I’m Bey-Hive but she’s slowly pissing me off.

    • toeknee May 26, 2016

Looool I understand where you, I was so mad about bey as well & even sent bey_legion a number of very angry tweets lol.
But we have to realize everything bey does is also strategically planed.
I think she is more focused on tour(where the money is), plus in self-titled she tired of her label/radio hence less promo (since much money from sales go to Columbia)

  6. Authentic May 25, 2016

Bored of this chart talk tbh.. F** it they all getting they coins & I have a few new songs with every release so let’s go!!!

It’ll be close , streaming =demand get over it.

Not Drake blocking everybody for the past three weeks kiii

    • Yes girl May 26, 2016

Weren’t you shading Ciara in another post stating “She wouldn’t have gotten the platinum singles plague for I Bet if it wasn’t for streaming, because it damn sure wasn’t for sales.”

  9. Danzou May 25, 2016

Touring is where it’s at. To be honest selling albums was only ever for the label anyway. Platinum plaque money doesn’t go to artists it goes to execs and producers and what not. Touring goes directly back into the pockets of the artists unless they signed a 360.

  10. Grande The Way May 25, 2016

Drakes been killing it on streaming. If anyone was to break Ariana’s record, at least it was someone worthy. 2/3 to the top spot ain’t bad. Especially when Dangerous Woman is fueled by mainly sales.

    • Abel Minaj (Arianator Barb) May 25, 2016

79 metacritic score and rising, that’s what matters

      • Grande The Way May 26, 2016

        Precisely

      • SMH May 26, 2016

Delusional thinking. At the end of the day, sales will always matter more than metacritic. Nobody remembers an album’s metacritic score in 10 years, they only remember how much the album sold.

    • wrosy3 May 26, 2016

Drake has 1 billion stream so far and because a singer has a good voice you need fans to go get your product some of the artist are narcissistic thinking that I’m baby Whitney and Mariah that their ass entitle to be number one and win grammies don’t work like who are you to say someone Is worthy these artist who their career to the fans and some of them Dont even give credit times really changing unless you are adele and Taylor these little white girl must be wondering wtf going on

  13. toeknee May 26, 2016

This charts SH1t is getting boring/annoying. Streaming may be the new way music is consumed(esp. teens) but actual sales should always remain the major determinant for BB200, as just one album ($18) is much more than 1 month streaming($5-$10).
Anyway this ariana’s album is fvckking dope, I’ve always loved her tho but I can’t skip anysong from it. Best ones for now are: SOMETIMES, MOONLIGHT & LEAVE ME LONELY.

    • HALF AMAZIN May 26, 2016

Here’s where you’re wrong, one month subscription is not equivalent to one album sale. The album has to be streamed 1500 times to equal one whole album sale. That, my dear, is a reflection of DEMAND. Whether anyone likes it or not, it’s they way the majority of music is consumed now and all the other platforms will become extinct.

  14. Royalkev May 26, 2016

I can’t help but feel Ariana or Blake Shelton will be robbed if they don’t come out on top! Billboard really need to come up with a separate charting system for sales and album streams. This one has way too many flaws to name! This new calculating method can’t lump the achievements of today’s artists with those that have achieved from tradition sales for decades! It’s totally different and it should be seen as such.

  15. Rihboy May 26, 2016

Views is a solid album with multiple potential hits! I knew one dance would be a definite. But he has other radio friendly songs that I see doing well pending future promotion. I honestly feel like he won’t really push other singles tho. I’m happy for him. I’m ready for new Rihanna music, brandy music, and Tamar. Only people i usually look forward too. Hopefully I get atleast one out of the three before the years out.

  16. Rihboy May 26, 2016

Her opening numbers may be great, but I see her falling tremendously low the next week. Which then she will be depending on streaming. Will your theories about streaming being unfair change then. I don’t see why you guys are crying. I think it’s fair to have both. It’s not about the coin received from the music it’s about the daily consumption to be honest. Which is where streaming comes into play. If your music is being constantly rotated you deserve to reap whatever chart placement comes with that in addition to sales. It’s actually really easy to understand. Furthermore as for the quality of music; this is not Ariana’s best work at all. She’s dwelling idolly in her pop haven and not venturing out of the safe zone. It’s incredibly generic and honestly borrowed(thanks Mimi) . The only songs I like are moonlight( I hardly understand what’s being said in the song but it’s catchy and reminds me of something they would sing in grease?). Let me love you( a definite bop that could have or can still be a top 5 pending future promotion. Everything else is like jelly in a Danish. Filler material. She has such a beautiful voice, but she hasn’t really shown any maturity or versatility in her style. She will and has already started to blend and fade away with started who have such a great talent but don’t have the IT power. That ponytail needs to go and the I’m still 16 look as well. Edge it up. Play with different sounds. Diversify the genres. Mix genres. Get cultured without appropriating. I still have a little time for her, but it’s beginning to get boring honestly.

  17. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!!! May 26, 2016

    WW sales: @taylorswift13, “1989” 20,000 (9,500,000 total

    #realsales

  18. SMH May 26, 2016

Let’s be real here. People are only mad at Drake because he ended beyonce’s album era prematurely. Nobody would be complaining about his numbers if she hadn’t released her album at the same time and got overshadowed by him.

Now watch how many of her fans start denying this while insulting Drake…

    • Cinnamon Girl May 26, 2016

Didn’t I tell you folks that Beyawnce has been blacklisted? Her Orange Juice special couldn’t even get 1 million views even though it was free, her Ivy Flop line still hasn’t sold out. Noone even talks about that s### anymore. Her album couldn’t even go gold in pure sales the first week, Drake outsold her in 1 night, she still couldn’t get a #1 hit song, and her tour still has not sold out. Beyawnce’s star is fading real bad

    • Yes girl May 26, 2016

Girl you’re a known Beyonce hater, so your opinion is invalid. Go listen to one of Christina’s flop albums.

      • Cinnamon Girl May 26, 2016

        Don’t get mad because Beyawnce’s a flop

      • Yes girl May 26, 2016

LOL “Flop” You wish, and coming from a Ciara stan lol. Wait a minute, aren’t you one of those mentally ill individuals on this site. That being the case, (And I know how you look, so keep it cute) this discussion ends here, I don’t converse with the mentally ill. Good day.

      • Cinnamon Girl May 26, 2016

Of course you don’t want to talk to me BECAUSE YOU’VE BERN CLOCKED!!! And Beyawnce still flopped horribly this era

      • BEYICON May 26, 2016

@Cinnafàg The Formation World Tour is most definitely sold out. It has grossed 61 million in a month. How iis the Antibiotics tour doing? What about the Jack-in-a-box cafeteria tour?

      • Cinnamon Girl May 26, 2016

The Flopmation tour is not sold out.She added more dates because she’s money hungry. That junk is still not sold out

    • Yes girl May 26, 2016

Fyi, this post is about Ariana, not Beyonce, so stay on topic.

      • Cinnamon Girl May 26, 2016

Just like you fleahives bring up Beyawnce on other artists’ stories? Stop being hypocritical, fleahives

  19. nico May 26, 2016

Drake was at beyonce concert last night Toronto so there is no beef she post a photo of him in her website

    • Cinnamon Girl May 26, 2016

He’s still doing better than her

  20. Danny Bey May 26, 2016

    What kind of fuckery?

Especially when you look at iTunes and Blake Shelton is #1, Beyoncé holds at #2, and Drake is at #3 with Ariana at #4. I hate this streamin sh**

  21. What Now May 26, 2016

Dang I know Ariana is an angry hypocritical mood… streaming is what caused her album to be certified last time and is now causing her the number one spot. SMDH.

    • What Now May 26, 2016
